Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Wait, what's this about Amy showing up a Viola? It seems to me that the whole point of this reboot so we can escape SCV's changes completely. And Amy was voted more popular than Viola, and her design is more iconic. Viola's style also just isn't a good fit and I think it'd be better to diversify Amy instead. I just don't understand.

However, I agree that Raphael or Amy should definitely be in, though I was confused by your wording of "Raphael AND Amy." Did you mean "Raphael or Amy?", because if not, both of them being in is the same as both Sophitia and Cassandra being in. I say this because you seem objected to Sophi/Cass both being in if it means Raph or Amy not making it in.

It's just that I assumed that if they put Sophitia AND Cassandra, they wouldn't have and excuse to not treat Raphel AND Amy the same way (and if they put Cassandra but no Raph or Amy at all that would be even worse, to me that would just mean that we lose a Rapier style because of another S&S character, and that would be a shame) , and if they don't put her in then I would be fine with Raphael or Amy. I agree that Cassy and Sphy don't play the same even though they use the same weapon, just as Raph and Amy, or Night and Seig. I put them all in the same basket, it just would be right to put Night & Seig and Sophie & Cassy but no Raph&Amy, it just wouldn't make sense to me.

It's probably just to be able to differentiate her more from Raphael, like someone said earlier, they do share some basic moves like 6BBB so if a new player picks them for a test they would try one or two stuff and conclude that they are the same. At least that's what I think.

Regarding the characters that made their appearance in SC2, providing the story covers that time period to some degree then nothing is stopping them from appearing in SC6

Zasalamel is immortal and operates in the shadows. This is why when I saw him in SC6 I knew he wouldn't conflict with the established lore which is something that can't be really said about the others unless you cover the time period which they appear.
Nothing would prevent some characters from appearing in the series for the first time at a younger age or from being born some years earlier.

The "because it's a reboot of SCI means we won't get II-V characters" is a "weak" argument, since it's a reboot they can do basically anything they want.

Zasalamel arrived in the lore simply because Soul Edge was weaker (he is the one who created SCIII Nightmare), in his quest for Soul Calibur. But indeed, he could make sense in the lore IF they change his backstory, which seems to be the case in SCVI. Raphael could appear in the story at 28 instead of 32, ViolAmy, Tira and Talim can be born earlier too...

Furthermore, nothing would prevent the lore from being changed, Zasalamel is an example again: he is not immortal per se, but his soul is, and he is supposed to reincarnate in new bodies, though in his SCIV ending he is the same guy in the 21st Century.

Let's stop the "because in the original timeline" justification to shut down some people's hope for such or such character to appear. To quote Ezio, with the reboot, nothing is true, everything is permitted.

For one, it's a reboot and thus isn't held to the original timeline. Second, you really think it's just going to be "SCI cast + Zasalamel"? That makes no sense.

No? We still could end up exploring whatever V was going for with later games or whatever.

In any case, it's an scenario people are raising because Raph users want improvements and him getting a bunch of Amy's attacks would be a path to that, and Amy can have a her own style still with Viola's move set (they can still redesign it a bit).

Considering this is a new timeline and reboots are generally made to get out of a bad situation, I highly doubt we're going back to Patrollklos and friends any time soon. That would be the best way to kill all momentum.

I'm still going with that they'll give us the five SoulCalibur V kids's outfits as CaS parts for us to use if we want, but they won't be official characters.

Also a friendly reminder that Tira was officially a Bird of Passage, like, a full-fledged and functional member, at the age of nine (New Legends of Project Soul).

Cassandra and Seong Mi-na are in the same boat for quite a bit of things:

  • Tomboyish, headstrong personalities
  • Relevance in the grand storyline revolving around their insistence on bringing a family member/surrogate family member home (Sophitia and Yun-seong, respectively)
  • Weapon/fighting style shared with someone that is competitively more viable than they are (Cassandra - Sophitia, Seong Mi-na - Kilik)
Granted, Cassandra is just a bit more well-off than Mi-na is in terms of playstyle (Cassandra wasn't shit tier like Mi-na was, but Sophitia was still the better Alexandra), but they've got to rework her story a bit so she's not just a satellite character in Sophitia's storyline.

Cass plays differently to Sophitia and if they want to differentiate more they can give her some Patroklos' moves and a stance where she holds her weapons like him. It shouldn't be too complicated and is a way to make her even more unique. She should also have the move where you pummel someone with your shield from the custom sword and shield moves in SC3:

Visually you can give her a bigger shield as the Alexandra shields being so small was always weird to me. It's also a visual cue that Cassandra uses her shield to attack more than the sword.

Storywise just have her try to beat Sophitia to the sword after seeing how hurt Sophitia was from Soul Edge. Her motivation to protect her family isn't a bad one and shouldn't change. Just change when she starts and how far she gets to Soul Edge (don't have her weapon break on her as soon as she steps out of her front door).
If this game was a reboot of Soul Blade/Edge then there would be no way to include Cassandra without it making no sense. But Soul Calibur 1 already has her family involved with the swords, so it's easy to include her.

Okay, so this conversation has happened so many times it is impressive you people don't get tired of it. I love Cassandra and if you ask me she is not in it, even though both Hayate and Vergeben have sources saying she is a likely character to return, which makes sense she is fairly popular and has been used in almost all side material since her appearance (SCIII and IV manga tutorial, BD comedic story mode, Unbreakable Souls story mode) which makes me think the dev team has a soft spot for her. At the same time, I do think they will be favoring unique styles as well, so I do think Raph will make it in, maybe Vergeben source misunderstood what he/she was told, which is fine leaking information like that, info that you can't say "Oh but it was just common sense" , will always have a certain vagueness to it.

Here is my remaining roster speculation.

-Cervy
-Voldo
-Asta
-Tira
-Raphael
-Talim
-Hwag/Yun(One or the other)
-I will say Cassandra, but I don't think she is in.
-Groh's dad
-Wild card returning character

DLC-
-Guest
-Hilde
-Setsuka
Bonus
-A re-skin, most likely Lizard

We have few slots left, they must be filled with chars who have an iconic own style.
Is that really the case, though? People said the same thing about the builds before E3, only to see more slots added to the E3 build. Why are people basing the final build off what we saw at E3? I don't even think the story-mode screenshot is complete either. It's been evident that Okubo likes to tease and give ambiguous information, like the "Talim confirmation" tweet and claiming SC6 will be the "most packed" game in the series. Chances are he blurred out the names on the story screen, just to mess with followers.

This would be a good time to support your statement. Cassandra was a special char in Smash Court Tennis 2, but so was Raphael.

Cassandra wasn't the destined battle for the most iconic character (Nightmare by far) and none of the guest characters.

Lore-wise she wasn't half-intended to be the new wielder of soul edge before SC3 happened too (this one is iffy).
Lol I suppose you can say she's top 20 in popularity easily. She managed to make the instructional manga for SC4 along with Hilde, so thats something worth mentioning

Right, she made 7th in one poll and 12th in another (both were conducted by SC social media pages). Thats pretty popular in a game with an average roster of around 24.

SCII's top 3 characters that are new are easily those 3. Yun-seong is a pretty unpopular dude lol

And they STILL made you unlock Sophi in all of Cass' appeared games. Lore wise she doesnt play a big role but then again...Mitsurugi is just a guy lookin for SE, who never finds it.

We know Lizardman's in the standard game in some fashion due to the story image of him, he's not going to be a DLC bonus.
There is literally no way we can say that, Dampierre was in the game in some capacity back in V, didn't stop him from being a DLC character.
