Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

The game is not far away so we don't have to wait long before we know if all those dots represent DLC characters or not. I feel the back-and-forth bickering is doing nothing but enticing the moderators to use their fearsome "lock thread" ability.

Since shops are back, do you think these lovely ladies will return?

The second 4chan leaker described the item shop as just a menu with no NPC.

So has anyone had any luck getting that 25% off from Voidu on the PC version? I heard it might be for euros only.

From my understanding, only Cervantes and Raphael were focused on by the dedicated SC players for obvious reasons. Someone managed to get Talim's moveset onto her subforum, but no actual footage exists of any of the other characters beyond what's already been shared on this forum. Likely because the booth was shut down as soon as it was cleared to be a accident.
Thanks. Well, I'm glad they got the most important moveset ᐛ

You forgot to add in the word "Sheeple" but still good. 8/10 satire right there.
Unfortunately, some people are incapable of understanding dark comedy/satire since they take everything too literally and cannot comprehend the big picture, hence missed the "Woody" joke in the Cerv/Raph video. There's a documentary that tries to cover these concepts called "The truth in plane sight" by Hibbeler productions (on Youtube), but even then I doubt the "sheep" will ever get it. They probably think the Taki leak was legit too - but again, it's just to create hype via the media, which has always been used as a weapon (before that it was newspapers).

Hwang's and Lizardman's presence is up in the air right now, but I'm inclined to believe they are actually in just because of the marketing logistics. There are six and a half weeks left until the release, they can't seriously be so bad at planning things ahead as to be left with so much time to fill with maximum hype and so little characters (who have also all managed to leak already). The hell are they supposed to reveal in their most important timeframe? They must have some more Jokers hidden up their sleeves!

That's one of the (many) reasons. Plus, I doubt they're DLC like some people are trying to say. As much as I want them, they're not exactly the most marketable characters to use as an incentive to buy DLC like Tira, Cassandra and Setsuka are.

I have always learned to keep expectations in check, be prepared to be wrong, and always take non-official sources with a grain of salt.

So with unexpected and unplanned reveals like this are always a nice surprise. You guys need stop panicking over every little thing. And try to remember that you won’t get everything you want.

Anyway, two of those slots are clearly not DLC. I’ll fight ya for it.

Why is it that people know Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Motohiro Okubo - yet nobody seems to know who the real geniuses are behind SoulCalibur VI (and the industrial revolution :-p). For those who have jobs and can afford to buy SCVI with just Lizardman and Hwang as DLC: do you find at work that your manager takes all the credit for your individual and team efforts? So I'll ask again: who exactly is behind Project Soul and why do we never hear about their development team?

Eh... online, I guess?

They ought to do a full package overview of the game, going over each mode and highlighting some features, like 'combat lessons' in training, for example. Give people one video they can look at to see what the game is all about. Too often I've seen people unaware of the existence of certain modes and the like because they're spread out across so many videos. That's fine for initial reveals, but a launch trailer that ties it all together would be a great idea.

The genius behind SC6 is SC team, mainly Okubo.

And actually seeing how SC6 works i suspect that Okubo is the guy that brought all the best aspects for Tekken 7.

During sc5 developement, they posted this video where you can see the developement team

The team is probably different right now, though. I wish they made a video like this for sc6.

Not gonna happen. It will only be a menu in Libra Souls mode... If we are lucky we will get a static image... But I doubt even that.

On the other side, about training lessons... I bet it will just be a bunch of pre-recorded videos with the buttons you must push.

In SCIII we got Olcadan with the best training mode I've seen in a fighting videogame.

Details like those are the reason why SCIII is the best game in the series, haters like it or not. It will never be surpassed.
The most packed SoulCalibur game will always be SoulCalibur III. Do not get fooled by Okubo's words.

Those people probably got lots of messages cointaining mostly insults from angry fans...

They won't show SCVI team because if the game becomes a failure like SCV you can imagine what could happen... now that social media is all around. Now that we know SCVI could be the last one... People would jump to incorrect conclusions and say Project Soul Team is responsible of that.

In fact, I remember during development time one of them explained all the stress he had and those words were spread all over Internet before the author eliminated the original post.

They don't want those poor people to have extra suicidal thoughts after all the work they have done.

They are trying to avoid that for SoulCalibur VI this time. Okubo will be the one to get the angry messages... or words of approval this time around deppending on what turns out to be.

Yeah, but at the same time, I can't blame them for not making SCIII part 2.

