Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Well, even I'm not so pessimistic that I wouldn't hope for a sequel to SCVI a little sooner than 20 years! Kappa

All joking aside though, so thrilled to finally get a contemporary VF. That game is going to look and play so sick, I have to imagine: the later Virtua Fighter always had such a gorgeous aesthetic/visual design, but moving straight from seventh generation to modern fidelity is going to do so much for the detailed environments, stylish (but by FG standards understated) character models, and down-to-earth movement style. Rarely feel much of a sense of hype for game releases these days, but this one...

I don't care if people disagree with me, but what I honestly don't want in a new Soulcalibur game:

-no character creation, not even the ability to customize the regular characters. The characters just need all their alternate outfits from previous appearances. Sorry, but I keep hearing character creation just takes away resources and I believe them more and more everyday
-no just-frame mechanics. Isn't Soulcalibur supposed to be easy to play and learn? It's my opinion that high execution bullshit such as just-frames don't belong in this series

And those are my honest opinions

I agree about first part. Even I'm T8 I only use defaults, if I customize it's mostly for recolor.

Second part I disagree tho, but not everything need to have jf, but it's nice to have characters with jf like Setsuka or Lee in Tekken, make them unique and give satisfaction specially for those who enjoy it most.

Hmm tweet is not embedding.

If they are working on DOA7, I wish they would get rid of the 4-point hold system. It makes things too complicated for new players though the old guard wants it. I personally think a 4-point hold system doesn't do the franchise any favors. Even Soulcalibur got rid of the low guard impact and now a single command guards against all attacks. Street Fighter got rid of low parry from SFIII, and in SFIV focus attacks parries both high and low attacks. Same with the drive parry in SF6.
So yeah, I hope they get rid of the 4-point hold system. Sometimes less is more.

I'm hoping that we're in for another wave of non-Tekken 3D fighters over the next 2-3 years. (Not to say Tekken is bad series at all -- I just never could get the feel for it like I could with other 3D titles).

For DOA, I also prefer the 3-point Hold system. DOA has built-in tools to deal with Hold spam like the high-damage Counter Throws. The 4-point system added unnecessary complexity, in my opinion.

Gotta rant about this.

SC6 Sales Max.jpg

Soul Calibur 6 was not an overall failure of a game, it ended up selling okay, but it ended up selling under expectations of what they wanted it to.
Can this fucking outright lie just die. I have no idea why it still persists, but it keeps on happening no matter how many times people have been corrected on it.

SC5 shelved the IP and Project Soul was dissolved because it was a sales failure, only selling around half a million in its critical sales period. SC6 only came back because some core Bamco employees pushed for it. They were given a tiny budget based off the past sales of SC5 meaning there wasn't an expectation for Calibur to sell loads. That means we have a rough idea what Bamco was expecting and given that they celebrated selling 2 million copies and we got a season 2, SC6 was a very successful game sales wise.

I don't know where MaximilianDOOD gets his information from, but wherever it's from the information is an outright lie just on these metrics alone.
