Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Well, that's a lot to digest:

  • Far be it for me to be the first person to chime in with critiques among the jubilation, but I am a bit concerned about what I see with Cassandra, vis-a-vis the concerns we've been discussing here in recent months about whether they will have taken her further away from her down-and-dirty roots to be come more comical/salacious. But at least we don't have to wait long to find out what we've got here. Happy to have her back, regardless, but I hope she isn't as much a needless re-engineer as Amy. That opener is certainly interesting. I'm sure it will keep Dante and Tres busy with speculation for a while, but even I am left wondering--is this this how the story will veer off course from the original narrative? Not Zasalamel but rather Cassandra traveling back to her own body at an earlier point in time, determined to spare the Alexandra family its fate?

  • Haomaru. Well, putting the elephant int he room subject that Vergeben called this correctly to the side for the moment, this is a surprise regardless. I expected that a SamSho character could very well be a guest down the line, but I would never have guessed they would go with a character who so massively overlaps in aesthetic with Mitsu. I'm sure he'll play plenty different enough, but I will say, it strikes me as an odd call.

  • Four characters instead of six, meaning we can pretty much be all but certain now that the "data leak" was a viral marketing gimmick (and one they didn't ultimately show strict fidelity with). I feel a little vexed by that, after sticking to my guns for so long that a second season pass would certainly be four characters (three returners and a guest), only to set that call aside in the face of the codenamed six. Anyway, I do hope this foreshadows a third season pass in a year, so we truly get the band back together (the SCIII:AE cast, plus two new characters, plus four guests would make for one of the best rosters in franchise history). As to prognostications as to who the remaining three season two characters are, I'd say the smart money is on Hwang, Aeon, and Setsuka.

  • Two new stages is certain great news. I missed the stream, so I'm not sure if that was part of the official announcement or just something pulled out of observations of the trailer. Even if we're just seeing variations on the existing stages, that is something. But I hope its an area they are paying more than lip service to, because this remains one of the most critically underdeveloped areas of the game.

  • Overall, a great announcement, and pretty much confirms the longstanding belief that EVO would be big in this regard, though I continue to question the strategy of sitting on top of the information as they have, for as long as they have. Props to SSfox and whoever the other person was (Sytus? I can't recall) who have been insisting for months that Cassie and Season Two would be paired for the reveal--credit where credit is due!

I’m not saying I told you so, I’m just beyond Excited that these moves project soul just made is going to put Soulcalibur on the map like it’s always deserved to be!
We’re WINNING! :D

I hope they actually try keeping the momentum now since they announced all this at once.
Soulcalibur deserves this attention after all these years and we deserve a game that will actually live for a while and not just year.

Does this mean SC6 takes place in the alt reality Cassandra is trapped in?

So Cassandra is the only one from the original timeline?
Yes, its based on the mobile game!
My assumption is going to be Cassandra has traveled to various realities and Broken Destiny was probably one of them, though regarding the mask they may have a more serious counterpart to some minor elements from Broken Destiny in this timeline since I think that mask comes from there.

Judging by the way she behaves in the intro, I'm going to guess its a possibility that in each timeline Cassandra can merge with her equivalent?
Though its highly speculative of me.

But based on Cassandra’s trailer are they telling us she’s been in Astral Chaos all this time!!!!!!
like Raphael defeat Nightmare in Amy's trailer..

@Rusted Blade
I'm so glad I didn't stop being a delusional ho and anticipated S2, for once I actually wasn't pessimistic for once in my goddamn life!
Despite how they sexed out Cassandra I hope at the very least she is serious by nature of plot. I don't mind her being sexed out, although I didn't expect her body to get such... An upgrade.

Also the stages shown was the forest at daytime (it looks like the day one in soul chronicle art)
and I checked again with the other, it seems to be a nighttime version of Kiliks stage with a potentially breakable fence.

Apparently a new stage per character also?
I think @genghis_chan posted that?

Well, that's a lot to digest ...

No kidding!

It will be both. Obviously Zas is going to change some things. Cass will just have a more narrow and personal goal than he will.

As moving parts among the static ones go, I'm personally glad that there will be one such mover with more personal stakes -- could make for a more satisfying series of developments than Zas's presumably more clinical approach.

So what's the implication of the story bit?

What I got was mental time travel, where Cassandra goes back in time and is her old self, but with her future memories intact, in order to spare her family the fate that befell them. It's definitely something in that area.

Thoughts?

I mentioned weeks ago in this thread about the plot of astral chaos time traveler Cassandra, it seems that is canon.
So this Cassandra is herself from SC4 I'd imagine.

What may happen is that each timeline she travels to she merges with her equivalent there as its the only way for her to have a place?
judging by the BR references too.

I'd imagine her SC4 identity is most intact though, since in the mobile game mentioned she knew Sophitia was not her Sophitia.

I'm going to guess due to the nature of how the games transpired Amy, Raphael, Cassandra and Zaslamel may all share an arc of sorts.
It also explains Amy's leg scar, it never happened in the past. It happened only here. Kind of adds considering that she doesn't dance anymore.
