CALI REGIONALS!! GET HYPE!! aftermath

lol at one point during a tourny match i was getting pissed cause i couldn't do iGDR...then i realized i was playing cassy. thx shamuramura.

epic fire code violations ftw.

Congrats to everyone who placed. It was good to see a wide variety of characters and styles played.

My favorite matches of the tourney were the ones with Alex J using his Amy. Among other things he did an excellent job at connecting 33B most of the time he tried it. If he added the two JF attacks to his game, I'm sure he'd improve even more.

Here are the brackets for those who want it, little messy though.

Is it just me or is the image not showing up for everybody else?

Congrats to the placers!!

It should be noted that these Norcal guys ALLOW ALGOL YODA AND BONUS characters in their tournaments!!!

If you want your community to be as good and cool as theirs, then do the same!

sorry but i think this game is done

keep playing the game though... you'll be the only one hopefully

btw, not taking anything away from cedric's win he is a very solid player but watching him throw out only 2 moves repeatedly without any consequences whatsoever is ridiculous... regular hit mid launcher, 1/2 life combo, not only safe on block but advantage, ring-out from center stage, crazy range, auto-gi, instant death, etc.... no other character has anything like that not even close. 100x worse than steve's infinate T5... 1000x worse than t4 jin.

yeah and nevermind the fact that those moves have the easiest visual cues in the game. aGI that shit.

Hey folks. Tourney was a beast. Good look to rick on helping set it all up along with Denjin for hosting it. Had a blast, NorCal got it in but it isn't over yet.:sc2mit1: 5th wasn't too bad but I got more work to do. (Will post up shoutouts later.)
Edit: Bob: Whatever you were on that day, can you bring extra. You made nightmare look like the Anti-Everyone.

If I was in Cali for maybe another 3 or 4 days, I might have tried to make my way down there for the hell of it. Pity I was in the air, getting back spasms from trying to sleep in economy seats.

cedric is a very good player i agree, but i definitely believe the difference between hilde vs the best character that isnt hilde is still turned into top tier vs low tier. jin and lei in t4 were closer in tiers than hilde vs any other character. pretty much unbeatable when played by someone who knows how to abuse the brokenness.

Look, I respect you guys and everything but really... unbeatable? This stuff has been going on since SC4 came out. First Algol, then Kilik and now Hilde. I understand she's a really good character but she is far from unbeatable. Yes the risk / reward is in her favor most of the time. This is the first time many of you have even seen Hilde in action at a tournament level of play, of course this is going to catch people by surprise. Aris did very well for having such little practice against her, and if he played me on a regular basis I can guarantee the matches would look differently than they did in the grand finals.

This kind of attitude is really discouraging and makes me wonder about the people in this community. I am one of the first to admit that she's top, but that is no excuse to act like this after you see me play in person for the first time. Step your game up and learn to deal with this stuff. Get in a lot of practice, know what charges and how long it takes to get each one, know that when a B attack is used I don't have a B charge ready and so on. Maybe if Hilde becomes (Yes becomes, she's not dominating everything and it's still early in the game life span) Super Goddess tier then maybe we can start going down this road. Even with the "Cedric is a skiled player" clause in front of each post it's starting to wear thin.

I think I'm the only one not afraid of Hilde.

t.O took down Algol

t.O took down Kilik

t.O will take down Hilde.

Well im not gonna go as far as to say ban hilde, i dont really agree with any of the previous bans but "dealing" with it may be easier said than done. Yes its true that people haven't really played a good hilde or any hilde for that matter around here in socal and if we had some practice agaisnt her we might have a better understanding of her but even hearing from some of the norcal guys... they dont really have an answer to hilde either.... the only way a hilde player would lose is if they make too many mistakes, whereas, the opponent loses if they make just 1 mistake. I think "dealing" with hilde may be a moot point. I am mostly a tekken player and seeing as how i "deal" with the bullshit in t6 i have been a pretty patient and open minded guy but after seeing that stuff from hilde... it makes t6 look like the most balanced fighting game ever. btw, if someone can "deal" with hilde consistantly against a good or even an average hilde player that knows what they're doing then you are a machine.

M0Tempest actually uses her and got creamed easily vs. Hilde. Isn't Alex J also from No. Cali? He didn't come close to escaping her insta-win juggles either. It all comes down to reward vs. risk. Everyone gets hit by a solid mid or an auto-Gi every now and then during matches; it's just that Hilde's reward for doing so is tremendously greater than anyone else. That's where the problem lies. It reminds me of the old joke:

Man: Doctor doctor! My arm hurts when I move it like this!
Doctor: Well don't move it like that.

Getting hit by a power mid is acceptable in any other match up except vs. Hilde. Focusing simply on not getting hit by one -while limiting your own potent offense severely due to her strong step and punishment - is too far out of balance. An opponent whiffing a GI attempt or getting a move evaded (SS or hop over) gives Hilde a good chance at ending the round right then and there. That's too much of a reward for unpunishable RO attacks with range and auto-GI properties that lead to possibly 100+ damage.

News flash: Alex's best anti-Hilde character is... ALGOL. Guess what this lame community did with him? Also Link uses stick Hilde which is quite abit different from pad Hilde, this doesn't even take into account that fighting against your own character without any prior experience is rough. I learned this the hard way myself.

If anyone wants to quit the game because of this feel free, but I stick with what I said earlier.
