Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I'm guessing this figure's gonna be a male character cause Sophitia has one in the CE, maybe a mini Lizard? xD

Would appreciate it if you could ask the developers if the character select screen is finalized. There are a some beloved characters that surely won't be returning at this rate and many of us are worried for characters we would love to see. Personally, I would love to see Hwang return after a long absence but I doubt he would be featured in Soulcalibur VI if the current character select screen is an indicator of how many characters we have.

Also, a clarification of what Okubo meant by saying that "this is the most packed Soulcalibur of them all". This statement implies that the game will have more content than Soulcalibur III.

This would be a great question. At least put us out of our misery as to whether we should expect more than the 23 slots we see or not so we don't have to deal with all the fans getting peeved again when speculations start happening on who got cut again.

I hope your plan is to sprint into Namco offices while naked and constantly screaming "TEAM BATTLE MODE! TEAM BATTLE MODE!" until you get thrown out. Hopefully that will make them understand we want the mode to return.

Every game I've hoped for Team Battle to come back. Every game I am disappointed. Team battle is to this day next to chronicles my favourite mode in SC. The only thing missing from SCIII was team battle, and I'm pretty salty that they didn't make team battle an online mode for SCII HD. Being able to go 1v8, 4v8 and 8v8 was awesome and it really kept some of my more casual friends interested in the game due to the diversity they had.

I would give ANYTHING for a new spin on Chronicles of the Sword
So would I. Chronicles of the Swords is, in my opinion, the best alternate game mode in a fighting game: it has a pretty good alternate timeline story, it has strategy elements (the whole taking and defending towers thing), a fair level system, it puts the player's own character as the protagonist and it has some really nice characters that could be expanded upon. It surprises me that not a single fighting game ever tried to copy it, nor did the Soul Calibur series itself ever bring it back.

Lizardman with Patroklos's stance would be incredible.

That said, if he goes back to S&S, but gets a ton of Pats moves and his own lizard stuff, I'd probably be happy. Pats moveset was one of my favorites in V, and though the concept was cool, I wasn't crazy about how Aeon actually played with two axes. He lacked a certain agility I always felt he'd had in the previous games. His SCIII/SCIV axe and shield was always my favorite.

Fun fact. Chronicles of the Sword also offers natural break points for the player and those strategy elements also aren't too complex which lets the player have some mid breaks similar to how FPS games have moments where the player just walks. These elements end up letting the player recover and process information and they don't get as fatigued from the constant battles. Add in the constant variety that was in the fights in the way the stage effect works similar to weapon master and honestly a well written story to go along with it and you've got a pretty awesome mode that really should have been used more often. It also let you actually get familiar with character weapon styles along with the variety of having them which is something most games don't let you do. I'm looking at you MK9. Add in the "team battle" format which was still freaking great, and the main OP roster characters if you were feeling like hating your life, along with the custom weapons, enemies actually feeling unique instead of random enemy ABC (Weapon master even suffered from this) and the respawning mechanic so you never really lost unless you lost your main base and you can let the player invest in each individual level without the rage inducing problems that you would usually get from it.

Even great was the fact that you could create multiple custom characters too, although I never really knew I could switch the unit type to anything other than infantry until near the end of the game xD.

TL:DR: Chronicles honestly had a better presented story then SC in general in my opinion. Main reason probably that it doesn't happen is because they probably had less of a budget, people left and got transferred, and BAMCO decided hey, we decided to make SCIII a PS2 Exclusive, that was totally not one of the reasons why it didn't do as well as we were hoping. Chronicles is honestly something SC is the only fighting game series that can pull it off simply because of Character Creator and the focus it has on weapons and styles. Just look at DBFZ if you want to see a poorly executed Chronicles knock off.

Well it has been like five years. Teenage youtubers are doing better editing than whatever that was.

I feel like Talim might be the last one or maybe get revealed at some big event. Why would they just reveal the top character on just any Thursday.

Tira can be a safe bet for this Thursday too. Plus, I imagine a Tira figurine well :) but hope we didn't get false hope and we get figurine of an already existing char - - '

Looks like players are already getting used to blocking ID A on reaction. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't hit grounded.
That would be me :P Yeah Groh ID A its a early release low but I swear I seen it LH after what must of been a aGI in a video awhile back, so that's when you would use it.

That means there's two events we'll likely to get big news from in August (EVO at the start, Gamescom towards the end) with only 3 weeks in between. I imagine EVO will be a multiple character reveal so perhaps at Gamescom we'll get details on the other big single player mode.

Also that makes me think we're unlikely to get much this month, probably just 2 or even only 1 character reveal.

so if there's 10 characters left (unless there's an unlockable boss in that middle slot) we could maybe see 2 this month, 4 at EVO in early August, and the last 4 at Tokyo Game Show in mid-late September (or they could focus on CAS at TGS and the last 4 will just be on alternate thursdays through Septemper and October until release).
