Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

But the initial release of Tekken 7 wasn't designed to be the final release, while with SC6 there's no indication they'll be doing anything more with the game once the season pass is out. With Tekken 7 everyone knew they'd eventually do a console release with more content.

Tekken 7 arcade was already solid enough either wise people wouldn't still pay to play it in arcade even after 2 years. Of course it haven't things like Story mode and such cause it was Arcade designed. But it was still a "new fighting game release".

I think I would be okay with an alternative universe where Soul Calibur 6 was in arcades first as that would have meant a longer development time..

You sure you know what you're talking about? you would be okay with SC6 releasing 2021? Definitely not me at least. And i'm sure i'm not the only one here, people here are already crazy hype to get the game with less than a year after announcement, so i wouldn't imagine how it will go if it's the same with X3 laptime.

Only 2 new characters also seems a bit silly.

It's really not a bad thing they focused on more classic fighters than new characters, it also make sens because of SC6 story being a reboot like. And 2 fully new characters isn't really that bad, and those are new new no replacing anyone in the game.

Geralt can also be considered as a new character too, so it's 3 new characters, just like SC3 and more than SC4. SC5 had more but we also need to consider that most were replacements.

I'm already starting to seriously like Geralt with all the recent footages, i hope they be able to bring him back in the future in a way like Kratos with Aeon.

I agree, I just want more variety in character styles and more females :D.

Additional guests will make a bigger splash and help this game far more than any returning popular characters could
Yes, that's the case, but I still egoistically don't want guests in a season pass.
Because I never played a guest character more than once in SC, just out of curiosity (this may be different for Geralt, as he seems very fitting in SC, have interesting fighting style and is CaSable), and then never touched them ever again. And as I plan on buying deluxe it would be pretty dissapointing to have a full pass of guests instead of Setsuka, Hilde and ZWEI (i perfectly understand that he won't happen anyway) whom I actually want. I won't mind one guest as necessary inevitability, but full pass of them would be terrible. And having a lot of guests in second pass is not something I would be very excited about too, if at all.

Not counting guests: III had Tira, Zas and Setsuka; IV had only Hilde and Algol; Broken Destiny only had Damp; V only had Pat, Viola and ZWEI (not counting "replacements" and mimics). Also considering the banking on nostalgia, restricted budget and time and amount of content available in the game it's more than okay to not add more than 2 newcomers.
When I realise Tekken 7 has 40+ characters and 22 stages:
When I realise that after 3 years (and presumed developement that started as far as right after T6) of Tekken 7 "arcade (moneygrabbing) testing" we get a broken online; strory that has only like 3 unique exciting story-relevant fights and boring ass irrelevant literallywho mumbling as a narrator of all others; all of the cast except for like 3-4 characters being uninvolved with it and getting joke endings after 1-fight "episode"; customization that is worse than even in 5 (a game where it was first introduced); no single player modes to play; 25$ season pass with only 2 characters, free-mobile-app-tier game mode and "100+ customization items" all of which are either alternate textures for costumes already present in the game or generic underwear that already was in TTT2; we were promised with "free legacy characters DLC"... which then became a second season pass; we got a free DLC costumes this summer... except most of them were already in the game since day one and already worn by bots in treasure mode; oh and a treasure mode, unlocking something by random in a paid game is cancer; also all of the new characters have 2 to three times smaller movesets than returning ones.

For me SC6 looks awesome an all fronts (despite little shortcomings of having very few stages and not having a few characters I wanted, which would probably end up in DLC anyway), you can't change my mind.

I think it's okay, but I still think the game would do better with more, even if it meant not including a less popular returning character.

I'm specifically thinking of what happened with Tekken 7. TTT2 and Soul Calibur 5 were both released the same year (SC5 released a half year earlier). And even with an arcade release the console version of Tekken 7 got released one year earlier than SC6. I would have been very much okay with those two games switching development schedules. Of course, even better would be SC6 being given a bigger budget overall with no arcade release so they could go all-in with the console/PC version.
