I'm guilty of defecting to SC3 simply for Crispin Freeman Siegfried.

sorry man, its not about avoiding viola or being too lazy to learn the game. i played sc4 everyday because i liked it. from the first time i played sc5 i didnt like it. on xbox live i had 3 friends tell me that they returned the game the very 1st day they got it. sc4 was a natural progression of the series but when i played sc5 and tried mitsu and ivy and saw that half of their moves were gone, i was pissed. who in the game comunity asked for this kind of change? and dont forget the missing characters. also, just cause people like me criticize the game, it doesnt mean we dont support the series. we just dont like the changes in sc5. can anyone here honestly say they are okay if sc6 turns out just like sc5? because thats my nightmare. also, guard impacts have been around a long time but now the use a meter. lameThe reason why everyone is dropping this game is either because A. people dont show up to tournaments or B. they dont want to put the time in to learn how to beat Viola which i think is the worst excuse in the world to drop a game. If marvel players were able to beat pheonix, wesker, morigan, foot footdive and all the bullshit, then we can do it. If a bunch of clowns can put so much hard effort and time into some completely ass game we can do it for a good game. This community just comes across to me as lazy and it really saddens me because i love this game. Also, I don't think anyone remembers the days when a game came out, and that's it, no patch. Everyone should just shut the hell up and deal with it. It's not that hard to work together to develop tech. Oh wait, it is because nobody gets off their ass and goes to events or has sessions for this game. Again, this community comes across as lazy and it shows that there are things in this game that to 80% of the community is "broken" but doesn't win tournaments.
As for me? Am I "defected"? I guess to an extent. I want to be a top player in this game but it's so hard to find motivation when every time I look at this site there are people complaining about shit and when I show up to a tournament I'm sometimes literally the only one there entering Calibur. Sure, I myself can even make it out to more events but it shouldn't be that the only tournament people in NY/NJ/PA show up to is Jaxeldome. There are other people out there TRYING to support our scene but people just don't give a fuck. The only time I get to play really is online and it's not satisfying at all when you know that your win record, rank or whoever you beat online means jack shit as far as who you are as a player.

ok, i see what you mean. part of the fun of competing against other people is figuring out how to play. your right, some guys who complain are people who mash some buttons, and then expect to win the fight. and even though sc5 in not my favorite sc game, as soon as i fix my 360 i'll probably start to play it again XDyes a lot of people do feel like that but they aren't necessarily sc5 players, rather sc4 players. they just straight up don't like the game, which is fine. im saying for people who actually DO play sc5, a lot of people just complain all day about shit they can't beat instead of looking for answers. i do understand your point though.

Yeah...I think it's a case-by-case basis dependent on the individual. Most won't respond positively to coddling, being given the opposite(e.g. triple perfect them and say "figure out how not to suck next time"), and trying to gently nudge them into doing the footwork on their own is just as likely to fail. We can't know ahead of time what method an individual will best respond to and have the highest chance of getting them to start figuring things out on their own, so how can we know the effort won't just be a great big waste of time?
tl;dr I like the idea, but I don't think it can work.
holy shit people actually play this game. that's amazing. I thought I was one of like, five.Castlevania Judgement
Start a club at school. Post flyers. Probably best to call it a fighting game club at first, so you get people who are at least interested in the genre, but maybe not SC, to show up, and then introduce them to SC. This way you start a network of people that you can start having tournaments with.As an aside, to all the people who said to go out and build a community in your area: Any advice on how to begin approaching that? I would love to build a local community near my school/help maintain the Dallas community, but this is my first true competitive fighting game and I don't really know where to start :/
