Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Hey @Vergeben, I need to ask you something.

A while back, you said one of the new character designs they've been working on is a dark-skinned female amazonian woman.

https://8wayrun.com/threads/soul-calibur-vi-general-discussion.19804/page-39#post-736576

You said the concept could make it into the game at one point but is left on the cutting room floor. That said, apparently Zas and Mi-na weren't going to be on the main roster either, but here they are. You also pointed out the oddity in that there would only be two newcomers, both males, and that doesn't seem quite right to which I agree. This has been buzzing around Gamefaqs to much hype and debate, because a lot of people like myself are dying for a brand new female fighter.

So, in the months since you mentioned this, is there anything you can say regarding this potential new fighter? I understand if you don't have anything, but I'm just wondering.

A comments in my last video suggest that the Yggdrasil tree in the backgroundd suggest that the boss has something to do with this Nordic secret orginization behind gr0h.

What do you think about it ?
To me, it really just says that Grøh's dad is locked into the bottom row center slot, since he would be the base of the tree, assuming we're using the tree as real reference point. Otherwise it's giving a physical embodiment to the idea of the rivals opposing one another on different sides of the tree. But that was rather obvious already.

During Comic-Con they said we are not getting post Soul Calibur 3 characters.

That means...

Hilde have 0 chances to return...

So... Rock confirmed :3
I wouldn't say Rock confirmed, necessarily, we would still have Amy, Yun-seong, and Li Long as options.

The only right information in this entire post is the one about Mi-Na and even that one is half wrong.

-The dark skinned female was left in the cutting room before the game started to develop and that was said along with the information in the post where it first appeared.
-He said Zas could end up as DLC, which he said at the time some characters were being considered for it. He said Mi-Na was not very likely but never said she was out

He also said the character could show up later, and evidently plans change. So that's what I'm wondering. The prospect of a new female fighter is exciting so that's why I want to see if there's any word on her inclusion.

I just listened to the Kayane interview (which she did great in btw) and I feel like I listened to a different interview than everyone else lol. Reading between the lines, it seemed clear that they would be doing future balance patches, but taking into account people that had been playing for a long time (pros), and otherwise just fixing game-breaking things.

Also seemed highly likely a demo was coming out. He essentially said they have nothing they need to do in September except promote and balance and tweak (and reveal) and all but blurted out they'd be having one, whether it was online or local offline.

Anyway, when he talks about needing the community support to make a pro tour (I hope it isn't called "SoulCalibur Pro Tour") I get those shounen protagonist feelings.

Namco, like any other company, wants to expand their user base that's why you have Geralt. And that's why Season Pass will include a guest character. It will be good for your beloved SOULCALIBUR, too.
Casuals buy a game for a guest, but don't buy a game AND a season pass for a guest.
Season passes are for strong fans of the game. not for casuals, so adding another guest is not a good idea.

So we're about a week away from Gamescom, do you guys think we'll get a new character reveal trailer?

Good chance they'll reveal new character i'll say, maybe even 2 considering there are 6 characters left while the release date is just 2 months away.

Also maybe introducing some new game mode + first look at CaS.

Question: Do you guys think Ivy is OP or do you just think people haven't learned how to zone in on her since she's been so middle-tier in the past couple games?

She does seem high if not top tier in SC6 so could the drastic strength difference be confusing her opponents who havent had these difficulties before? I do think her low command grab needs a different startup animation to distinguish it from the regular attack though.

I think it boils down to people not understanding the characters and also mostly to do with Ivy literally being the only character on the roster with that kind of range.

Once characters with serious gap closers (Raph) and ranged poke (Mina) start rolling in, Ivy will have some major threats.

I think speculating on tier lists is pretty pointless rn as the build being played on isn't final. I also think linkrkc and the ivy that one that Russian top 8 were just the best players at their respective tournies(maybe you could throw party wolf with link for Evo). So yeah I don't think we can call her op yet

Next week we will be at roughly 8 weeks/2 months away from the game, I think it is safe to say the last 2 week lap will bring us no new information. it seems we are all being optimistic here and considering 6 characters left to reveal.

Okay so, this gives us 6 weeks before information stop coming out, which is 3 character reveal cycles, I think they need to inform people who is the pre-order bonus character so they can finally put it on PSN, Steam and Xbox live so if there is one I think we will be finding next week, along with a CaS trailer, which also have pre-order bonus I think.

No one is making tier lists per say, people are just pointing out the character has tools which need nerfing, which is the objective of beta builds, to find out the retarded stuff to not ship the game with them.

First of all, no character should have specific counter picks, specially when one of them is absolutely awful close range, Mi-Na is not meant to close the gap, Mi-Na is meant to keep away hitting with the tip of the naginata.

Second of all, everyone, who played the game, but Ivy players -Quelle surprise- is worried about Ivy shenanigans, people defending Ivy are starting to sound like the people who used to defend Viola.

I would advice you to take a look at Season Passes from other companies. Then report back.
what other companies?

Namco-Tekken 7? They spent time to have a season pass with guest from other fighitng games. Nobody like them. Season 2 with Lei, Anna (and other regular chars) and everybody's happy.
Capcom-SFV? They give us tons of new chars, but not guests.
ASW-Guilty Gear? Just new chars or regular chars (Baiken).
ASW/Namco-DB Fighterz? no guests at all.
We have guest in Injustice 2 (TMNT) but also new regular chars. And they were so scared from guest chars that they used guests taken from MK!

Guest chars on DLC don't sell themself. And that's why season passes are made for fans of the game not for casuals. 10% of those who buy the game, tend to buy DLC or a season pass. And those people are you and me, huge fans of the game, not casuals. And huge fans of the game want to see regular chars to fill the roster.

Yeah but it's undeniable that if the game was released as is, Ivy would be very high in the tier list. We just don't know if she is broken, because we haven't had enough time to figure out if her strengths are combattable or not. So far all I've seen are a lot of players keeping away from her or not moving laterally enough to avoid her range. We know that she has weak close range and we know that most of her keepaway tactics are vertical but we don't know whether the reason her opponents don't zone in on her is because of OPness or if people just aren't acquainted enough with her new qualities to break out of old defending habits.

Plus, speculating a tier list is much more productive and a lot less annoying than other things that go on in this thread sometimes.

That pretty significant... I’m trying to listen out for any clues that the representative misunderstood the context of the question, but that’s pretty telling.

Hilde in 4
Viola and Zwei in 5
I’m guessing Amy and Li Long too from the arcade edition from SC3

Setsuka makes sense being DLC now being an SC3 character that represents a cut off point with having little to add to the lore of the story.

I can also see Tira being one of the last Base reveals.
Being quite a significant character but in the later stages, her value seems too heavily weighted to be DLC.
I highly doubt characters like rock will take priority over Tira.

Cassie is also interesting as they could change her positioning in the story as we never really got anything concrete with her.
So she’s probably a strong DLC possibility too.

So that leaves us with
Lizardman and Cervantes - soft confirm
#18 #19

Tira, Raphael, Yun/Hwang and new
#20 #21 #22 #23

Is it safe to say a lot of characters will make it in?

How many season pass/bouns characters again???
They should just give us all characters from Soul Edge to Soul Calibur 3 (excluding guests, mimics, bonus and bosses). They are not even 30. This is not asking too much considering there are 45 characters on Tekken 7... This way we could have a solid roster with all veterans.
I know a lot of people dislike Rock but it wouldn't be fair if he is the only missing character from the first SoulCalibur...

I know Rock isn't confirmed... I just mean that he has more chances to return than Hilde... lol
