Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Yeah, but I don’t know why Taki is on the antagonist side when Mitsurugi has more interest in having Soul Edge than destroying it.

Also Talim possibly being in the middle (which I’m considering important characters tied to the swords and expected Raph beneath Geralt) throws me off. Likewise Voldo not being opposite Yoshimitsu. I can understand Tira opposite of Yoshimitsu at least but Voldo is pretty much on the side of Soul Edge and really can’t have a possible rival.

Unless if Talim is really in the middle, then it could be someone new or maybe Raph. Voldo’s enemies are really thieves (Salia?) and I don’t see him opposite Cervantes (who may be on top with possible Papa Groh.)

I also thought the same thing, but Shugen Kokonoe uses a katana, I doubt the Setsuka's players would want her being replaced again, Let's be honest which makes her style interesting is the umbrella, because makes her gameplay more beautiful and elegant.
I would have no problem seeing him as CaS using Mitsurugi's style in his story mode and later bringing Setsuka as DLC, as it was already established that Mitsurugi's main rival at the moment is Taki.

Her master was time travelling aPat tho.

He is on the good guys side because he was created to be the representative of Japan, or to be more specific, he is a symbol. Being a rival of Mitsurugi she ended up staying on the side of the villains. +Mekki-Maru has a fragment of Soul Edge, but the energy of evil is sealed...

In SC II Voldo stole Yoshimitsu's katana, thinking it was Soul Edge.
Nothing will be more epic than Yoshimitsu speaking to Voldo:
- "A merchant of human lives... ABSURD!" :sc1yos1:

The only thing I can really see is that Taki has a cursed blade, and Mitsurugi isn't evil, and doesn't contain any malice, he simply wants to be stronger.

Talim being on the center bottom makes sense if you take it to mean that, like Zasalamel (who she would be opposite), she only truly seeks balance. Balance happens to mean destroying or putting a stop to Soul Edge, most of the time, but Talim would also be equally against Soul Calibur as presented in the end of SoulCalibur IV and also SoulCalibur V, arguably just as "evil" but in a "good" way.

Raphael makes more sense opposite Siegfried, since he was primed to be Siegfried 2.0 until Soul Edge shards corrupted and ruined his body. It would also allow him to rival Tira if Tira is opposite Nightmare, and this would mirror the opening FMV to SoulCalibur III. Voldo doesn't really make any sense not being opposite Yoshimitsu, however, and I'm not really believing that until I see it. Cervantes makes a lot more sense to be opposite Ivy, where Voldo is allegedly.

Random thoughts since the stream/comments in thread:

1. Asta is a grappler. You can't say that you want a grappler like EQ, then say that asta isn't a grappler because his moveset isn't designed to be in front of them. EQ (and kusa from SCV/VSpecial) were both built around having strong moves up close and great buttons from far away (and consequently Kusa is top tier in part due to this).

Asta is very similar to both of them, with powerful long range options, and great up close options IF at advantage, and lackluster defense when under pressure (like, you know, a grappler. Ivy is similar as well). Rock was also a grappler more focused on the oki side of things, but rock is also always pushed out the door unfinished (there's no way they looked at that movelist and thought it was ready to actually compete).

That said I'd love to see asta and rock done right, and even another grappler. I personally always loved the idea of fixed ranged grabs like Anakaris, and I think between Ivy's new ranged throw/algol's walk back punish you've got the groundwork for something like that. But i'd also bet hard money against any new grappler making it into the game, let alone one I want, so meh

2. GI grabs is fine. 50/50 grabs are fine. Tekken grabs are fucking terrible. Tekken is a fun game, but seriously you can expect to see a pro with a break % in the 90's. That is not a game that can have grapplers (king is technically one because he can maybe land a few throws, but you'll see entire sets where he doesn't land one unless its from combo).

3. Game looks GOOD. I've been waiting to see it for a real chunk of time in good players hands, and man does it look nice. Of course, the curse of SC is that it always LOOKS good, and then about a week after launch you've got horrible glitches, poor balance, or 236+B or some other crazy good move invalidating half the cast. Please god let this one come out clean, and if it doesn't, let it get the obvious patches. I'm not even asking for perfect balance, but i'd just once like a SC where some characters don't feel unfinished and inherently flawed (rock/zwei) while others make playing major portions of the cast pointless (yoshi/apat/soph/natsu/X all come to mind)

4. Really glad to hear them talk shop about Soul Charges. I think it's the most intersting thing about the game, and yet we know so little about what they actually do for most the cast, or how it affects your playstyle. The breakdown on mitsu at the start was wonderful in explaining why I should give a shit for characters who aren't obvious like nightmare.

