I've dabbled a teeny little bit. :/ What do you think of my raph, Angelic? Mostly I "bait" (read as spam) 44B. I thought he was kind of an interesting character, what with SG damage and all...
Also, yeah. You guys sound like Jaxel. "Our transitions get beat by everything" "Mixups are for high tier characters." "He was only fast when we were looking at SC2 previews" and the like.

Don't "Not try Raphael" seriously, all the player games I win, I constantly get complimented, the other time I get kicked because they're all vader/apprentice scrubs, and the other times when I get MY ASS kicked my competitive players, I'm still complimented because most know if I cared at all about winning I woulda picked Amy.
When you win with Raphael, it's extremely satisfying. He's got alot of weakness's, but his strengths make it where intelligent players(which most Raphael players are) can always do tweaks and adjustments in order to pull out victorious.
Also it's the "little things" about playing Raphael. I was in a room of full of black guys earlier, as soon as they all saw me pick Raphael
"OH HELL NAH HE DIDN'T.......::LAUGHING in background, guy picks maxi:: Raphael man I NEVER UNDERSTAND HIM ::other guy:: FUCK HIM UP ::other guy:: be careful man he's fast yo he's sneaky blahblah"
and after the first match(me slaughtering him) he said over the mic
"WHO THE FUCK IS DIS? THIS PRETTY BOY ASS THINK HE'S ALL BAD NOW. (2nd match starts I do prep SEA B Prep A Prep BBB:B, all hits)
"OOOOOOHHHHH WE GOTS TO GET RID OF DIS MOTHA FUCKA" "pretty ass"
6 matches later of nothing but shit talking and me texting a few times saying smart ass shit back, they say I'm there "boy"......
...I don't even fucking know these guys....
I don't have a mic sadly but I was laughing my ass off. You don't get any interesting feedback from playing characters like Mitsu and Kilik, because everyone sees them constantly. Raphael players are a rare breed, and they get treated better.

He's not good but he's also not trash. If he was then I wouldn't play him no matter how much I like the character. You can see in my posts that I owe my hardships to both the limitations of my character as well as to my lack of experience of match ups. I would never blame raph for all my problems because he's by no means a bad character in my book, just not good. All players have to make a choice when they pick up a fighting game. They can either stick to the top roster and experience the game that way, or they can choose to do their own thing and hustle. If you are the former then you do not want to pick up raph. If you're the latter then play raph if you think that's the character you like.

Raph is just so highly dependent on your ability to read your opponent. I mean, he steps well and has some excellent TC moves and can shift ranges pretty well. What he doesn't have is the ability to just force the game to be played the way he wants it to be played. A lot of the time with Raph you're reacting, especially once people work out Prep, whereas with someone like Amy you're basically on the front foot the whole time. Heck, with pretty much all of the "top tier" characters you can force people to play the way you want.

Well, I am attracted by the "lol I owned ur face with a bad character cuz you don't kno about it"ness brought up by Beloved (see my character choices minus Cervy), but I took him to standard ranked for a quick match today and he seemed to have too few tools to, well win. And quite possibly too few tools to be fun to play. I dunno. I played some X nub who started turtling after his little prearranged attack sequence failed. I ate his chest after spamming 236B and prep A+B. Those fell super punishable though. I dunno. Does anyone want to have a match with me?
Edit: I mostly used 2A, 3B, FC 3B, WR B, and 236B. I also used 4B, 1BB, 1A, and 22_88A~, but not as much.

try that top 10 raph movelist.
22, 44B, 3K, 33K:B, 6K and even 33B are moves that you should consider throwing out once in a while (that u didnt list). I also like 2K as a low poke..because with 44B not a lot of characters will want to try to counterattack after u thit hem with a NH 2K. Remember 2K does more damage when hit at long range (14) vs close range (12).. unless i mixed that up.

Raph has a lot of tools that are ok; unfortunately, for people trying to learn Raph this can be very frustrating since an exceptionally strong understanding of what moves do what, and how unsafe are they and will 44B AGI 2A after this move are all really important things to know.
Unlike top-tier characters who can rely on a handful of moves, Raph really needs to use most of the moves he has in order to do well

WUHT: Oh yeah I throw out 33B once in awhile. I've seen the thread, these are just the moves I like best. 2K? I guess I'll give it a try. I've only played Raph against some X noob and Angelic.

SC4 is balanced aside from Hilde RO and Algol Bubbles. So no problem with playing raph. He just has one particular weakness (no tracking moves) that makes you turtle a bit more than you'd normally want. And of course that means you have to revolve your game around your opponent, thats really inconvinient for tournament play.

don't worry.. picking up raph is tough, because almost every thing he tries to do has a exploitable weakness, and proper application of his movelist through experience seems like a good way to get better with him.
