I think with more of a rework, Mina would be a great addition.
Think of it in terms of Law and lee.
I still think they should give Mina more Guan yu style vibes with her moveset.
Add a bit more weight to her weapon more fancy foot work.
The halberd deserves more fanfare.
As for the Talim situation, don’t underestimate the causal audience she’s the official mascot.
From the interviews I’ve watched she’s the only character that gets more of a mention when it comes to the roster.
Tampered poll or not she’s still top 5 regardless of tier placement, story inclusion or game appearances.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. To me, halberds have always seemed to have a nice mix of elegance and power which isn't exactly how I'd describe Mina's moveset. I think Xin Xianying's moveset also conveys this really well.

There is far more evidence that they're not rewriting anything. They're filling in gaps and adding more details, but they're not changing history.

Sophitia didn't marry Rothion until after SoulCalibur, but before SoulCalibur II. So it's accurate to say that she's not married at the start of the story, but she will be by the end of the story. Kilik's transformation state is a new gameplay mechanic, but it still happened in the story, where he went berserk and slaughtered the Ling Sheng Su Temple. Again, nothing new, just given more detail and shown, not told in bios and art books.

I watched floe reaction to voldo and he called people liars in the chat by telling him that Voldo is blind and mute looooool
Not judging anyone but I only speak for myself. Personally I see someone as weird as voldo in a game I like I can't stop being curious until I know the least, but maybe it's just me lol
PS: that Talim figure isn't too bad
For those who follow street fighter Twitter you know sometimes they made it like a character took control of the account for 24 hours, last time they did it was with Cody. I though it was very creative. Imagine if Voldo took control of sc Twitter for few hours, would be full of "hhhhhhhhh gighhhhhh..." would be fun xd

Talim is under Geralt at the SDCC build of the game. And Voldo is next to Taki.
This character screen is conviently missing the random select and CAS slots.
Guys, if there are 20 character slots on the Story Mode selection, that means any additional characters NOT IN STORY are bosses. Remember, if Geralt of all characters is getting a Story Mode inclusion, that should tell you that there's only FIVE SLOTS LEFT for returning cast members and/or newcomers. But there can be a newcomer that is a boss (Algol is a perfect example).
With Voldo and Talim taking up slots on the Story Mode, that only leaves five slots left. There's still the fact that Cervantes and Astaroth have yet to be introduced. Meaning that there's probably only three slots left for characters. Hwang, Seong Mina, and Rock would be the most likely remaining contenders. Lizardman is unlikely to get a story mode and maybe a CAS preset.