I think Ivy is opposite of Xianghua because they’re A: the female members of the original SC1 factions and B: intended hosts for the swords.

My guess of Cervantes vs Papa Groh is because they’re possibly favored vessels of the swords and seem convenient to be in those top two new slots. Not to mention the fathers of likely spirit sword vessels.

Raph is considered antagonistic I’d think but he could be on the heroic side for getting his role in freeing Siegfried from Soul Edge and his intentions pre-vampirism are arguably noble enough. At least somewhere where Mitsurugi is.

Or maybe Raph and Lizzy are opposites even though Cassandra makes more sense than you’d think across Lizzy.

Kong Xiuqiang stole Krita-Yuga (Soul Calibur) is gave to Chai Xiangfei, who soon passed to Xianghua. Ivy's father as we all know served as a former host of Soul Edge. Ivy contains Soul Edge energy in her body. So then both are linked to the swords because of their parents, we don't mention the fact that Xianghua is ally of the protagonist (Kilik) and Ivy the right arm of the antagonist (Nightmare).
I can answer anything related to the history of the game, just send honey.

I also think the different post-RE options characters have is really interesting. People spent so much time complaining about it, they haven't really explored its options for placement, stances, and different moves to be used based on the matchup.

I tuned out for a bit. Did they end up confirming how the GI windows work? There seems to be two prevailing thoughts on here.

I think this whole business around a good and bad side (or opposites) of the character select screen is being romanticized. Sometimes characters are just put in their places to make the character select screen look appealing, nothing more.

As for Setsuka being replaced by her master I can't think of anything worse to enrage her fanbase. Again this needs to be pointed out that SC6 covers the timeline from Soul Blade up to Soul Calibur 2 (seven years). SC2, SC3 and SC4 all happen in the same year so it's completely possible for Setsuka to fit somewhere in the game considering Talim looks to be the age she was in SC2 (that's no 11 year old body). Considering the lore depicts a long period of time between Setsuka's master's encounter with Mitsurugi and her master's death it doesn't even have to be at the point SC3 started. In fact the four year period between SC1 and SC2 seems the best place for her master's duel and his later death to have taken place. Looking at her lore she doesn't seem to have any encounters with any of the cast until SC4 so with this in mind there is plenty of flexibility, unless of course that encounter with Mitsurugi in the SC3 CGI intro is cannon which would then conflit with SC4 lore.

Anyway my point being is there's nothing stopping from Setsuka appearing in SC6, in fact it's the perfect game to expand her story more.

The only thing stopping Setsuka from being in VI is the prevalence of other characters before her who have had more storyline relevance, however marginal that may be. And that ranges from Cassandra, Raphael, Tira, Hilde, Yun-seong, Seong Mi-na, and Hwang. Setsuka is one of the likeliest candidates for DLC, however, based purely on her unique, competitively viable playstyle.

I just think, story-wise, they're saving Setsuka (and Hilde) for SoulCalibur VII. But that doesn't mean she (they) can't be DLC in SoulCalibur VI.

I'm probably in the minority, but I liked aPat's gender neutral Iaito style, but I'm a sucker for fitting CaS. I could use it on anyone and it never felt illfitting. The same way people complain about Leixia/X's CE pose, I complained about the umbrella in 3 and 4, effectively making it so back in the day lil Noctis had no time to learn umbrella girl because I couldn't fathom a CAS I liked it on.

Would be cool if Cervantes' 1P is his human form and 2P the ghost. They did say this is meant to cover I and II...
That's one thing I hope and expect: a wider era so more costumes for each SC game represented. And since the game is the most "content packed" one... ^^

Damn that sucks. But it answers the question if there are other characters on the new build other than Talim and Voldo. So I'm guessing we'll get reveals after the SC6 tournament is over on August 3rd.

THAT IS if we don't get it early. =D

Over 192 Attendees. <3 Maybe they'll push it the next day XD

No Talim or Voldo gameplay at Evo ? Oh no... :( i'm wondering why. .
So the sc6 tournament is August 3rd ? Hope we will get reveal right after the tournament. Is it possible ?

Evo is know for reveals after the games tournament ends. Not saying it will 100% happen but chances are high. Like every year SF gets something at the end of theirs.

Any who heres hoping =D.

Still kinda of weird though no new build at Evo. Hopefully there will be one at another event or something.
