Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

That is why I used Team Battle as an example, it is a cheap mode to be made since it doesn't use anything but existing assets.

Just remember that SCV mimics were also majorly past models, in fact I'm of the opinion Pyrrha Omega was a story mode only character at first and Elysium was meant to have that movelist. Alpha Pat, Pyrrha Omega and Kilik all look as last minute as it gets, no 2Ps is a big red flag.

When you say "team battle" are you talking about tag options mid-match? Or just something involving turns between rounds and matches?

My point is there's probably no real crossover between the people who would be working on a new gamemode and the people who would be working on a mimic. If they have mimics, it's probably because the artists and character developers didn't have much left to work on at the time, while people who work on programming new gamemodes would be off doing their thing.

It happens all the time in game development, and it's actually a big reason for day one DLC and stuff - the devs finish their required work and start pumping out additional content.

Basically what SCII team battle, where you select up to eight characters and they fight. When you knock down the first enemy, the second takes it place and so forth so it becomes the first to eliminate all eight of the enemies characters wins. (Still hoping is in the game like i do with every single release only to be sad it isn't.)

The only real hurdle i can think of for the game and team battle is how much memory each character takes and would that still hit their hardware requirements that they want. I don't think it should be a problem but that would be something they would have to think about. Otherwise we get some really annoying loading screens like in Tekken as opposed to the really nice and smooth transitions that we had in SCII.

Not the tag type, hahah, that is a bit more complex, I'm talking about the SCII style that is quite popular as a request.

I would rather him to not exist, period. Making him a slightly modded Nightmare appearance wise would be better. It would be preferably to not have that slot at all in my opinion, it is a pointless thing to add in a game they didn't add much in the first place as far as characters go. For me adding a character to be a mimic is just bad management of resources, the time and money spent on him could have been used to make team battle a thing for example.
They're not adding a character to be a mimic. Inferno exists, he does, that's a constant, he's going to exist no matter what, since he is the embodiment of Soul Edge, and he is a boss character to be fought in the story mode. Using Inferno's model as the mimic is hardly nothing additional work that is taking anything from anything else.

Maybe Inferno is what was said about those extra alts? But shouldn’t Cervantes also have an Inferno skin?

Voldo in SCIV had unique mask-thingies.
Probably not, because I'm assuming SoulBlade will be told in the prologue and not be playable at all, so no reason to include Inferno Cervantes, he'll already be defeated before any battle events happen. The Cervantes we see would be the revived form that is trying to get Soul Edge back.

But characters having extra CaS parts like Voldo did in SoulCalibur IV is a neat idea, even better if we can actually use them on CaS as well.

Would you be expecting something like this playable in an online lobby? I can see people getting quite annoyed by something like this.... i guess its ok for single player only but i just dont see much of a point except to say "i can take out several of your characters with just this many/one"

Okay, you know how making a character model demands artists, 3 modelers, extra hours of studio and voice actors? No, Inferno doesn't exist, he is a character that needs people to bring him into the game, I cannot understand what part of that is so hard for you to understand, the model we fight in story mode is another expense an unneeded one at that. I cannot be more clear that I'm talking about the expenses of the character and not the in-universe character.

I'd love for it to be playable online. It doesn't have to have a ranked mode, but its something that allowed players to create teams that they wanted to fight with and they could do things like give handicaps (one player selects a smaller team) or even demonstrate skill with multiple different characters. Could have really cool moments that you'd expect from SC when you have a character end up taking two out before having the next three of yours getting taken out. Something about pitting your team of characters against another team and duking it out until one side is standing is really appealing, and now that we have CAS that could have a lot more potential too.

It's really just an option that people in the community enjoyed and since games end up being online more and more, making it an online mode would be a plus.

Tira would make a lot of sense to be a pre-order bonus since she's very popular + she got introduced in SC3. I'm not saying just because she wasn't in SE,SC, and SCII that she wouldn't have any story relevance ('cause as established, this is a reboot), but rather that it would be easier for someone like her (and generally better than having a stupid mimic in the roster).

Basically, Tira can be a pre-order bonus for the same reasons that Setsuka & Hilde can be DLC. There's no difference between those 3 except for their popularity, and it's not even that much of a difference, honestly.

I understand all that completely. When I say "he exists", I mean, we know he exists, he's confirmed to be in the game, he was in the story trailer at E3. So, regardless of him being an unlockable character to be playable as a mimic or not, the work is going to be put into the game to make Inferno a character anyway, as he is a storyline boss. That's nothing that can be changed, because that is in the history of the game, that is what happened in SoulCalibur I, which is primarily the story that SoulCalibur VI will be telling. Not including Inferno as a boss was never an option. That's what I don't understand that you don't understand.

Not for people struggling to look for decent matches in relatively short periods of time it isnt a plus. It sounds like you haven't spent a large amount of time for online matches. Its already annoying as it is waiting for a turn between several players but now we multiply that wait by large amounts to figure a whole team needs to get wiped out. Also figure double the loading screens.

This effects game balance as well. Consider that characters' are balanced off things like life totals... but what about extra stuff like soul gauge and meter? Its not really appropriate to just carry over left over life from a previous battle and call that good.

There is a difference, though. Tira has known history being active as a Bird of Passage from 1583-1590, which is the storyline time that this game is covering, it's a perfect inclusion of Tira to get her origin story before she became a servant of Soul Edge. Sure, you could say we could make stories for Setsuka and Hilde all the same, but the difference is, we don't have to make a story for Tira. That story already exists and is well-documented. We've just never seen it in-game. It has nothing to do with reboot, it wouldn't be changing history, it would just be expanding upon it.

Edit: Not sure why my last few words got cut.

No one is saying its replacing normal matches. It's like specials in 4, you can turn it on at lobby creation and people can search for it. Or you can just have it for private matches even. I've played quite a bit of online, the only thing it would take away from is that some players may want to play that mode over normal matches and considering that there already isn't that much online variety, its not really that much of a problem. The only players that have to deal with the wait time are the players that actually want to participate in the mode.

And there’s still the mystery of match type we’ve seen in menus.

Also nobody bothered to change the camera type.

I hope we can hide the UI in training so I can get glamor shots of my customs.

It removes several available standard lobbies that would otherwise be available if that mode isnt. Playing online isnt always a particularly enjoyable experience. Its made tolerable if an abundance of people and lobbies are available. The more, the better. Even if there are people who prefer team battles, i can guarantee there will be people who will despise them for the reasons i stated. Everyone will enjoy standard matches at least somewhat.

You also realize as this game ages, the player base will significantly drop as well right?

Hmmm so if Tira is the preorder char (which I think is a probable outcome) then won’t we be seeing her reveal soon with a *Preorder char tag?

Maybe she’ll be revealed at Gamescon and they’ll really ramp up the preorder marketing.

You can say the same about Hilde and Setsuka, though. They both have backstories that can be further explored & expanded on. But honestly, all this doesn't really matter since it's a reboot. They can make Setsuka Sophitia's long lost twin sister if they wanted to.
