Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Also, thank you for directing me to the dlc forum LisaK. Sorry to fill this forum with speculation. But, I do have a question. If I post in the other forum, will many members still see it? I really wanted to discuss this topic with everyone since the Invitational is happening now/tomorrow.
Feel free to post here, just in case you want something specific, there is a lot of speculation about the possible characters in DLC thread, In this thread the subjects change constantly.

Maybe, to some degree, but Cassandra and Amy were so reworked to where they're almost not recognizable to their previous forms, due to their new gimmicks and the general flashiness. I for one would actually hope that Hwang would not get such flamboyancy, because his style is more grounded like Mitsurugi and Sophitia, so I would think it would really require less work overall, unless they just completely lost his animation data from the Arcade Edition of SoulCalibur III. Thanks to FluffyQuack's digging, however, it seems pretty apparent to me that they still have, in-house, every animation that they've ever made, at some place or another.

I think Cassandra and Amy got really cool updates/reworks. Also, yeah, I do remember Fluffyquack and the animations. It was really cool to see those animations still work. Still, I think Hwang would be the more risky/expensive to implement. I only say this because of the direction they may/seem to be going with Hwang: a entirely new moveset ( that’s what it seems like to me. I can be soo wrong about that lol). Why I think this:

+ In the Seong-Dojang entry in SCVI, it mentions a secret underground where only special students are trained. To me, this seemed like it would only include trusted/respected trainees: Hwang and Seong-Mina. After reading this, I really thought Hwang would appear in this season pass. But, this would also require a complete remake of Hwang - with a new move-set. I am not sure if they can do this and Haohamaru at the same time. If they could, my dreams would come true: Hwang would return.

your rebuttals scare me lol
Not really the intention, but I'm pretty rooted in where I've drawn conclusions to and if you've read my posts, you know I enjoy a healthy debate. :sc3hwang1:

The pink slot seems a little different. I actually really wanted to ask you what is going on there. I thought it was just Soul calibur again. But, the edges of the sword look odd. It looks Souledge sharp. But, the top is definitely Soul calibur. If this is a form of soul-embrace (please tell me if I am wrong.
I mean, it looks like to me it's just the image flipped. There is the Soul Calibur (Evil) from SoulCalibur II, and of course the Soul Embrace, but if you look at the source image, you can see that edge of the sword, just on the other side without the image flipped. Here's the season two image so you can compare. In case you didn't notice, Soul Edge is also flipped behind Haohmaru.

I would say it's pretty likely that they were working on Hwang or at least had some Hwang done already, since in-game hints make it seem as if he was originally intended to be in the game, but didn't make it due to time/budget. At least framework, but not any partially completed moveset like Aeon. Haohmaru probably has their own dedicated folks working on him, but that he's the second character and not the first, the first character is probably getting the most work with Haohmaru being on the backburner, or if they really are working two characters at once, maybe that's why the wait's been so long. Not that I expect them to release two characters at the same time, not even a little bit.

Haven’t read this thread in a while. Can someone be generous enough to save me some time and tell me if we’re getting an announcement tommorow or atleast speculation at that event? Thx :)
There's been no official word, nor informal hints on the part of PS as to whether there will be an announcement at the Invitational, other than to say that (as of two days ago) we do know that Okubo will be there. But even before that most recent piece of information, I've been pretty convinced that there would be some sort of reveal--pretty much since they announced the Invitational actually. My reasons for believing as much are laid out a few pages back here, as is some speculation on the possibilities of what an announcement might focus on.

Ahh, ok, thank you! That was bothering me.

Ohh, yeah, I could see that being the case. I don’t know if Project Souls’ team is big enough for this splitting or if this is how dev teams handle situations like this, but I definitely think you have a point.

So then, this means Hwang is still possible : ). Still, I will be cautious. Hilde is still a possibility. I’m nervous and excited for tomorrow!

Well, this weekend is pretty exciting for me. Blizzard announced Diablo IV and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands with more info tomorrow. Tomorrow will have SoulCalibur VI tournament and potential Season 2 announcements. This Sunday will also feature character reveals for Guilty Gear 2020. Man it's a pretty good weekend for game reveals right now.

I do have a question about an opposing theory too. So, some people (Like me sometimes lol) say that

+ Hilde

+ Yun-Seong

+ Setsuka

Are the 3 returning veterans in this season pass. I understand why this could be. But, also, I can’t help but think this creates a problem (possibly). If these 3 return, what popular character would be left to represent a season 3, if it were to occur?

Hwang is arguably as popular as Hilde (possibly?). But, him alone and a guest don’t seem like enough to promote a new season, even with his possible new moveset.

Would a character like Viola be looked to due to her popularity? It does seem too early for her to return, although I think her moveset is cool.

As much as I would like Rock, Li Long, Hwang, and Lizardman to return, I feel as though they would require a significant amount of reworking/redesign. This would likely make implementing them slightly more expensive/risky.

It's speculation, but I think it's extremely likely.
  • The only way Namco has been delivering big news about SC6 since launch has been during tournaments.
  • World Invitational is a big tournament handled by Namco themselves.
  • Okubo will be there.
  • It's been 3 months since the last time we had major news (and the Cass announcement felt like it was something they could have done 1-2 months prior if they felt like it, so they've had plenty time to work on something else besides Cass).
  • SC6 will get a permanent discount (at least in Japan) on the 28th. Season 2 for Tekken 7 started the same day it got a permanent discount. If season 2 for SC6 starts on the 28th, then this is their best opportunity to make a big announcement before then.

Are the finals really expected to last 4 hours?

Yeah and top 8 is not even 3 out of 5. Maybe there will be a panel lol
