Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I think the way throws were originally implemented in SC was more of a "casual" thing. Breaking throws shouldn't be so random IMO. So I welcome a well-timed GI able to break a throw. Only one specific level/frame window of GI should be able to though. But it would be nice if the window is tighter unless there's a specific reason for it to be like that. I also like that CEs aren't universally invincible. Really, they should all be parry-able. That would make them exciting.

I fucking love Guei/crybaby lma0

I don't like throws being GI-able either. Do we really need two defensive options beating them? How unviable are they going to be??

Is it because casual players don't like getting thrown? People would always complain about that, especially in player rooms. I'm going to miss the hatred of being a Viola main who threw ten times a match Kappa

Like in Tekken?GI-able throws is fine if the window is smaller like in SC2/SC3.Also one GI for high/mid/low attacks is so noobish. If Namco want to make the game easier for all new players they should remove RO,throws,GI and totally ruin SC meh*

The SoulCalibur Twitter is asking for questions from the community about the game's mechanics that they'll ask the development team:

I both like and kind of hate that they're doing this at this present moment since it'd make a lot more sense to put out a beta demo if you're taking suggestions for mechanics seriously who haven't played it outside of pretty much the two most common and realistic things to consider from people who haven't played it, because outside looking in, it's not hard to disagree:
Throws being able to be GI'ed is the biggest criticism and suggestion I'd like to see them reconsider. Or at least close the window more on being able to. #Don'tNeuterOrSpayedYourThrowsProjectSoul
And whether people like or not, armor/equipment destruction being toggleable is technically a mechanic suggestion since it's a feature in battle, thus a mechanic for reasons I shouldn't have to explain. So I don't see why some people here are getting so mad and pointing the casual finger about people suggesting that. It's a preference thing that extends outside of just people who like CaS.
If they don't do anything about it, then it's more of the same so what else is new? But people suggesting it be an option is pretty much the only opportunity a lot of people feel they have to have their voices heard on the subject since IV implemented it.

Could not agree more, there are plenty of other potential weapon that could be added to the roster that could use grappling to an advantage but not exclusivity.
Considering how the other characters are rock with that set up would be cheap as fuck.

Chain and sickle would be a good shout One more Japanese representative would be cool.
Earthquake from Samurai Shodown is a big ninja bandit from Texas (why not) who uses a kusarigama (chain and sickle) and grapples. Farts too. lol
If Soul Calibur wanted to finally add a kusarigama user, adding a rival ninja to Taki would make the most sense.
Otherwise they could have like a huge (knight?) character who wields a ball and chain, or a Chinese character who uses a meteor hammer.
The point is.... they have options to finally bring that kind of moveset into the series. They just need to actually do it.

I am very like the weapon diversity in For Honour. That game have 22 weapon that most of them is Soul Caliur don`t have. The game does have a kusarigama character.

Now that you mention it, a grappler with a kusarigama with a moveset similar to Whip from KOF would definitely be something I could get behind.
I believe they tried to do something similar with the chain weapon from SC3? Though admitedly it wasn't half as good as it could have been. I believe they haven't tried it due to Ivy fulfilling the nieche of whippy-like character and them not having good idea how to differentiate the movesets, perhaps?

Someone based around poison would be nice. It would be cool if they looked at some of the better ideas from Ninja Scroll. They could really even just have a slow, clawed hand dipped in poison and a fast one for regular strikes, extremely close range but status effects.

This is a subject I have been talking about on Facebook. Astaroth is the only true Grappler. And the chances of Rock getting in is slim. We told at E3 that their would be one more new character. I’m hopping the new character is a grappler so we can add some variety to the cast. Tekken and Dead or Alive had at least 4 grapplers

The issue with throws is that everybody (myself included) asked for throws to not be literal 50/50 guesses even if you react on time (unlike Tekken where you can react based on the hand coming out), and SCVI finally changed this, but it also nerfed throws in 3 other ways (universal breaks, GI, RE) so now they're too weak.

Wait, there are people pointing the finger at others that are suggesting a CHOICE? I don't really see why would anyone want to remove armor break mechanically (in the sense of dealing more damage), because that is pretty fine and rewards players that use specific attacks at the right time and even then it wouldn't hurt for it to become just an aestethic thing. But visually? What is the problem with making it optional? Its not like its hard, some people like me DO love to see hot guys getting stripped mid battle, but I would never blame anyone that wants to turn this off because they just don't want to. If the idea is to make it an option, why try to go against that? Its not like people will lose anything.

I would rather not have something repulsive like Earthquake show up in SC6. Want to make a fat character? Fine, but make something appealing at the very least. Gan Ning, from Dynasty Warriors would be a better example, and I think the best character to fit with this weapon already exists in lore: Voldo's beloved master, Vercci. I mean, if Voldo is his sex slave, a master with a chain would make perfect sense. The thing is: how long would he actually endure in the story? In Soul Edge, he is already dead, and while we know that this game will include some events from that part of the timeline, I doubt he would be worth including.

I dont understand, I thought you have to guess now between "4 or not 4" instead of "A or B". Did I miss something?
Yes, this is correct. It’s the exact same mixup.

what lol I have literally never heard anyone say that grabs should not be a 50/50. Also, they are still 50/50s thankfully. What’s the point of doing throws if they’re reactable? That’s why throws are barely used and almost never land in high level Tekken. Throws are still really good.

I'm pretty sure you take a bit more damage in a broken armor area. It's not for ecchi purposes like DOA.

EDIT:
Case in point why they shouldn't ask everyone and anyone for input about the mechanics, some of y'all are so into the CaS feature that everything else got left by the wayside. It definitely made you take more damage in 4 but it was largely cosmetic in 5. Armor break is expanded on in 6 through Lethal hit. Only said pretty sure because I haven't played the demo. I know you take extra damage but I don't know the specific amount. CaS should benefit from the new mechanics because it means you cannot have all of your armor broken at once by a heavy attack like in 5
Honestly my issue with the breaking mostly is that it applied to things it shouldn't such as ear extras like elf ears, wings, horns, the horse legs, and other such things that would be an inherent part of any character they were a part of. Is why so many people want to be able to choose some parts to be unbreakable. Nothing more weird than your fawn with cute fawn ears, fawn legs, a cute little fawn tail suddenly having human ears, no cute little tail and human legs.
