Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Some quick thoughts:

• Raphael appears to have at least some sort of shoulder cape from his right shoulder only so there isn't symmetry.
• Even his glasses frames do not have symmetry and will be the first thing I try to disable (just like his stupid face mask in his SC3/4 2p
• His facial model looks identical as SC4/5
• His left hand's wrist ornament again looks really strange. Is that some wavy frilly lace protruding out ?
• No sash on Raphael is disappointing (I suppose we got a shoulder cape , but it doesn't look as good.
• His little sleeveless jacket reminds me more of Maxi (ignoring the royal blue colour).
• Too much white sleeves is showing.
• the pants look good and it looks like he'll have boots that have armored knee-guards of some sort.

I'm too hyped to accurately assess his appearance.

Cervantes:

What are those white traces on his chest and cheeks?

Well didn't they say like 23 characters would be as base characters. The 2 empty ones that's with the main are the next reveals. Maybe hwang but like I said before Liz is a character class so highly doubt he's the other one. So I say it's a new female character and tira is one of the bottom ones as a bonus and with the other being like sciv or sc3 character menu or something for the dlc character or whatever.

Also I don't get the people saying that the selection screen looks lopsided or asymmetrical or whatever means anything.

Sure it looks kinda weird but they're clearly trying to be thematic with the good characters on one side and "evil" ones on the other, plus rivals on opposites. Makes perfect sense to me, and it'll probably make more sense once the DLC characters are revealed and we know their alignment/rivalries.

I disagree. The slots are too haphazard to be DLC. If they were all four outside of the 5x5 grid, I'd agree, but the placement says not DLC for me.
I'am just preparing for the worst. I don't think it s an intermediate build. It seeos to be the final roster of the final build. The 4 other slots match with the number character that you have to pay in dlc.

The only other possibility is that they added 4 unlockable chars before the 4 dlc, but it's way too optimistic for now.

Still waiting if course.

I think there are some fundamental differences between previous games' DLC and this one. By that i mean to say several future DLC characters are planned where i think previously they were not. So on that note, it may be appropriate to consider future DLC characters go in a single slot, since there may be a lot but i really think the far left and right sides will be used for that.

Tira is i think a bit of a different case. Seems like an attempt to push her out on the standard roster was made but failed to make deadline or something to that effect so she is getting that bottom spot opposite of Talim.

Okubo has worked on Tekken Project in Tekken 7. Look at how Harada handles his Character Selection screens. I mean, hell, even DBFZ or BlazBlue games styles try to be as symmetrical as possible, even Injustice 2 did at launch.

Didn't they announce a Season Pass bonus character all the way back in E3? I think the bs about them not managing to add her to the base game was just a face saving tactic.

Here's hoping that they reveal the entire base roster by the Tokyo Game Show (assuming there's anymore characters to reveal after this leak) and spend the last month before the game's release to build hype by letting people play the full base game and giving us an idea of how all the characters will play like.

Okay yeah, but if they didn't reserve a slot on the "evil" side for let's say, Tira, and then have to add her DLC slot to the roster, then she'd have to go with all of the "good" characters and the entire theme of the selection screen would fall apart and make no sense.

All I'm saying is the "symmetry" with this roster is more than just lining them up neatly, the entire thing clearly was already thought out. If you think of it that way, it makes sense that the DLC characters are missing from slots that seem like they should be filled in, because where they are in relation to everyone else matters, they can't just be tacked on wherever.

I feel you man, but this is what you get after the fiasco that SC 5 was and Banco losing trust in SC franchisee... we can only hope for a season 2 pass but even then it still feels wrong. if we don't want SC to die we have to support it in this times or otherwise we will not see another SC game in the future.

I dont know how long exactly it takes for them to get things done but keep in mind they have to work on the additional DLCs incoming in addition to playtesting/balancing all of those characters. That is a big thing right there. Takes a lot longer to do that than i think most people believe. E3 wasnt that long ago.

Wh- ... A... I...

Psykai, exe has stopped working. Please reinstall your HypeDriver and try again...

I mean... I know this leak is REAALLY bad for the poor devs, but it's also so hilarious that it even happened (how did they let that build get into public hands BEFORE posting trailers? XD).

And holy crap... I legit can't even process this so my thoughts are all over the place.

I'm overjoyed to see Raph confirmed at last, like, way more than I thought I'd be considering I didn't even play him much, though I agree his redesign is a little funky, especially those unsuiting glasses, but the rest isn't bad.

Cervantes looks BAD ASS. One of the best faithful redesigns in the game easily. He looks like the menacing zombie dread pirate once more.

The roster feels complete with these two now, sort of. Like, there are no characters I feel the game is totally incomplete without now, but the NUMBER of characters still bothers me and it's looking like those other slots are the 4 DLC :/ with enough room above the bottom corner pieces for Season 2 if they decide to do one.

God I can't wait for the double trailer now. I'd legit stay up all night if I thought it was gonna happen (it's nearly 3am for me) but I'll check back tomorrow and crash the hypometer again.

There's a small dot right next to the Random button though:

TGS is still in 20 days, and it will be practically a full month before release. Algol was always revealed right before launch for both SCIV and SCV, so there's always a chance we get something else coming.

I don't agree the entire thing clearly was already thought out, not anymore. Not with Seong Mi-na vs. Voldo or Yoshimitsu vs. Cervantes.

Fair point, I think the rivalry thing only really applies to some characters and not all. They do seem to be sticking pretty close to the good/neutral/evil alignment thing though.

I just think that in the end, the DLC slots are in the spots that they are because they make sense with the alignment or rivalry aspects of those DLC characters. Really is the only reason why those slots would be so "lopsided" as people have been saying.
