Aeon using his lizardisms from SoulCalibur III-IV alters the Sophitia/Cassandra formula enough as it is, so that plus extra differentiation flair that SoulCalibur VI has been doing would make that qualify without resorting to Kratos things. Li Long and Hwang were quite differed in SoulCalibur III, especially Arcade Edition, to the point where it’s baffling that they didn’t make it into SoulCalibur IV like Amy did, so they’re definitely passing the grade for a new character Azwel. Rock is the hardest sell, but I really believe they can pull it off if they really want to, he can make Bangoo proud!

I don't know much about the "files" he is referring.

What I do know that I checked and Hwang & Setsuka's ID where visible at the start of Season 2 in November 2019 in the part of the code that manage the Character Executing Funtion, so already before Haohmaru's release, and in this order :
  • Hilde
  • Unknown (appeared to be Haohmaru later when he got released)
  • Setsuka
  • Hwang
And I didn't find mention of other characters, neither before, nor now. However I only checked IDs, and didn't know how to browse thoses "files"

I don't know if there ID's where showing previous to that, so only somebody with the previous version of the game can check it.
 
I think it will be the same as Amy's announcement, they will launch the Setsuka trailer but the date will not be released.

Though I'd be a bit uncomfortable with it, I might have to agree if you compared Hwang and Xianghua on B tier of clones but saying that Hwang and Yun-seong are as similar to each other in the same tier as Rock and Astaroth in terms of moveset is something I strongly disagree on.

In terms of character design and weapon, I'd say that Yun-seong is the direct successor to Hwang to the level of Cassandra and Sophitia. In terms of moveset however, I see Hwang as having more similarities to Xianghua.
