Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Azwel looks awesome, though I hoped that he will be an actual wizard/mage fighter using staff to cast things and Necrid-like moveset will be Inferno's. But I like everything as it is too. I just hope that Inferno is not a mimic (mimics should be forgotten forever), but an actual character instead with some more magical version of Nightmare's moveset with some Nightterror moves added as well.
As for characters I think it's kinda right that Cassy and Amy are not in the roster or even DLC. We still have a lot of characters with unique weapons before adding "same weapon, different usage" characters. And Hwang is pretty confirmed I think seeing as his style was on the silhouette part of Libra trailer (if he is just a CaS with Xiang's style, then why not just put her on the poster?).
Also it would've been really cool if "Main" Lizardmen (aka Aeon) was using a mix of his old moveset, V moveset and some Pat's moves.

So Cassandra could end up not being playable in the game at all and is just a NPC?..... Fuck that.

I'm beyond pissed if they made such a stupid decision.
I guess it's still better than not being mentioned in the game at all...
And I don't thin that Cassandra and Amy should be a no-no. We already have Seigfried nightmare, killik mina, x and Hwang? Sophie Lizzardman Cassandra, all those are fairly similar.
But when it comes to Amy it appears they want to keep the character while making her Viola, so doesn't fall in the "same weapon" category anymore.

I think the mentions of her being in a story mode refers to cutscenes with 2D portraits representing characters.

That's what I mean by NPC.
They'd have at least drawn her and if the lines are voiced then she has a voice actress too. Then they'd decide that she not be in the game at all. It just pisses me off. Her being DLC isn't my first choice but I could accept that, but not making it in the game at all? As I said before, Fuck that.

Question is : who?
Lizardman and Cassandra are both the most likely as Hwang would be the most burdensome to import, since his last appearance was in III . If this is indeed the case there is a case to be made for either one of them. That said, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

If Lizardman does indeed make SoulCalibur VI, and he's back to Xi Sword & Game Shield for his default weapon, I don't believe that they want to make Amy be VIola at all, if they're gonna roll back Lizardman's axes, they can certainly roll back Viola to Amy. It makes more storyline sense that way, anyway, since Amy sheltered Raphael, and later saved his life, then Raphael trained her with what he knows, which is the rapier.

Besides that, Azwel has Algol, Necrid, and Viola covered already. We don't need an Azwel clone.Kappa

Hwang was actually in SoulCalibur V as well, albeit as a CaS using Devil Jin style and malfested. I know what you're saying, but he was also comprised of CaS parts in SoulCalibur III, so this isn't inherently different in the manner in which he was created, he just had unique voice lines and a bit more detail on his clothes, if memory serves.

The only reason that he was using Devil Jin style was that him using Leixia style was incredibly awkward, and I know, because I made a Hwang custom and tried it and it was just wrong, so I emulated the Quick Battle version of Hwang instead and made him malfested Devil Jin style.

Azwel seems creepy.

Also ironic since magic and floating Murakumo (Blazblue) swords were my possible guesses for him.

Still I’d have hoped for a Kung Jin-style bow+staff user as a newcomer.

But sadly Chaos does seem like the final stage. Hoping that those two corners would have been unlocked or something.

The random slot and lack of alts piss me off. At least Libra looks fun and CaS probably didn’t cut corners. And individual character stories.

I will be very honest with you, I think getting pissed about a decision like that is childish as hell, development time and budget are finite resources. I'm very saddened she will not make it in, but the decision makes sense, I'm willing to bet they had to chose between Mi-Na and Cassandra as they both share several traits and they choose Mi-Na and you know what? I don't care for Mi-Na, but she is not that much less popular than Cassandra and maybe was easier to frame in the timeline.

Actually this is valid to everyone in this thread complaining about just about anything.

Before you complain, think if your complaint makes sense from a business perspective, how much the budget would have to be allocated for them to follow what you want. SoulCalibur VI probably had a fairly low-medium budget, no I don't think the budget was downright low considering how pretty the game looks and how CaS textures were actually polished.

Would everyone be happy with SCIV roster + Groh and Azwel? Yes, it is impossible sadly, developers can only do as much as they are given and Okubo-San definitely wanted to make a great game and I think he did.

7 to 10 DLC I'm guessing n that's with CaS parts and not only character but still if that was true we would have 2 season pass... We will see if the sales convince Namco to release that.
Still kinda sad that they want to remplace Amy for Viola forever, but I guess I'll take Viola over no Amy at all xD
I swear to god if they replace Amy with Viola AGAIN...

Who do they think they're pleasing? Viola is NOT Amy. They need to get this into their thick skulls. Putting Viola in does NOT satisfy Amy fans, it just punches them in the face. Yes, biologically speaking, she may be the same person, but she has amnesia, ZERO memory of who she is, so she has developed a new personality (albeit with some similarities) and completely changed her fighting style (to one that, whilst interesting, I didn't like and couldn't play), her connections to other characters, etc.

I imagine the fighting style is the only reason to continue doing this because of how popular it is, but in that case, just make them separate characters. Why does one have to replace the other? Amy plays completely differently to Raphael, and Viola is completely unique, so it's not like they need to worry about duplicate styles. Stick Amy in the base roster or Season 1 DLC and stick Viola in Season 2 DLC to space 'em out a bit.

I also picture it like Nightmare/Siegfried. If they can both exist in the same roster under the plot-guise of 'Siegfried broke free and now he and Nightmare are separate' then is it so crazy to have Amy first and then 'oh she gets amnesia and now Viola is a thing' and have them both available? Yeah it's not quite as fitting timeline wise but if they make her DLC then shouldn't matter. Not to mention the difference between Amy and Viola's fighting styles are miles larger than Nightmare/Sieg.

