Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I can't help but think it would be some great meta commentary if Groh's dad ends up being Patroklos from the future. What better final boss than the enemy of the soul series himself.

So people think Asta, lizardman and cervy are confirmed due to story art.

So that pic... he has a sword and shield. Do you think they would really give him that weapon again after he has the axe and shield style or his SCV dual axe style?

If we get sophitia and then lizardman with sword/shield I would guess Cassandra isn't part of the base roster

I'm still holding on to the idea that Lizardman will ape Patroklos's style with lizardisms added in, which still plays significantly different from both Sophitia and Cassandra, so there would be room for all three. Cassandra is on the lowest rung of my personal predictions, so she might not make it in, but if she did, we would have three distinct sword & shield styles. It's not like that's never happened before.

I really dont think Hilde is going to make the roster as a legit character with story regardless of popularity. She would be too young i think. Maybe CAS only.
My goodness, when will people stop using this stupid "too young" excuse? I thought Talim would already be enough of an indication, but even before her reveal, they already said we would have focus on SC1, with events from both SE and SC2 included. SC2 happens in the same year as SC3 and SC4, so there is absolutely no reason for age to be an excuse for any non-guest on the series introduced before SC5.

I wouldn't hold onto that idea. Patroklos is elegant and acrobatic, it would be bad to have his moves on a feral character, like Aeon, assuming he is even in SC6.

It's a combination of relevancy in this time period and that Seong Mi-na has been disrespected time and time again, and this is her second chance. Setsuka and Hilde are already known and popular, while Seong Mi-na has always fallen by the wayside, due to so many people starting the series with SoulCalibur II, where she was already pretty much irrelevant, and Kilik was in the spotlight. She got differentiation of moveset starting in SoulCalibur III and even moreso in SoulCalibur IV, but when she remained not important to the story, she got hardly any attention.

She's just as different from Kilik as Cassandra is to Sophitia, but Cassandra had the spotlight in SoulCalibur II, where Sophitia had to be unlocked, but Sophitia remained important to the story in following games, she's so central to the plot that you can't help but have her shoved in your face, so despite Cassandra's popularity, Sophitia also remains popular by exposure.

Setsuka and Hilde can and most likely will be available as DLC. Would it be better if they were on the main roster? Definitely, I'm not disputing that. But we should establish the core first, and then add the others later. Seong Mi-na is more core than Setsuka and Hilde, considering the timeline of events that we're dealing with in this game. If SoulCalibur VII follows suit and covers SoulCalibur II, III, and IV, then Setsuka and Hilde likely would be main roster inclusions, essentially their DLC character forms would be put into full swing for the next round, and then their stories would develop as main roster characters, since it would be more fitting in the timeline. Story is important again, and they're not leaving it unfinished like SoulCalibur V.

Yeah, but since they teased Astaroth, Cervantes, and Lizardman back at E3, I feel like they're going to drop those sooner rather than later. EVO seems right to do it, along with Tira to round out the "evil" folks. It's a lofty expectation, but isn't impossible. It could also just be Tira. But it would then remain a mystery why they would tease those three characters so heavily and then not officially reveal them for more than a month, maybe two if the trend continues. Like Voldo, we basically know that they're going to be in anyway, so we're not going to get a big reaction, so saving them for later, I really don't see much point. Whereas Tira would generate a lot of hype, as would Raphael, Cassandra, or Seong Mi-na.
Most definitely. My thing is the same if they hinted Cervy/lizy/asta why not out them? Theyve got something up there sleeve evo is definitely a great place to drop a major bomb especially its an all fighting game event. And there being very tight lipped about game modes and creation n such. i think there gonna deliver there just keeping us so intrigued because they know they have to deliver something amazing if not the franchise could be a done deal. i have to much faith in this one,There advertising is un orthodox but there in a derection thAt so far non of us here complaint about. Not counting talim retoric hair and dislocated shoulders bs. Lol

I wouldn’t really describe Pat’s style as elegant, more so vicious and aggressive.

SC2 happens in the same year as SC3 and 4? How could that possibly make a lick of sense? Is there any concrete source that confirms this?

A pre-teen girl jumping around carying tonfa blades is one thing but Hilde's design is a fully armored knight princess awkwardly one-handing a long spear and a short sword in the other. I'm sorry no, that isnt something a teenage girl is doing.

It's simple: the writers didn't want to age the girls in SC2 so they kept the sequels in the same year

Yeah, you know what. I seriously never realized this was the case. I just checked and yup, it is all the same year. Well, that means Algol and Amy are just as much on the table but i generally dont see a lot of people bring them up.

Right, the problem with that, though, is that if you look at the way the timeline is presented, the 1590 section is but a small sliver of the very end, compared to the years that came before it being much wider, and thus having a lot of events portrayed from that time.

Most likely, the only events that will happen in 1590 for SoulCalibur VI will be establishing the roles each character will play in SoulCalibur VII, where they will dive into SoulCalibur II-IV, and all the events that take place there and the characters involved will be active/introduced. The characters that don't have roles to play prior to SoulCalibur II aren't likely to be included, which is why no one really talks about little orphan Amy or Hero King who lived on a tower for millenia and no one noticed Algol.

Talim is included, but the likelihood is high that she's that tiny stretch at the end of the timeline in 1590, and all we'll really see is the start of her journey. She was only truly included because of the fact that she won the popularity poll, being completely honest, but she can still squeak in at the very end of the timeline. Zasalamel is included because he's immortal, and we'll see what he did before discovering the swords and failing to break his immortality.

Tira can be included because she has a known history in being a Bird of Passage before discovering Soul Edge and becoming enslaved to her new lot in life, so we could get her origins story and learn more about her. Raphael has his known story of having to escape his family home to save his own skin, and Amy helped him escape from the soldiers that were pursuing him, and offered him shelter within the orphanage she stayed in, and he adopted her, so we can see that story as well.

Setsuka... well her role is already fulfilled by Taki during this stretch of time, so she's not needed. Hilde didn't get involved until Algol entered the scene, which wouldn't be until the next game either. Cassandra is iffy, because she didn't get involved until the second time Nightmare rose to power, which wouldn't be until the next game either, but we might see things from her perspective while Sophitia was away. Same for Yun-seong, as he was just doing the Hwang thing in SoulCalibur II, but became Talim's traveling partner in SoulCalibur III, which wouldn't be happening yet, so it would make more sense for Hwang to be in SoulCalibur VI then Yun-seong could be added in SoulCalibur VII.

Let's just say that 1590 was a very long and involved year.

Hilde's plot relevance :sc4hil1:
1583
  • King George of Wolkrone kingdom becomes a malfested and is driven mad. After her father is isolated in a castle tower, 11-year-old Hildergard von Krone is ushered onto the throne.
1590
  • Raphael defeats Nightmare (SC II ends)
  • Zasalamel's plot (SC III begins)
  • Wolfkrone, a kingdom near Osthreinsburg, brings to bear the full might of their army in order to lay siege to the stronghold of evil. Nightmare uses Soul Edge's power to open gateway to Astral Chaos, which affects Osthreinsburg and its surrounding area. Siegfried, armed with Soul Calibur, manages to destroy Soul Edge. Wolfkrone's siege ends in victory.

I believe most of the characters that haven't been in the story yet could easily make an earlier appearance and I believe that even if they are not playable characters we may still see them in game.
