I said it in the general thread, but in Voldo's story theres a jobber who has the same voice as Hwang. So it's not looking good for his chances at all.

But at the same time though, confirming more characters mean better advertising. If they had more than 21 characters, it would be more beneficial to actually tell that to potential buyers. In an advertising point of view, declaring more than 20 characters would have made more sense than strictly saying 21 characters but they instead decided to tell us the truth.

But if the extra characters are clones or semi-throwaway, then it might not matter.

Regarding the guest characters, I kind of noticed a pattern for how they choose guests.

SoulCalibur II
Namco was responsible for publishing a Spawn game called Spawn: Armageddon and working with Todd McFarlane to create Necrid and figures so it made sense to add Spawn. Link was promoted to be a version exclusive so it makes sense for Nintendo to provide him as a way for the GameCube version to sell more copies. Cloud from Final Fantasy was intended to be the version exclusive for the PlayStation 2 but a deal with Square Enix fell apart so Namco settled for a character they own instead with Heihachi from Tekken.

SoulCalibur III
Dante from Devil May Cry was intended to be the guest since Namco provided Capcom an engine from SoulCalibur to help with the development of a boss fight in a Devil May Cry game but a deal fell apart and SoulCalibur III ended up with no guest character.

SoulCalibur IV
Darth Vader and Yoda from Star Wars became the guest character for this game. I'm not sure about how the game ended up with Star Wars characters but I assume that they were added alongside The Apprentice to promote Star Wars: The Force Unleashed which I'm not sure what the connection with Bandai Namco is.

SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny
Kratos from God of War is the guest character and was added since people complained about how the Star Wars characters made no sense. This game is also a PlayStation Portable exclusive so it made sense for Sony to provide a guest character.

SoulCalibur V
Ubisoft was responsible for publishing SoulCalibur IV and SoulCalibur Legends in Europe so it was easy to make a deal for Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed II to appear in SoulCalibur V and a good way to promote the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Revelations coming out a few months prior to the release of SoulCalibur V. The Soul of Devil Jin is also added for character creation since Bandai Namco owns both SoulCalibur and Tekken and is a good way to also promote the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 that will release at the same year.

SoulCalibur VI
As we all know, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series is the guest character for SoulCalibur VI. Bandai Namco is responsible for distributing both The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt in Europe and Australia. Recently CD Projekt Red and Bandai Namco made a deal to publish the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 in Europe.

With this in mind, it appears that there is a correlating criteria that is met for a guest character to appear.
Platform Exclusive: Link (Nintendo), Kratos (Sony)
Publisher Relations: Spawn (Todd McFarlane), Dante (Capcom), Ezio (Ubisoft), Geralt (CD Projekt)
Bandai Namco Property: Heihachi, Lloyd Irving

The Star Wars characters came out of nowhere so it's possible that we could see characters out of the blue. Console exclusives are a bit unlikely unless Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft decide to fund it because I doubt Project Soul would eat away budget to develop for an exclusive platform. With all that said, it makes sense to expect a guest character to be from a company that Bandai Namco has an established relationship with or from a game that Bandai Namco owns.

Using these facts, these are my predictions for possible DLC guest character for SoulCalibur VI:
  • A Dark Souls character which could be Artorias, Solaire, or Ornstein since Bandai Namco has publishing rights to them
  • 2B from Nier: Automata due to fan request and the fact thatBandai Namco has worked with Square Enix in including Noctis from Final Fantasy XV in Tekken 7
  • Dante as a way to promote the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 and the fact that Bandai Namco and Capcom are frequent collaborators with Tekken X Street Fighter still on the way.
  • Kazuya from Tekken since Bandai Namco owns the character and can be used to promote both SoulCalibur VI and Tekken 7

Thanks for your analysis.

There are many games coming out that they can pull from.

