Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

That's actually really cool that we have people trying to help and spice things up in the community.
More traction for Soulcalibur is always better.

That's cool.

What will become of 8WR if this takes off?
I imagine 8WR will stick around honestly. It would only be killed off if the site started having all the same things as 8WR and being constantly updated.
Which, I suppose we don't know to what extent this will go.
There's still the discords which could be attributed to 8WR being less active than it could potentially be, which in the end will apply to new sites too.

I doubt the site would murder 8WR though, if anything it might help with its popularity in some aspects.

Apparently this is the trend with many websites. I don't know why, I think Discord is a load of garbage to use.
I mean, I'm not happy at the prospect of either site dying really.
I love Discord, but it does bug me in some capacity as there's a level of being separated on the discords thus some people that could interact don't.

I probably use the forums more than I use discord for SC, I find it kind of important for Soulcalibur to be somewhere a bit more open as a means of the game being everywhere rather than isolated alone on a discord server also natural promo.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in the discords and such. If the site also got a few more updates consistently it could probably bring back some attention.
I mainly just use discord for talking around with friends and such.
I really like the forum format too, so its a bit of a pity..

I'm creating a new timeline for the SoulCalibur franchise. One where Raphael never lost his idle animation.

By the way, it is crazy (and very convenient) how things have basically stayed the same between games. How did I accomplish this in SC4 after doing it in SC6? By doing the exact same steps. The moveset format is the same (well, except for endianness being reversed) and even the animation IDs are the same.

It didn't stop people from interpreting that other question from that other interview as a "confirmation" that we could/would get SoulCalibur IV and SoulCalibur V characters, and yet here we are, without any of them.

Now that, if memory serves was a little different. Mostly because i think Okubo was at least willing to speak about that in a complete sentence rather than the flat, one word maybe answer we got this time. I also thought it was obvious he was referring to possible additional season DLC, not the current one.

I dont even get how people can just assume new characters will instantly be a hit. Why? Just because they're new? If the design is ass, then people wont like it and dont tell me they dont design ass characters. The very fact we are arguing weather or not they should discard unpopular legacy characters only proves this point. If they put Groh's or Asswel's ass on DLC, i would not buy it.

Is it rude if I advertise my stream again as I cycle through more character animations?

Edit: Stream done. Most of the animation files in 4 are a LOT cleaner than in 6, so less crazy stuff to be found. I did find some funky stuff with Vader and Apprentice though. Oh, and Hilde has a bunch of Cervantes moves.

A couple of highlights of animations I found.

High-level Raphael fencing:

Ezio learns a new move for his crossbow:

It's pretty clear Namco used to be better at cleaning up the animation files. I find very little placeholder stuff in general in the older games. Vader has some Mitsurugi stuff and what looks like early versions of some animations (definitely the most interesting find in SC4). Apprentice has a bunch of Yun-Seong stuff. Hilde has a bunch of Cervantes stuff. Other characters I tried had very clean animations files.

I briefly tested SC5 (which doesn't run well in an emulator, unfortunately). Pyrrha has Sophitia's idle hidden. Ezio has Mitsurugi stuff.

Also briefly tested Broken Destiny, and Kratos has some Yun-Seong stuff (Namco really likes to use Mitsurugi or Yun-Seong as base for guest characters).

Also very briefly tested SC3 (I'm surprised the exact same method works in that game too), but not enough to find anything.

It definitely seems like 6 is the game which has the weirdest animations lying around. I think I've done enough animation snooping now, but I'll try to make that video highlighting the weirdest stuff one of these days.

If it depended from SC fans this game would be a date simulator, not a fighting game..

Or a hentai game...the way some people dress Amy and Talim in creation sometimes makes me think this game is just collecting data for a pedo watchlist

I forgot how much better Setsuka's idle stance was in SC3. To me, it looks more natural while the SC4 one looks kinda awkward and stiff. I really don't know why they changed it.

Idle animations are important for conveying a character's personality. SC4 Setsuka fits the archetype of a calm and colective but deadly Iaito user much like Ukyo from SamSho instead of the free flowing and somewhat carefree stance she has in SC3. This is all fine but the angle of Setsuka just doesn't work for a fighting game camera angle on the left hand side. I think they could bring back her SC3 stance as Setsuka at this point in time doesn't have her heart filled with revenge. I personally want her SC3 stance back as it's way more aesthetically pleasing to the camera angle in game.