SoulCalibur III went into production on the shoulders of the most successful title in the series. That means a lot, both for the game's budget and the spirits of those creating it. They pushed their dev time to the limit, and still had to forgo stuff like online or a multiplatform release in order to complete the project they had envisioned. And the game still suffered for it in balance issues and bugs. And for all their efforts, the game marked the beginning of a downward spiral for the series, from which it still has yet to pull out of.

It was a truly remarkable game, but with just a little bit of perspective, it's not hard to see why attempting a similar project is neither feasible for the developers nor desirable for the producers. It was incredibly ambitious, but was spurned in sales compared to SCII and was rejected by the fighting game community.

I'd love for SCVI to be a runaway success and reignite interest in the franchise, both from consumers and Bamco themselves, spurring a more expansive sequel with tons of awesome features like SCIII, but I think the most I can realistically expect is a moderate success that keeps the series afloat, if only just.

In any case, for what they've got to work with, I think SCVI is shaping up pretty well. After SCV and Tekken 7, I was worried we wouldn't even get basic arcade mode endings, and that Create-a-Soul would be pared back. Instead we're getting stories for the whole roster, a main story, and a weapon master/CotS successor with a story, and while Create-a-Soul doesn't appear transformatively different from the last go around, it doesn't seem regressive in any way, which puts it squarely above Tekken 7's devolved customization. Plus, gameplay wise, characters look more distinct than they've ever been before. I'm not even upset about the meter anymore, and I usually hate meter mechanics. The game looks like a lot of fun, plain and simple.

But yeah, Olcadan defo has to return in SCVII.

Raphael’s gameplay is back on youtube, someone managed to put it yesterday.
I have to say that I miss his kind of moustache (or beard?) of SC2 lol. Anyway his gameplay looks cool, even if i don’t usually play with him

I think that Soul Calibur VI is actually in a good place...previous games didn't really have the advantage of streaming platforms and this along with interest in esports and the competitive scene in general is probably going to be what keeps Soul Calibur VI going for a good while after initial release.

This thread is full of realists vs. idealists and "pessimists" vs. "optimists", all trying to justify or not justify the lack of [insert name] in a game that's obviously been suffering from budget cuts and time constraints. Whatever the result is, we'll only know when the game actually comes out and it's up to us to make sure Okubo doesn't suffer the brunt of masses' negativity.

So I'd just advise everyone to stop the pointless back and forth before the mods lock this thread too.
If you are going to be debating on the number of people in the roster, can you at least direct it to the right thread? It feels like the same five people have been regurgitating the same information spread across four different threads and two subforums.
Don't get this thread locked, guys. Chill out.
MVPs honestly.
More about thread closure below.*

When they say it's not going to be 20, the "full product" in question could easily mean the base game + DLC.

In the absence of evidence, either interpretation could be just as valid.
This is something I've been wondering about... It could just as easily be argued that the base roster IS 20, and Okubo was talking with the 4 DLC in mind when discussing the final roster. It's a cynical approach of course.

It's basically all interpretation. My opinion is "I don't really care I'm happy to wait and see". Don't @ me.

I think someone in here mentioned at some point or referenced an interview that said Libra of Souls would have shops. Is it feasible that most, if not all, CaS items (that aren't DLC of course) can only be accessed through the shops in that game mode?
A reasonable assumption, it would certainly give more life to the singleplayer content, and player retention is important. As long as it's not too much of a grind then I'm OK with this method. SCV's was a pain.

Since shops are back, do you think these lovely ladies will return?
I hope so, even if just as NPCs it would be a nice little nod, but if they wanna give us there parts to remake them in CaS that wouldn't be too terrible either, since I don't expect them to be playable.

Moderating/Thread Closure concerns:
More than anything else my priority is that members of this forum can share their enjoyment of the series while feeling safe to discuss their opinions without feeling harassed or browbeaten. People are excited and want to share that excitement without other people screaming at them that their opinions are wrong because someone else decided theirs were right. Not everybody cares to argue and not everybody shares the same opinions. Crazy.
Nobody *knows* the truth of the matter. You're all taking best guesses, and that's fine, but stop swinging your opinions round like it's the end of the matter. Whether you end up right or wrong is irrelevant if you conduct yourself like an ass.

If your posts are often being deleted then that's probably why and you only have yourself to blame. Or y'know they're in the wrong thread.
Even if I agree with what you're saying and the points you're making, if the way you say it is too disruptive then it's out.

I'd much rather remove a handful of idiots than close the entire thread.

To that end I also remind people that they can use the Report button if they see something that concerns them. Only the moderators see who filed the report and that information is kept private, so there's no need to fear repercussion. Even if the mods disagree, there's no backlash.
Unless you're obviously abusing it in some way I suppose.

If you're not sure about something, my PMs are always open and you can also contact me through the 8WR Discord.
