Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I still don’t get why Li Long was completely removed

Concept art shows Li Long transforming into Maxi so it's most likely they saw Li Long as obsolete.

The true question is why people here don't make a bashing thread for Yun-seong like Nyte dit it to Rock.

Probably because it wouldn’t lead to anywhere since there’s really no evidence to confirm/de-confirm of the remaining vets for DLC. That linked thread being a nice example of such (and an example of someone looking foolish over poorly justified boasting from a nonexistent “victory”).

I still think middle spot is gonna be a free Edgemaster update at some point, it just makes sense to have a mimic in the center of all of the connected lines.
I feel like they might give us the parts to make Edgemaster in CaS rather than add him to the roster. I also think that we'll be getting a new/reworked character select screen with Season 2.

The only way I see this happening to have Edgemaster as a free character is if PS add him as an Anniversary gift. As parts for CaS maybe; we would probably get more free modern pieces. Soul Calibur VI isn't getting the same treatment as a mobile game like FE:H.

I don't see "shows Li Long transforming into Maxi" in that sequence of images. There's one image in there (near in the sequence to the final Maxi design, rather than at the opposite end) who just happens to have a wide-brimmed hat that vaguely, kinda-sorta looks like a hat Li Long wore in one of his multiple designs. I wouldn't say it says much empirically about how they viewed Li Long (or for that matter, how this entirely different development team views him today), other than what we have known all along: they chose to create a new nunchuku wielder character design for SCI, and in most games since, they haven't decided to spare room for both. But notably, they did do so in SCIII, the game with the largest roster to date (even if we use the comparably smaller AE roster), and it's notable that once season two has dropped, this game will have equaled SCIII:AE's roster in size, and if there is a third season, it will surpass it.

So I don't think there are any firm conclusions to be drawn here, specially since Li Long has shown up as a playable character after you suggest devs decided he was "obsolete" and has been a part of the lore of this particular game already. I wouldn't say he is a shoe-in exactly, but if there is a third season pass (and I do think there will be) Li Long is probably more likely than not to be included.

I very seriously doubt we'd get him in that half-hearted manner, if we get him at all. The effort to program a mimic is so trivial in the grand scheme of a game's development. For that matter, the time it takes to program a character who loads a random style each match is trvial even when compared against the amount of time it would take to create even the design for a character. In other words, if they decided to take the time to build the design/art assets for Edgemaster, such that they could load them into creation, I don't see why they wouldn't go that tiny little extra distance to add him to the menu. They'd be going through the effort to create (presumably free) content for the users and then, in essence, partially hiding it so that they didn't get full credit with the fanbase that they would otherwise get with an inconsequential amount of extra effort. It just doesn't add up to me. I'm by no means certain that Edgemaster will be included in any capacity, but if he is, I suspect he will be a free mimic very much represented in the select screen.
