Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Anyone have any thoughts on the "Azwel" leak? There's an anon who shows up now and again in /v/ SC threads who claims to have worked on the localisation well over a year ago, and says the base roster was clear to him from how the game files (specifically the "narrator" strings) correlate to the following characters:

Talim
Tira
Voldo
Astaroth
Cervantes
Raphael (he's confused by the sweating over this and claims that Raph has full narration strings; "he's in there, clear as day")
Lizardman
Seong Mina
Hwang (however, supposedly he didn't have a narrator segment at the time, so he might not be playable)
Azwel (related to Groh, they apparently belong to the same organisation, likely his rival/father and the other newcomer)
He also mentions a bunch of generic strings addressed to the "Player", probably the CaS, and that plenty of characters fight CaS characters (Taki versus some dudes from the Fuma clan, Sophie fights some Malfested; Voldo and Yoshi also have a lot of mook fights).

I take this with a huge grain of salt, as should you, but it's interesting to me and honestly about what I realistically expect at this point. I'm also desperate for Raphael and will embrace any delusion that he's in there...
This sounds believable, but this list would also be easy to guess (outside the name of the new character) and there's no way to confirm the source is real. If this is real, then the guy kinda outed himself by mentioning he works at localization. That makes it a lot easier for Namco to narrow down where the leak came from.

No bull. As much flak and hate Algol gets I would love the idea of weapon materializer to come back in some way. Like if Algol and Necrid had a kid. Any who, a weapon materialization user would be really cool.

Anyone know who Aptaos is?

Assuming Raphael is back, what would you prefer to see: noble Raphael or malfested/vampire Raphael? What do you feel is more likely?

I think it's just the one guy doubting Tira at this point (and I'm not entirely convinced it's not just trolling), now that Talim's confirmed there's no reason to expect Zas as the only later game returnee.

Not that there was any reason to expect that in the first place but there's even less reason now.

I know that a few people want Mina, but I don't think they would add her before adding Cassandra, even if people hate the Facebook popularity pool, it is quite clear there is precedent to say they're, at least partially, using it when deciding whoever is in. 11 out of 14 announced characters are in the top 14, Xian hits at 18th and Maxi 22th, but those are history relevant, which was the way I think they decided the order of release to E3.

Lets say we have 9 characters to go, yes I'm going to be a optimist and say we're getting 23 characters,

Cervantes placed 16th
Voldo 17th
Astaroth 25th
Groh's dad is of course a new face.

Then we get to the final 5 spots that are less certain-

Tira placed 10th Safest bet here.
Raphael place 19th he got a few positions less than Amy, but I think they will give him preference over her.
Hwag's hits at 23th to Yun's 14th, and with Talim back I don't doubt they bring her literal only connection.
Cassandra hits for 12th place and Mina for 15th, Cassandra has also been more used by PS in the past and is the most played character out of the two, the thing is this only happens if Lizardman is not in, in which case I don't think either will make it.
I don't think we will be getting a mimic this time around, they score poorly and they are not wanted by the player base, Tekken ditched theirs and he was actually kinda liked as a mascot.
I feel like the last slot is kinda of a wild card, I stand for the fact Hilde and Setsuka are DLC, but one of them could very well be in the base roster.

The more I think about it, I find that I like Raphael's malfested, vampiric look. True, it is a Castlevania knock-off and will always uncomfortably remind me of Myotismon from Digimon (LOL), but at the same time, I think having a vampire adds a certain amount of color to the roster and is in keeping with other "monster" type ideas such as the zombie pirate, artificially created human, parasitic sword, and the lizard menz.
However, I think pre-malfested Raphael will be in this game, judging from the timeline; or perhaps he will become malfested during the story, so we get both nobleman and malfested forms.
Although, ultimately, any incarnation of Raphael will do, so long as he's in at all! *____*

Ok, look I get that people hang on Verge like some kind of god, and like to make assumptions based on the current builds of the games as shown by the Devs. However, there's still the possibility he's wrong or off a bit on his info, the things we've been shown is their conservative versions of the final product, that the two things on both sides of the roster are in fact page turners, etc.

In which case there may be more characters, more story, and more everything than you're thinking. They just don't want to show or allow hints of too much after the debacle of 5th where they learned the hard way that what they want to do can be screwed over at a moments notice. 5th as everyone knows HAD a lot more content before it lost most of it and was rushed out before it could all be recreated.

I believe they are getting more confident in their product though. They did mention it being the most packed, which it could be. Everyone is so skeptical it could be as packed as 3, but let's be honest here, with modern tech that's really not that hard to do.

So, not restricting to the 22-23 slots and such, what COULD we get if it truly IS the most packed and not just hype?

The slow, gradual descent into madness is one of the aspects I really like about his character and the best way to show that, is for him to become malfested. It also sets him apart from other characters who are just regular humans, which adds more variety. The vampire-like theme suits him well and his SCIV and SCV outfits reflect that. In terms of gameplay, he loses any bite and teleport moves if he's a human and that would be a shame. The playable Raphael should be malfested in my opinion, but I also want the story to show his human self, and what happened before he fled from his pursuers and met Amy. This game is supposed to be a reboot so this is an excellent opportunity to show that.

Anyone doubting Tira is overlooking something pretty important:

Shen Chan, who I'm fairly sure has inside info about the game considering he knew about the release date several weeks in advance, has said she's in: https://twitter.com/jovywithyou/status/1004862962912276480?s=19

Not 100% proof of course, but certainly there's even less reason to doubt her inclusion.
He also said Rock and a bunch of other characters would be announced at E3, but that never happened.

[Q

"Time to sleep" thats a Viola phrase Kappa
NO, GOD! NO GOD PLEASE NO! NO! ..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

... Bamco if you replace Amy with Viola AGAIN I swear to god...

NEVER FORGIVE.

*cough*

No idea who Aptaos is but he's clearly trying to drop a hint :S It almost sounds like Astaroth but I doubt he's making a sound-alike hint.

I already just want to see a build with Talim now. SCVI feels so right at the moment. All the classic characters and just in general it feels like Soulcalibur again. It's gonna feel so nostalgic to finally get my hands on it. With (presumably) 9 characters and 15 weeks until release they can't stick to their 'once every two weeks' schedule, so maybe we'll get a double reveal at some point? Maybe one of the events? Here's hoping.
