Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I'm so happy, finally the long wait was worth it! Setsuka looks so beautiful and amazing! I can't wait for this Tuesday to try her, to find out her new moves and to re-brush my Setsuka skills! And also I will be back in Create a Soul forums with new creations and costumes for Setsuka!

If we do get to play as Shugen Kokonoe, I have a feeling his Iaido moveset will be a stripped down version of Setsuka's Parasol. I don't think we will get it as a optional weapon, but nothing is impossible and I'm sure with enough feedback Project Soul might put it in just for those that want it.

If we do get to play him (which I doubt), I think his moveset would be similar to Alpha Patroklos.

Here's some things I noticed from the trailer:
  • Setsuka does not seem to have a background emblem in her art unlike everyone else. Just some random-looking clouds.

Its got a moon emerging from the clouds, and the lower end of the clouds is showing snowflakes and snowfall

  • Rejuvenated face is not in line with her usual, very adult cup size

lol i think this is the only time the key art by kawano is actually more modest than the in-game model

  • Shugen wears same Haori, so unisex?
looking forward to this as well

did you see that? he's not using an umbrella. So Setsuka will have at least one iado in her weapon selection!
Ok, sorry to be Mr. Pedantic, but this is about the eighth time I've seen this particular mistake in nomenclature used here recently and it's about to make my brain explode if I don't point out the distinction! :) "An iaido" is not a thing, nor is an "iaido sword": iaido is the martial practice devoted to the technique of unsheathing and sheathing a sword (usually before and after--and ideally, seamlessly with--a strike) itself. It can in theory apply to the use of any kind of sword, although as a historical matter the actual traditional Japanese art of iaido was/is practiced with a katana (or wakizashi, tachi, ect.). There is a kind of (typically blunted) practice sword sometimes referred to as an 'iato', but here again, the sword doesn't need to be of a particular type, form, or morphology: it is typically in the form of a katana, but technically any sword would be an iato if it were a practice sword utilized in the pursuit of iaido.

So, what Setsuka's master is using here is not an "iaido" (which is a concept), nor is it an "iato" (which would be a probably blunted sword used primarily for practice in iaido and some forms of kata); rather what we see in that video is merely a katana that may have a straight edge (sometimes called a chokuto in modern parlance, although this is a bit of an anachronism as 'chokuto' actually has a more complex traditional meaning in both technical and historical terms). Anyway, I'm not sure its presence in a couple of frames of video confirms that it will be available as a CaS item. I certainly hope that is the case though. I'm a little guarded about the possibility considering some of those parasol animations though and how prominent it seems to be not just in many normal strikes, but also the CE and and intro/exit animations. Fingers crossed they just decided to ignore all of that and leave a non-umbrella'd version in anyway, knowing it would have big CaS functionality.

That little bit of gratuitous nit-pickery done, I'll add my voice the chorus of those who like Setsuka's redesign: it's certainly more drastic than I was expecting, but considering it seems to tie into her story thematically in several respects, and given we still get at least one of her classic outfits, and considering that the new look is just basically really slick, and adding the possible CaS uses in on top, I have to say I'm all for it.

On another matter, I've been trying to figure out what to make of the promotional phrase in the trailer "discover newly coordinated looks". Is this just an awkward Engrish construction saying that there are new custom parts beyond those being separately enumerated in the trailer? Or does this wording hint at some other new feature regarding some of the CaS content? I will say I like the notion of the return of the Tiger Lily Armour (I think I am remembering the name right?). That will be useful in recreating some older designs--always something that will be appreciated be a few older CaS fans.

You know what you need to do :sc1ivy1::sc1ivy3: :sc2ivy1: :sc2ivy2: :sc2ivy3::sc4ivy1: Kappa.
Hahah, I know, I know. I honestly have already started, from around when the writing began to be on the wall a while back. I seem to be spending a little more time with CaS than serious play of late, but I promise when I do play, I will main her: I'm a man of my word! Especially as regards bets set on my own over-confident terms. :D It's actually not as terrible as I was anticipating: it's been like close to a decade and a half since I last put any serious time into her and I'm finding that she plays so much more smoothly/less techy than my previous experience. Of course, I knew to expect this to some extent from what little experience I did have with her in in SCV and SCVI, and from the way people have described her during her slow transition to simpler stance utilization and comboing, but it's even more pronounced than I expected. It also doesn't hurt that she's pretty top(ish) tier. :)

Each time i rewatch the trailer, can't help but laugh at the Tekken costumes, i wonder if there are people that legit are excited about that, even me as a Tekken fan i lol at that.

Tho there seems to be some cool CaS stuffs, and who know with magics tricks some people will again find a way to make the content stands out.

I'm glad Setsuka is back! I'm happy for her fans! Plus all of the rude, ungrateful ones can finally shut the fuck up about not having her now. Kappa I like how her new costume might be designed around her story events (?). I had been hoping her default costume was going to have a more elaborate geisha-style 'do, but I think the messier look suffices. At least we have her SCIV 1p hairstyle as an alt!

I cringed when I saw the "Tekken themed Cas parts." That's just cruel. We all know Tekken gets more love than SC from Bamco. Way to rub it in our faces.🖕

they actually spent about 10 seconds advertising the Tekken CAS parts (which is actually a long time for a trailer)
Heihachi's outfit might be the only one that could be not anachronistic. I wonder if his goofy hair and facial hair will be available, or we'll have to make them with special slots.

For more involved CaS purposes, it might actually be more useful to have them be fully customizable, even if it does mean taking up ExEq slots. Kind of depends on what you were doing with them, of course, but I can see a lot of potential in a scalable, moveable, orientateable mustache and/or spiky hair object.