I think 2B and Dante are pretty high up there chance wise. I think they could use a Tekken character but only as a back-up. Maybe if they decided to have a second or third season of DLC. Bandai is also releasing tons of lower grade fighting games as well as higher grade ARPGs, so they can easily pull from these examples. Considering though that Okubo made it seem like they were still in discussion, I think it's highly likely that it won't be a Bandai IP, or it would have been already decided.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they pull a character from Cyberpunk 2077, but there would have to be some time travelling lore associated with said character, assuming they care enough to keep the timeline similar. I could also very well see a character come from a non-bamco fighting game. One thing I didn't see in your possibilities though is the character coming from a TV show or movie, which I think is high considering Negan in T7, and Star Wars in previous games.

Whoever it is, I hope they bring something interesting to the table. As accessible as the Dark Souls characters are, a lot of them use weapon archetypes we've seen, without a whole lot of extra flair to draw on.

I'd love to see someone from Castlevania, but that would have been a better choice for the base game given its proximity to Season 2 of the Netflix show and the Symphony/Rondo rereleases. A Belmont with a whip and subweapons could have been cool. Shades of Ivy with the whip, but without the transforming weapon.

Trevor from the show would be a really good choice, I think. His design looks like it would translate well to 3D, and fit in easily with the series. He uses a whip, a short-sword, and throwing knives, with the potential for other sub-weapons, giving him a neat multi-faceted style like Hilde or Ezio. Plus he's got a sassy attitude and a charismatic irreverence for just about everything.

Hmm Castlevania, i might have an interesting suggestion from that series...

I personally think SOTN Alucard would be the best choice for SC6 especially if the English voice actor is Robert Belgrade, he's definitely my top pick from the Castlevania franchise.

His main weapon and abilities risk making him feel like a vampire Raph retread though.

Plus Konami has never had Belgrade do Alucard's voice in any games beyond Symphony, and even rewrote and rerecorded the dialogue in the PSP version, which is the version used in the PS4 rerelease.

Honestly, with a bunch of fan favorites and long time characters absent in the base release, the announcement of another guest character would irritate me. It's one less slot towards a character that people would actually want, or a wildcard character from the franchise to show up again (highly unlikely but stuff like Olcadan, Rock, the bonus characters from IV).

I just wanna randomly point out that this is very false. Someone spread this rumour back in 2005 but very few people bothered to do fact-checking. The rumour claims that a producer called Hiroshi Yamaguchi said in an issue of Shonen Jump that Capcom gave Namco rights to use Dante in exchange for Capcom using SC2's engine in DMC3. The problem is that there's no indication of someone called Hiroshi Yamaguchi ever working at Namco, no one found this article in Shonen Jump, and there's no sign of assets for another engine in DMC3.

Well howdy do. It did strike me as a curious proposition, given how extensive his combos are, and his use of rapid fire guns.

You know what’s scaring me the most right now? I’m fine with Aeon being absent from the DLC (since I’ve well adjusted to Seong Mi-Na as my new main), but if he does show up, I’m really concerned he’s just going to be a lazy touch up of the generic lizardmen in this game. Which is horrible to think about given the lizardmen in CaS are just the lizardmen models from IV. Here’s to praying that doesn’t happen if he’s revealed...

But yeah, my current wishlist for DLC is
-Setsuka
-Hwang
-Cassandra
-Rock
-Lizardman
-Amy

Yeah, from a visual design perspective, him just being his SCIV self but with different colors and no frills--as we've worryingly seen in the art--would be very disappointing.

I've suggested it elsewhere, but if they want to take the lazy route, they could use his model in SCV as a base so he at least looks distinct from the other lizardmen. Just trim the feathers and whatnot.

That's almost every standard characters to make the roster perfect (you forgot Hilde). The addition of Yun-Seong alongside Hwang would be cool though. He can keep his old moveset but with a different weapon to differentiate himself from Hwang. He could be given a one-handed Korean Sword, which is visually closer to a Japanese Katana than a Chinese Sword, instead.

A reworked Li Long is also something I want to see. It would be cool to see him use a bladed three-section staff. As for Aeon, I really hope they give him a good mix of his SoulCalibur IV and SoulCalibur V moveset. He could use Dual Ax to further differentiate him but with his lizard stances and unique Lizardman moves from previous games.
