Kayane's Video Interview with Tago-san!

As you know by now, Kayane had some hands-on time with Soul Calibur V at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. In addition to the chance to be the first person outside of Namco to ever play the game, she also managed to snag an interview with the producer of the Soul Calibur series: Hisaharu Tago!
In the interview, Kayane and Tago talk a bit more specifically on Namco's future interest with the tournament community, including patching, arcade editions and how they will try to listen to the players. Tago also specifically calls out Hilde's "Doom Combo" as a point of shame for them in Soul Calibur IV. Kayane asks a lot of specific questions about returning characters: Tira, Maxi and Voldo.

Also... if you look carefully at the video, you can see 32 slots for characters!

Tago-san said that they're still tweaking Tira when Kayane asked about the self-damage issue...
I'm sure they'll fix it...if not, then it probably wont be much of an issue on the game release.
I am a lil disappointed that she still has split personalities, but I suppose that's what attracts so many players to her since she's so unique.

They're waiting feedbacks from players to know your thoughts about Tira.
If you would have prefered to play her without random, or without losing life in Gloomy stance, then you can say to Daishi Odashima's twitter your thoughts.

They're still in development and they didn't have time to work a lot on Tira right now. So don't worry. :)

Looking good SCV. I liked the look of Zwei but I really want to see Patroklos in proper action.

I'm glad you enjoy the interview !! Thank you for the messages. :)

It was such a nice meeting. Project Soul is definitely too cool. :)

Agreed, they seem extremely cool and intouch with their fan base and their fans needs! Also the fact that he said that Hilde was an embarrassing thing for the them, for me, that just showed me how cool the soul team really is. It's no mystery that Japanese people are very prideful, It was nice to see this mentality coming from someone who is Japanese! I like it when people are not typical!!!

This is the thing i am most worried about with this game.

The guard Impact trips me out a little also. It has been the same (more or less) since the 1st and we adjusted to it and I do believe it is intuitive the way it is now!

Making it more accessible I am thinking/hoping that this mean that certain moves that difficult to do will be removed. (and thats it) Which is fine whatever, I can play SC4 and beat someone with strategy over crazy combos any day...So...

I've already said this in the Tira forums, but the random and self-damaging mechanic can stay now that there are brave edges that use meter. You can use soul guage on powered up moves that guarantee a stance change or do not deal self damage. The self damage aspect isn't as bad now that meter is introduced, especially if they keep the bonus 1 level of meter on every match point.

Ah, so Soul Calibur will also get continuous balance patches. Sounds good to me. And I'm glad they are working to make their netcode as good as poosible, since that's really important for fighting games imo.

Now all that's left is the announcement of Seung Mina and I will be the happiest :).

hilde looks flashy as fark and zwei is looking awsome as usual new thing that were shown with him are
-he can create block strings with EIN and can a 3 hit combo before haveing to launch the opponent
-what looked like his 1a is disgustingly slow
-he has a low combo starter that takes meter(the stomp), also looked like if the opponent stays down after a combo it'll pop them of the ground so you may still combo(tech trap mixups!)
-Ein can do GB attacks
-Zwei GB doesn't knock down

god i want zwei inside me no homo
Not arguing. I'm curious how you can tell that it forces a fallen player back up? or are you talking about bouncing and juggling?

Great interview Kayane. It's good to hear that they're concentratin' on makin' this game good with a long competitive lifespan. Hopefully this wish'll actually come true.

I hope they revamp Tira. It would be cool if they made a deeper differentiation in her personalities fightin' styles, and make them both equally viable to use instead of her GS bein' way better than her JS. Maybe they could make her JS more like her SCIII iteration, and fully revamp her GS moveset? I think her life drainin' gameplay could stay...but it should be coupled with life regeneratin' moves a la Yoshi.

I hope "Kenny[:sc2maxi1:]" plays more like his SCII iteration. That was his prime to me. He had good moves and way more fluid stance mobility than he has now.
I thought Maxi was best in SC3. My fav Maxi costume was the one in SC4 which was based on his 3rd outfit in SC1. Also, Tira was great in SC3. my fav costume there too, her first one. actually, her 2nd one had a nice goth/harley quinn attribute. Anyways, I thought that the only thing that improved in SC4 was Tira's personality (-ties). I had a blast going thru her bi-polar disorder. But no, it was a bad idea to make her lose life. I mean, even still, that's the price of serving evil, isnt it? Aside from that, her random stances didn't bother me. it was like a game unto itself. And her speach was hilarious!

ZWEI is shaping up to be a button mashers delight.
Well, you know what Tago said, "more accessibilty". That phrase has been worrying the F outta me since this whole thing started. And I think that's what they meant, "button masher's delight". To paraphrase Tago, he said he wanted people to pull off moves that are amazing and stunning without having to do much. My SC is the SC where those players who get to know the system and their character are the ones who win. But I guess I'm a samurai at heart. I'm arguing a matter discipline and focus and wit with a blade in your hand, versus some one else and their boom-stick!

This is the thing i am most worried about with this game...
...Please start some kind of developers blog. Explaining the intent of a mechanic such as Just Guard would go a long way to calming down the community and producing more meaningful discussions. Is Just Guard meant to be a mechanic to stop strings from being used too often? Are frames in SC5 being made to give more advantage on block and therefore you felt that some kind of counter option should be present? Will there be more guard cancel options for strings that will provide a way to not be punished?

Well either way I enjoyed the interview and seeing some of the Hilde changes made me happy. Keep up the good work.
I wish to "like this 50 more times".

Even visually, I am seeing a strong influence from Guilty Gear.

I'm not a journalist at all, just asking questions as a SC fan for fans.
I tried to find questions that would please the most fans possible. If I could, I would have asked so much more ! :p But it's already 10min of interview, it's a lot ! :D
We all wouldn't mind if you were our official journalist! Am I right? No pressure. LOL

I'm happy to see you like the characters gameplay and changes. When I discovered them, I was as excited as you, and I'm still ! After the JG/GI debate, it's reassuring that you like that at least !

I really enjoyed this interview, I can tell you that Tago-san is so nice and friendly, always smiling, and willing to make the best Soul Calibur with Daishi Odashima. We're lucky to have them both as producers. :)

It was such a nice meeting. Project Soul is definitely too cool. :)
Who wouldn't be all nice and smiling and friendly while facing you?!

I meant if the stomp hits grounded it pops them up into EIN's attack the same way it does if it hits a standing opponent, although that overhead looking mid he does to slam them into the ground after EIN's attack visually looks like it will set up for a tech trap knock down so maybe it was a tech pickup.

I might be late, but check out 8:30

Hilde does a 'guard break/critical guage break' (I guess like the SG break in SC4?), and the entire screen slows down, matrix-style. Wow, it seems like they are really trying to make it obvious for new players to punish upon SC5 style Guard Break; it's like ZWEI sits with his hands in the air for like 2 minutes. If that doesn't get the point across, I dunno what will [^__^]

i beleive the hilde player still missed the garenteed hit, although is it just me or does it look like that BE move she follows it with is a unblockable GB.

Guilty Gear.
