Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

@Psykai -- It just really doesn't make any sense for Amy to be playable, story-wise. Some other characters can be given playable status more freely, if their stories were more open, but Amy's is pretty locked down. For now, she's just an orphan girl in the slums, without any sort of combat training. She doesn't get trained up until after SoulCalibur II, where Raphael trains her to be able to fight for him as he fights for her, after realizing that perhaps he can't do it on his own, since he defeated Soul Edge, but still lost, so figured he could use some backup.

Sure, sure, DLC could be less-than-canon inclusions, but in that Tira is getting a Soul Chronicle story, it sets an expectation that the other characters would also get story, too, which makes it seem like story would still matter for the rest of the DLC characters, too, so Amy just doesn't seem likely to be playable at all, not until SoulCalibur VII. But that doesn't mean that we won't get our fair share of Amy in Raphael's Soul Chronicle. I'm sure we won't be disappointed, finally getting to see Amy's origins proper.

...don't some Lethal Hits have armor break as their special reward? It seems odd to me then that armor breakage would have no gameplay repercussions. It must do SOMETHING.
Maybe it was the plan, but it couldn't be implemented? Or maybe it's just to "look cool", I don't really know.
Imagine if Raphael's only gimmick is his move that breaks all armor.
And then it has no effect beyond the visual xD
It still looks pretty cool, though, and could be seen as a neat Zorro reference. I like the attack, even if it doesn't offer any real advantage. But his Soul Charge was said to open more evasive opportunities to him, so that's not his only gimmick. He's gonna be stylish and dancey and it's gonna be great. It just kinda sucks that his base stance isn't the one where he's actually dancing. At least we'll still have crouch dance, since that never went away, because they probably forgot it existed.

You'd think they'd make Mina's hair long after an armour break, so that it looks like her braid unravelled or something. Having the braid just fall off like a hair extension is kind of weird.
But you don't understand, if they did that, then they would have to actually implement a long and flowy female hair style, and we certainly can't have that...

I mean, with Tira getting a story mode I would assume other DLC characters would too. So, they could always extend the timeline for DLC characters. Amy could be DLC and have a story set in 1591, the timeline can always be extended with DLC so I wouldn't say she could only be available in the next possible game.

Could be fun going through a bit of her training with Raphael as story. Father/daughter time. Get to see them together and their relationship grow so we come to care more when things start going bad.

As much as I'd love to play her now, I see her more coming into her own in seven. That said, I want her now cause of fear of no seven. If seven was guaranteed I'd be just fine to accept the beginning of their story told now with her too young to be playable so that we can explore their relationship at this stage and see it grow in seven properly as she gets trained in seven fully coming into her own during the end off her story in seven where she forced to fight for real using her skills in real combat becoming fully playable.

That said, if she never uses a rapier and just skips straight to weird as magic floaty ball I'm gonna lose it. LOL.

yeah, i think there are already few character's chronicles in base roster that take place after the main storyline.

or they could just not put out story content for them.

If they really want Amy as DLC and especially for someone as popular as her that they will know will sell, why completely re-do her from a cost perspective? Same with cassandra. They might just not go through the trouble and release them with their weapons and general style, with maybe movesets that are altered a bit.

This is pretty much my thought exactly. It's the idea that this is likely the final Soulcalibur game that makes me so miserable and desperate for Amy (and all old characters for that matter). I feel like if it's the last game, we need EVERYONE so that if this is all we get to play for years to come, we at least have the whole stage of history at our disposal and everyone left satisfied, not that I wont' be satisfied anyway since my main Kilik is in, but Amy was my second in IV and I missed her in V.

It's probably really pessimistic to view this as the last game already and I imagine there's a fairly high chance that it's not (if the current attention it's getting is anything to go by in terms of potential sales) but it's like, on the off-chance it's the last one, y'know? I dunno. My depression is on overload lately so it's just getting me down more than it should.

I really hope we get a reveal of some sort soon. I need a pickmeup, lol. The demo thing was nice but with it being leaked early it sorta spoiled the TGS a little since we thought we'd get something extra too.

Yeah! I honestly wouldn't care if Amy was a copy-paste from SCIV with a Soul Charge, CE and RE thrown in. I don't need them to redesign her outfit and fight style. I just want her in, lol. As far as a Soul Chronicle, I can't imagine them being able to come up with one for her personally (which is a shame 'cause the whole 'orphan on the street' thing would really pull at the heartstrings) but I like the idea someone had of her being trained by Raphael for a battle in his story or something.

Anyway, ugh, I'm sorry I'm just like fanboying all over the place. You're welcome to throw up now, I might do the same.

After the main storyline, but still before SoulCalibur II. That's the important distinction.

And sure, that's why I said that they could be less-than-canon for the time period, but if we're expecting them to all have Soul Chronicle stories, then it limits our selection somewhat.

If they just release them as they were, without any real explanation, then I'm sure some people would be happy with that, but there's no doubt in my mind that we'll get another SoulCalibur game. If we got another one after SoulCalibur V, there's no way we won't get another one after SoulCalibur VI, which looks to be the best game since SoulCalibur III. I'd much rather see them in proper context, personally. A season two might be used for this kind of thing, though, to go ahead and give us a preview of what's to come in SoulCalibur VII, and then we actually get SoulCalibur VII that revisits the stories of SoulCalibur II-IV (since they all take place in the same year), and we'll finally have a roster on par with SoulCalibur III again.

Don't tease me T_T this would be a dream come true. Haha.

If there's multiple realities please let me be in the one where this happens.

@fjaoaoaoao We (Brazilians) have no connection with Incas/Muísca/Aztecs/Maya, they are very different cultures...
I think a lot of people don't realize just how big Brazil is and the distance it is from there to central America.

I find the fact that we are getting a second story mode and that Libra of Souls is described as "another epic tale of Souls... one that will not be written in history books" to be interesting since many possibilities can be done with it. A lot of things can be canonized and forgotten in later iterations of the game such as Geralt making a big presence in that story mode. Because the story of SoulCalibur is described as transcending history and the world, it can be canonized that rifts and portals have been opened to bring in fighters from different worlds and even timelines.

This is where Z.W.E.I. and Viola can come in alongside other guest characters where they could be canonized into SoulCalibur VI without creating contradictions with the other SoulCalibur games that takes place after SoulCalibur III. Instead of linking their Soul Chronicle in relationship to the main storyline, theirs can instead be linked with the events happening in Libra of Souls since we can later on pretend like it never happened just like with guest characters.

I'll say i'm not going to have a lot of respect for this series moving forward if they use "rifts" to excuse the existence of SC5 characters. I dont even think there is a decent chunk of people that want to see Zwei to begin with. Maybe Viola but Zwei? No.

You may not like the characters introduced in SoulCalibur V but the fact remains that they also have fans and players who enjoyed using them and invested time into learning how to play them. Personally, I'm not fond of how their moveset isn't grounded on actual weapons aside from the use of the crossblade and claw. Their actual weapon is a wolf spirit and a magical orb which doesn't sit too well for me but they are nonetheless still characters people invested in. Kreuzgriff is a pretty cool weapon it would have been better if the main focus was on the weapon itself with the wolf spirit being more of an aesthetical addition to few of the moves.
Also better them than Algol and Dampierre I guess since these two got less votes.
