Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

No, so Assassin was basically a group of people collecting soul edge shards for Fygul Cestemus, they also used Hwang's moveset for SC2. Assassin/Hwang are completely different from Yun. I think Hwang is also better though I didn't play SC3AE. Yun can't do the job when they have two different playstyles. EDIT: It makes more sense to add something that pertains to something else.

OMG 3AE VIDS ARE ELUSIVE! Thanks!
EDIT:I like the Tetsuzanko tackle but they changed him so much from vanilla SC3. He had slightly better kicks previously. Hopefully they can make him into an amalgamation of all his best moves. Maybe with some backturned attacks or counters

Astaroth, created by a cult who worshipped the Greek god Ares to locate Soul Edge, returns with his giant axe in-hand and a deadly attitude in tow. Swinging his giant axe with great strength, only the most skilled warriors stand a chance before Astaroth in the arena of battle. Astute opponents may be able to exploit Astaroth’s lumbering speed to their own advantage with quick strikes and dodges. Weak opponents should just prepare for destruction.

Seung Mi-na was born to battle. Having grown up in the famous Korean Seong Dojang headed by her father, her formative years were spent around weapons of all types, many of which she learned to use quite well or even better than her father. When denied the chance to join the military to protect Korea from invaders due to her gender, she took on the mission to locate Soul Edge to prove herself to her nation.

Astaroth is a golem created by the leader of an evil cult. Imbued with an amazing strength as well as the martial art experience of highly skilled warriors, he is the perfect weapon to serve the cult doctrine of destruction and rebirth. All too aware of his mission, the creature is tirelessly seeking for the cursed sword.

He was granted power during his creation by Ares, the Greek god of war, and the god remains the golem’s one true master. Astaroth’s fighting style is based on the White Giant that Ares once observed, but the golem doesn’t seem to care that his style is a mere copy. All that matters to him is how many people his techniques enable him to kill, and how cruelly he can do it…

Seong Mi-Na is a woman, but first of all she remains a warrior. When her father decided to search for a marriage suitor for her, she decided to run away. In her flight, she took the most precious treasure of the Seong family, the Scarlet Thunder a weapon passed down through countless generations.

As one would expect of the only daughter of the Seong family master, Seong Mi-Na trained fiercely in the art of the longsword and acquired great strength and agility. Despite the weight of her weapon, she wields it with disconcerting ease and grace.
So Bamco Europe's press release mentions that Astaroth's fighting style is based on Rock's, don't know if this is hinting Rock will be in the game or if they're just acknowledging the lore.

I love the art style used in story mode.

I'm curious to see these NPCs.
Xianglian, Rothion, Kunpaetku, Kyam, maybe Toki, Salia, Ashlotte, Ciri (the witcher), Cassandra...

We've already seen Xianglian, actually!

So should he appear, how can Rock differ from Astaroth? Also we should remember that Lizzy is getting the sword and shield back (although they’re different sizes from Sophitia’s) which could mean Rock gets an axe too.

That’s my one concern with a returning Hwang. Unless Rock gets the Hwang treatment now. Can’t count on Li Long either.

Looks like it’ll be Cervantes, Lizzy, Rock, Hwang, Inferno, and Groh’s dad after all if they’re focused on returning the SC1 cast.

Cassie, Raph, Tira, Setsuka, and Hilde are all vying for that last slot or DLC. Either way, someone’s fans will not be happy. The talk about the control mapping makes me think Hilde’s gonna bite it to focus on the first three Caliburs.

Another possibility (if they decide Astaroth is a full copy of Rock's style) is a Kuma/Panda situation, where they are technically both in as proper characters but are full clones that share a roster slot (possibly giving Rock his own CE like Tekken did for Panda).

The Astaroth trailer makes me think they've combined their movesets into one so I can see it happening, mix Rock's gimmick into Asta's moveset so that the style fits both, meaning they can keep in Rock with a unique non-CaS model for story purposes (and fans that'd rather play as a human) but not waste time developing an entire extra unique moveset for him.

That's also possible for Hwang/Yun, they're similar enough (and unpopular enough) that they could combine their movesets into one pretty easily and it wouldn't feel forced and awkward like the other characters originally introduced as replacements would.

Hwang was left out in III but Lizzy and Rock still made it. Maybe this time Rock misses out. His higher chance kind of has me wanting him to be revealed just to get it over with.

You could roll Lizzy and rock into one twin axe style and put Cass as a clone for Sophie and Hilde as a skin for mina. That means we can get characters like Ashlotte and Leixia Kappa
Joking aside, I don't really think we should be thinking much about rock until we have all the most unique styles. As much as I trust him, even verge can get blindsided, as he said earlier. It's entirely possible, however likely or unlikely it is, to get Tira, Hwang/Yun, Cervy, Setsuka, Raph, amyiola. Then I feel we can look more at the other characters, that could get fleshed out, such as Ashlotte, Valeria, Rock and Whichever is missed Hwang/Yun, Amy/viola. That'd be nice.

Okay, no, I'm sorry but you are using a bunch of extremely skewed stuff to make sense.

First of all, there is no way in hell they would bring Rock back if it meant leaving Tira out, Tira is a much more popular character and the dude who is balancing the game is the Evo champion of SCV who mained her.

Inferno for all we know could be just a Nightmare Skin, which is more likely than a mimic, again they know mimics are not welcomed after SCV had 3 of them and Okubo also directed Tekken, they kicked Mokuji out and Mokuji was even a mascot type of character.

And I know people here have a boner for Hwag, but I still think Yun has a bigger chance to be in.

Also, the Lizardman silhouette is not a good parameter, we need the game model in the first place.

You'd think Zas and more recently Talim being revealed would've stopped people thinking they're repeating SC1. Hopefully we get Tira shown at Gamescom later this month to stop it properly (she is sort-of German after all, might as well reveal her at the news event that's in Germany).
They are repeating SoulCalibur I, though not "just". They are also including events leading up to SoulCalibur II, and showing us origin stories for characters during the after SoulBlade before SoulCalibur II timeline. Tira being revealed doesn't stop or change any of this. It just means we'll see her Bird of Passage years, before she became Soul-Edge-sexual. I don't get what's so hard to understand. They're not changing the course of history, they're just giving us more details that we never saw before, and were only able to read from various sources.

Just trying to brace myself. Not get my hopes up.

Lizzy’s sword is longer than Sophie’s and seems to hold his shield differently. Guess he’ll be Patroklos.

And Mi-Na gives me hope for daos/cutlasses without crying or kawaii peace signs.

Rock has Hwang’s absence from 3 on (only because the devs found the former a new weapon is my guess) when Hwang could have been in 4 with Li-Long since the loli made it.

Still the thought of Mi-Na’s dad being more likely from technicality than Rock is always exciting.

And no, I’m not pushing for Rock. My feelings about his inclusion are about as strong as that one “Be strong for mother” Doduo.

Not complaining that best girl made it since she arguably gives a dao/cutlass style a chance by association.

One problem I have personally with Yun/Hwang is that I find the style honestly kind of boring (Hwang especially, that SCIII AE video someone posted makes it look like he's got interesting or unique at all).

So far it seems like they're making sure each character has something different and exciting about their playstyle so what could they do with Yun or Hwang? Yun's thing before sort-of was being athletic and forceful but Mina looks to be getting reworked having that as her thing (with a hint of brutality too) so that might be out.
