SC5 'Ivy' Story/Possibilities/Speculation

I want them to fix Ivy's Gi's. The Wp A+B has potienal it just needs a longer Gi window and possibly a faster one. Also 6A+B should gaine track so it can have some use (closer to how it was pre-patch) or they could make how it was in Sc3(Part of Wp A+B).4A+B works pretty well for the most part, it just needs to combo to the second A+B. CL 1A is the worst of all, it needs a slighty longer Gi window and to be able to connect on Gi. On a side note I would like to see the return of CL88/22B to Wp Wr B,B combo from Sc3 this would require the CL 22B to have different stun animation or cause a seated stun(I would prefer the seated stun). What do you guys think they should do?

Guess i should have said what do the other Ivy players think.Lol Speaking of SW 7_8_9B should be the standard 7_8_9B in both WP and CL and the current 7-9B's switch with the G7-9B's since the current one in WP and CL are used sistuational if at all, were as the SW,WP,CL G7_8_9B is more a staple to each stance.

If they decide to go backwards with her look I think Sc3 is where its should go it has a balance between her dominace fetish and making ivy look formidable. Hopefully we get all the old costumes in Cas that way theres more variation. I like the Long hair Ivy.

(.V.) SS and CS in every stance.
(.V.) An "iSS"-version of SS.
(.V.) Different input for SS/CS.
(.V.) Completely different animation of SS/CS.
(.V.) SC II voice.
(.V.) Bring back Spiral Serenade and Spiral Tribute stance.
(.V.) Remove CL stance -> CL-step for SW stance. :P
(.V.) Bigger boobies. :]
et cetera
I Don not agree with different CS/SS inputs, they are hard to learn anyway and in SC2 the input was ridiculous.

Some suggestions:
  • Make sword stance less broken (6{B}/ BB/ 3B/ FC 3B/ 4B/ 6A/ 1K/ 1A/ [A+B]/ 22B/ 22K = broke or just too good)
  • (agree)~give her an iSS (or get rid of iCS, one or the other)
  • Make the first hit of CL A+B less safe, and make it transition into a stance if held down
  • WP 3A = i18/ WP 2A = i16
  • Make WP 1AA safe
  • Replace CL 6B with a better move or increase frames on hit
  • Rethink CL 8WR attacks
These are just suggestions, you don't have to consider them all 1 big change...

  • Not getting why people are asking to ditch CL stance. Maybe opt for a replacement but making Ivy Sw/Wp only would not be Ivy. I prefer her ability to manually cycle 3 stances in Sc4 over her SC2 incarnation that forced you to into stances at certain options like Maxi. Also restricting CS and SS to separate stance is both a balance move and an Ivy staple, they shouldn't be full access in every stance and they don't need to be...I would however prefer iCS in WP mode and SS in SW simply because it compliments the range at which each is trying to fight. SS has shorter range and is not terribly useful in WP mode. It's generally used as a transition from CL or limited scenarios
  • Agreed on iSS
  • Agreed with keeping the current iCS/SS inputs...I don't wanna relearn any more T_T
  • Fix her aGi's. They're all terrible, spare some specific scenarios with WP 4A+B and ending a match with WR A+B.

Ivy's pushback on a lot of her moves seems a bit much. She's also far too fast for the amount of damage and reach that she has. A character that outclasses almost the entire cast in both long range and short range, is a character that's too much. For the love of god, namco nerf her in the next game.

She's not the best character in the game, but still too much IMO.

I don't really believe though that any one of her moves is really overpowered in and of itself, with the possible exception of 1B B+K. I just think people have trouble dealing with all of her gimmicks while under pressure.

For example, Thugish Pond seemed to have trouble dealing with 1B, B+K and 22K recently in Cannes. I noticed that he tried to whiff punish right after the first hit, but you really need to keep 8wayrunning and whiff punish after the 2nd hit. The great thing is that even on hit, the move pushes you back too far to be mixed up by Ivy. In some cases CS can hit, but B grabs cannot, so it's still not a mixup. Things like 22K seem to work better in tournaments as well. I really think nerves are Ivy's best friend.

That being said, I see a problem with the fact that the only real deterrent to some of Ivy's moves is step. Namely 1B, B+K pretty much forces the opponent to start stepping. This leads to mindless spamming. Either nerf the move itself, or do not allow Ivy to stay in CL stance afterward. Force her to choose between either WP or SW.

I disagree about SW stance needing a nerf, I don't think there's anything extraordinary about the stance. That's another post though, one I don't have time for right now. Until next time...

Ivy should be PS3's new avatar.

Range, pokes, CF damage, grabs, big combos, lows, risk-reward.

Ivy, the bitch does Everything (Well a bit too much of everything).

Ivy isn't perfect. She has a lot of pros, but cons as well. Her frame data is poor outside of SW and even then she's out classed by characters such as Amy and X. She has very few good moves with built in evasion, beyond CL214B, 4K, and SW/CL 6A+B. She lacks good lows outside of SW 2A+K/22K/FC 3B (CL A+BA+K is a great mix up tho). She also has a weak block punish game that's often risky if you're using SW 6B9K and get blocked instead. SW is very susceptible to characters with backstep moves.

If I were to nerf her I would fix SW A+B glitch and prevent the glitch that allows us to cancel stance shifts with WP 6B+K2+* and CL 1BB+K. However I would replace it CL 1B with 3 options:
  • 1BA+K does what 1BB+K does currently except and in WP
  • 1B does what 1B does now except make it safe
  • 1BB+K ends with a CL 4B animation and lands you in SW mode
This way she can't spam from CL. To get the good push back she must go into WP, but it works in favor with the range of WP far more than SW as it does in SC4. 1B would just be a good poke. The new 1BB+K would pull the opponent toward you to take advantage of SW's range and create mix ups. None of these would be spammable yet it gives Ivy more control of the scenario.

Buffs
CL 214B should be safe (-10...no JF umbrella bullshit) on counter hit (this move has enough cons despite it's seeming awesomeness...I feel it needs this buff)
aGi's need viable applications
WP 6A+B needs some tracking as you charge or a wider hit box

CL 1B,B+K is already garbage in BD, and I'm guessing that SC5 Ivy will have more similarities to BD Ivy rather than SC4. Same with Sword stance, most of the moves Zombiebear mentioned are weaker (BB no tracking/weak SG, 3B less damage and SG damage, 6A less adv on hit, 1K slower and less range, 1A less adv on CH, A+B with no short UB version, B[2A+K] cannot be buffered etc...)