I would say 'save it for Soulcalibur VII' where they could do the Amy-Viola-Raph story more justice and be timeline appropriate, but it sounds like that's not likely going to happen and I'd rather see them botched into SCVI for all prosperity than never exist again. I officially despise Namco for how they've apparently treated Project Soul in SCVI's development. Sounds like Okubo has as much heart as we do but the higher ups couldn't care less and are practically TRYING to f*ck them over, and that's really soul destroying to know that we COULD have gotten an even bigger and better game had Namco actually given them free reign and a better budget. It's alright sitting there and saying "Oh we don't believe you'll sell well, so here's a crappy budget" but how do you expect them to make a game that WILL sell well if the budget is so low that the roster and stages are the smallest yet and we don't even have 2P costumes? It's a vicious circle. I just hope those in the community who are able to can help keep the franchise alive, and that the team can work within Namco's sh*tty limitations and prove them wrong and that the soul still burns strong. #Cheese.

Rant aside, I do believe that if Cassandra is in Sophitia's story mode (and presumably voice-acted) then Amy will be in Raphael's since his entire story revolves around her. It's better than nothing and I hope they do it justice. I hope CAS is powerful enough to make a decent Amy with Raph's style like I had to in SCV. Heck it'd be awesome if they had Bonus Character CAS's like in III with Amy's debut and you could play as her for a battle in his story or something.

*turns fangirl switch off*

With regards to Azwel, I'm on the fence. On the one hand, he looks like a fantastic, entertaining villain with some of the best voice acting seen so far. On the other, he comes across almost pantomime-ish at times and a little overly camp which might make him more laughable than threatening, and I might be the only one who hates how his fighting style looks. It just looks like a mess of all kinds of indiscernible things and, as others have said, an Algol rip off with Necrid or Noctis thrown in. I really just prefer a single weapon and fighting style. These characters that aren't holding anything and just 'summon things' always felt really awkward to use and just were unappealing to me. That said though I'm sure he's entertaining to listen to in combat.

If the remaining characters are as the two leakers propose then I'm happy enough, I think. Cervantes was a given due to the sillhouette in the Story Trailer and the image of a CAS using his style. Lizardman also kind of a given 'cause of his silhouette, though it'd be interesting if he was actually just a CAS the whole time and freed up another slot. Raphael we sweated on and I guess we're not out of the woods but I'm a lot more confident than I was. The game wouldn't feel right without him. Hwang is definitely a wild card but as I mentioned in the past, I never got to see him when he was an actual proper character, since my first Soulcalibur was SCII, so I think it's great they're bringing a character like 3 console generations into the future and it'll be interesting to see how they approach it to make him feel as unique as the other characters personality-wise.

I'm super hype for Libra of Souls. It's everything I wanted and the fact you can probably play 3 paths (Good, Neutral and Evil) really adds replay value and I hope the story can branch in different ways aside from that too to really make individual OCs feel like they have a unique story. Hearing that the mode will have as much text as a regular RPG was a total WTF moment. I don't know if they're underestimating the amount of text RPGs have but if not then this thing is gonna be long as f*ck, and I love it and hope it means a lot of characters get screentime.

I calculated that they can probably go back to their 'one reveal every 2 weeks' format for a while at least. I would hope for more frequent reveals now but there's not enough characters left they could do that with :/ unless they can reveal other modes or something but I think we've seen all we're getting with regards to unique modes (I don't doubt Quick Battle and the like will be back but that probably doesn't really warrant a reveal).

And I'm going to be honest with you too. People are allowed to be upset. Being upset isn't childish as I'm not saying this is the worst game in world, that it deserves to fail, or that I won't eventually buy it. I'm saying that I hate this decision (if they end up doing it). Myself and others are allowed to be upset and air our grievances at things without being called childish as long as it's not going too far. So let me get this out of my system without being insulted thank you.

Considering all we know so far, I suppose the final version won't have more scenarios than the ones we have seen so far which is sad cause a fighting game deserves at least one stage per character.

If that's the case, I'm disappointed cause I am already bored of all the scenarios from watching the events... specially that one with snow and exagerated Depth of Field...
If the game has few stages then at least they should be more interactive or they will become boring pretty fast.

Libra of Souls will reuse the same stages? At least that mode should include new ones... but I doubt it considering the low budget and limited development time they had judging by all interviews. They cut down stages, 2P, characters...

Give the team another 4 months more and the game would have been better. I know the game was already pushed to be released with extra time. Not enough time in my eyes.

The fact they said this will be the most packed SoulCalibur game doesn't make sense at all by now. Unless they were refering to upcoming paid DLCs for extra stages, alt costumes... I hope this won't become another Dead Or Alive on that regard...

To me Okubo seems more troubled by the bureaucracy than just being lazy. He worked with what he was allowed to have. Would you rather lose Libra and/or Chronicles just to get those costumes? I want to think he did the best he could. Just trying to be glad this series has one more chance.

I suppose the generic stages may account for the story as well. They’re pretty even if some are plain. Too much yellow in the desert for one.

My hopes are that at least the SC4 2P parts can come back and we get classic outfit pieces for DLC. Not bikinis or diapers.

I was just going by what Verge said about her ^^

I wander why no-one bothered to ask Okubo about stages and will there be DLC stages, or at least if every DLC character will come with one.

But Viola IS Amy, like Jaycee is Julia in Tekken
