Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Everytime I watch that trailer, the way the Sophie voicer says "Yes, pain indeed lies in the past." I get so happy, I dunno why.

It's because the voicework is so powerful and has so much feeling behind it. It comes from an iconic character that we all know deals with severe emotional trauma and issues throughout the canon story of SC, a character that all of us SC fans care a lot about. It carries connotations for the story and what we can expect from the game and it's combined with the beautiful shot of said character conquering evil - a story event that has been iconic ever since the first game in the series. It's such a simple line yet it has so much meaning and beauty behind it. I'm going into this much detail because I thought I was the only one who felt this way about the way Erica Lindbeck delivered that Sophie line lol.

Why do they keep talking about "3 great categories of weapons" when Azwel has swords, a spear, an axe, and a shield? I might be bad at math, but that's not 3 xD

This is what I'm reading:

Azwel, a researcher aiming for the salvation of humanity has mastered the unique school of fighting by summoning three weapon sets of "Twin Swords, Large Axe & Spear Shield" into battle.

Weapon sets. The swords are one set. The axe is another. The spear and shield are used in conjunction, and are the third.

While the casuals and uninformed stamp their feet about Tira, new female characters and DLC characters. The tournament scene will continue to have people who like the game come together and play the game for years to come.
I kind of assumed the Tira complainers were tournament players, as it's typically tournament players who care about roster size and nothing else. I consider myself a casual and so far it's felt like I'm more loyal than most hardcore players who spend all their time complaining about this feature or that feature and the character that might miss the roster as the result and complaining about new characters like Azwel breaking the game and destroying it forever, etc.

This is the only fighter with a good dedicated character creation system. Anyone like myself is guaranteed to buy it. We have no other options. A hardcore can be turned off because their main didn't make it no matter how good the rest of the game is.

I was turned off by Soul Calibur V's roster. i still bought the game and some DLC for it. I would have gladly bought character DLC for it.

The Tira complainers are mostly people who are casual or don't understand how modern gaming works, or they are outsiders directed at Tira from crappy youtubers like Jim Sterling/game journos for the next gaming controversy.

When Tira was announced as DLC I was very happy. It meant we didn't lose a popular character. I was only annoyed by the contradicting information from MarkMan or whoever said it was preorder DLC when it's standalone day 1/season pass dlc.

I've been following this topic and the forum for a while, but never created an account or posted anything.

I was too hyped for the game for sometime, but after the roster leaks getting kinda confirmed and the dlc/pre-order thing, I can say my hype is falling apart. One of my main issues are that the price of the game in pc at my country is retarded high, in addition to the dlc package beeing half of the games price with only 4 characters. Other is that both my mains are probably not going to make it in the game (Cassandra and Amy).

Never expected Amy to make into the game, but as the game says itself as a retrain of the soul calibur 1/2 series, I'm genuinely upset that Cassandra is probably not going to make it, in order that Tira and Zasalamel as SC3 characters made it. For sure I like other characters too, but not having the option to play as your favorite characters discourages me in any fighting game.

I'm still going to keep up with the news of the game and all, but I guess I will not be buying the game anytime soon with this "problems" for me.

But in Azwel's trailer it shows 6 weapons; a blue shield, blue spear, blue dagger, 2 red daggers and a red axe. That's even more confusing.

So it was a bad translation of whichever-site-I-don't-remember :D Gotta check the Japanese version xD thanks!

Hold the lift!!!
Before you assend you need to realise we all need to work together this time if we want this series to live.

No more hierarchy BS, I don’t know if you’ve read the Dual shockers interview but Soul Calibur is in REALLY big trouble.
And explains the subtle violations we’ve seen over 6’s development.

Wasn’t SC6 originally meant to be very different from that it is now?
(I’ve read some where that the original project wasn’t doable)

We know Harada isn’t very supporting of this sister franchise, and from that interview that I’ve linked neither is Namco!
(Which explain things like T7’s highly anticipated DLC in front of its release)

And the games marketing strategy, information has been slow burning, and Tira has been forced into DLC to assure additional cost are attainable.

This isn’t like Soulcalibur and Okubo-san has been as open as possible in regards to possibilities and obstacles.

We can Not afford to separate ourselves as players man, we need to make sure the legend never dies.

I'll bet money Cassandra is one of those characters for the first season pass. She is too popular to ignore. Probably not Amy.

Single player content and customization is responsible for characters not making the roster.

Sorry to take a shot at your superiority complex but tournament players alone won't keep the series afloat. If the series wants to survive it needs to accommodate a wide audience of "casuals and uninformed" who won't just buy whatever because it helps them in a competition. Unless, you don't want any more soulcalibur games?

Anecdote incoming:

For every Soul Calibur fan I’ve interacted with in real life (not across the internet) all of them have universally stated that they are super excited for the game and will be buying it at release on at least one platform. Not a single one has backed up the boycotting side, and only one has even brought that subject up (and even then it was to make fun of the side of the boycotters).

Okubo stating that this SC needs support to continue the series isn’t even a point worth mentioning. It’s just an understood fact in the gaming industry. What happens when a new installment of a series tanks hard? Well, that’s the end of that series.

I cannot see, with how happy everyone is with how the game plays and how many things were getting after such a long wait period, how SCVI can fail.

All I see is a bright, shiny future for all things Soul Calibur including a ton of hype tournaments, fun local gatherings, and entertaining posts on this and other forums.

Happy thoughts people, happy thoughts.

I hope so for Cassandra to be in the game, even if she is DLC for season 1. For Amy, as much as I like her, never expected for her appearence in the gam at all... Not mad about that.... Only upset with the current Cassandra situation right now.

But even tho, I will think a lot in getting this at launch because of the high price compared to other game in here.

But let's wait... There is still hole. Hehe

Will it affect esports tournaments? Or is it simply a case that people don't want to spend extra money? Is there something else about DLC that I'm missing?
Depends on how you look at it.

All tournament consoles will have all the characters available to play so - no.
Tournament players who are already invested into Tira will be buying her day one so - no
Affecting the potential of creating new Tira players that could go to compete in tournaments - yes

If you want to keep things simple on the idea of DLC is that the more paywall barriers companies put up, the less sales and sustained player base will be. It's already a ton on money to get the full experience for a fighting game.

Example, as of August 2018

PS4 - £250
Broadband - £300 for a year
PS+ - £50 for a year
SC6 Deluxe - £80

So four barriers to entry for the complete experience at around £680 which could quite possibly be the cheapest option available for anyone starting from scratch. Even if you have already got a PS4 there's still three barriers to entry at £430 for the full experience. I can image a lot of people have more important things to spend that kind of money on and less people means less online activity which means less sales as people do buy games for a big online player base. I would still be playing Tekken online but I have much more important things to spend my money on than a online pass and I don't think I'm the only one.
