Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

So basically between the YouTube videos and the checkpoint video the entire story mode leaked
Yeah, super dissapointing that the full story has like 3 cutscenes and takes 30min to beat. Bamco hyped it up to be fully rendered but it's like SCV's in that it's almost all text boxes again. At least the individual stories are at least 15 minutes and include cool lore.
You can't use your Libra of Soul character in any other mode, only your CaS character can be used in other modes.
That is retarded. I can't think of a single reason you can't choose to transfer it to CaS at any given point.
do we know in CAS if it's possible to switch "hand dominance" for the weapon style?

one thing I don't like about Raphael's style, for CAS purpose, is that he's left handed and I prefer my characters to be right hand dominance.
Dominance requires changing lots of move properties. All horizontal moves that track one way now have to go another, meaning the balance is completely fucked up.

Did they ever say the story will be fully rendered? I don't mind the layout and like you said has good lore and story for each character.

Well I had a lot of fun during the beta only a handful of matches had lag and I managed to play against all the available characters although I only went up against one Siegfried during the entirety of the beta probably ran into Nightmare the most. Can't wait for the actual release so I can actually go into training mode and really learn how to play.

Sigh. I feel a bit left out because I don't have a PS4 yet so I didn't get a chance to play the beta. However, I did have a good time watching people play the game and that was good enough. Also, 19 more days!!!!!!

Input delay, search filter sucks, some characters needs debuffed, RE needs a limit, maybe a practice time doing a search, less clothes explosions or just tares and hopefully it sells so it gets a better budget and team the next game. Cause it's 2018 there clothes should not be in the air etc...

So which mom and pa shop wants to break release date for me

Is there input lag?
Yes. I had a lot of fun playing the beta, but it wasn't great from a technical standpoint. Matchmaking must have been broken. Even when searching at the same time as a friend, we would never find each other and the matchmaking could take 5+ minutes to find anyone. And every single match I played had at least a small amount of noticeable input lag. It was bad enough that I felt I could never react to fast lows. And then I'd occasionally get a match with so much stuttering or such high input lag that it became practically unplayable.

Do you think we'll get numbers from the beta?

Probably; when companies do betas or pre release demos like this they like to announce numbers as a form of promotion to stir up hype either by talking about downloads, players, or matches fought.

- I don't care for reversal edge. Soul Calibur should be a free flowing game i shouldn't be punished for having the ability to put pressure on my opponent. On top of that the initiator does damage, gains meter and wins when you choose the same option after the first clash, a rock/paper/scissor tool is now the strongest option in a fast paced fighting game? Why should i lose a match based on RPS when im better than my opponent?

- Input buffering is fucked up. I lost quite a few matches - one to sonic fox because my character jumped instead of sidestepping. Other times i put a 66 command but a 6 comes out instead, please use the same buffering system as sc5, the shit thats currently in the game is hot garbage. This also worked in my favor, there were quite a few times that i pressed buttons before or during a ce animation and my character still blocked the ce.

- Bring JG back. If you're going to dumb down the game with RE, allow skillful players to be skilled and JG ~ punish.

- Netcode. This is an odd one. The game felt decent for the most part, its only when you're getting hit by slowass sieg or NM lows, that you see and react to with ample time, that you realize that something is off.

- Half the cast is good, half the cast is OP. There is a blatant cheese gap, while characters like Soph, Mitsu, Xian seem as good as they've always been, you get super buffed up characters like yosh, ivy, NM, sieg and you wonder what the fuck they thought would be great about giving some characters buffs and others get nothing. Kayane said it best when she commented that she wished xianghua had recieved new tools like other characters.

- Soul Charge. This may be premature, but im unsure if this is balanced. It seemed like it wasn't worth the meter for the time it was activite and the moves it allowed me to use with Soph, i'd much rather use the meter on a CE. However you take fucking Groh and he has a 50/50 low/mid mixup in SC that does 1/3 your health. That's pure garbage.

- Grab system. This shit is fucking wack, on top of not always getting my 4a+g because it sometimes came out as a+g, there is no reason they couldn't make soul charge 6a+b+k and left a perfectly fine grab system the way it was. It's just weird and i don't think it's good for the game.

Overall, the game was okay. if im being honest, i'm dissatisfied with the additions to the game. I'm not pleased with the character balancing, some characters tools seem like they were designed for sc5 and others for sc6. I give it a solid C as it stands.

Guard Impacts immediately breaks (and reverses) the momentum of the game. Secondly, if you consistently lose your REs, you're probably not better than your opponent.

jG is godawful (bring a completely new set of frame data, has an non-intuitive input, graphically chaotic with the glowing, also encourages static defense instead of active movement).

Not bad for a beta
