Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I just had recently some new sources confirming some of the last unrevealed character that were already leaked by Vergeben. So it wasn't a big deal but since I haven't crossed my sources about all the leaked characters yet it was still a good info. I hinted one of them somewhere ;). Also it seems that the next character reveal is also hinted by Okubo but it's subtle.
Do we know if Cassandra is base roster or DLC?

I'm not one for heavy handed moderation, but I'll say that the following subjects have been beat to DEATH and need to not be brought up again (and again and again and again...) lest the mods cleanse the thread with fire:
  • Raph Vs Amy
  • Lore relevance of unrevealed characters
  • Poll results
  • Armchair game dev complaining
  • Clone(s)
  • Style "uniqueness"
  • Leaks from Reddit/4Chan/Gamefaqs
People find their way here and like you, want to actively discuss and partake in the game, it's not their fault they came late to the conversation, no need to treat them like a pariah cause they want to discuss a topic you already have on a public forum.
Honestly, I think specific topics should start having their own threads at this point. This general thread is at 420+ pages and adds about 5-10 per day. It's really hard to keep up, not just to the pace but also the constant specific subject changing.

But hey, that's just me.

For that to work, the most discussed topics need to be stickied to the first page or they'll just keep popping up all over as, let's be honest, people don't go topic fishing through the archives or several pages back, and they are never going to.

SC4 Talim compared to SC6 Talim

Bamco is about dropping bombs at EVO. No way they're doing a bunch of randoms there, unless someone got heavily redesigned.

Can we talk more about Papa Groh's weapon and aesthetic? I'm curious where people think they'll be going with him.
I hope it'll be as big a bomb as the one dropped at E3.

Oh, wait...
Just over half of the characters in the game so far have their own gameplay quirks that make them unique and are specific to them. The ones we've already seen are:

  • Nightmare obtaining SC-like properties after utilizing his shockwave moves
  • Siegfried automatically entering an SC-like state (Dark Legacy) when at 30% HP or lower + getting access to some of Nightmare's moveset (dunno if this is exclusive to DL or both that and SC)
  • Zasalamel and his curse (still have no idea what it does)
  • Taki and Mekki-maru inflicting insane chip damage
  • Geralt and his signs (at least one of which can be boosted by spending 20~%? meter)
  • Yoshimitsu, in addition to fucking with HP bars, can also drain meter/convert HP into meter
  • Grøh getting screen-wide teleportation in SC
  • Ivy and some rooting shenanigans with her insta-runes
  • Talim gaining a stance (Air Rage) that lets her use wind to boost her attacks
  • Kilik having two CEs, one of which is only accessed by going into his SC (which drains HP instead of meter)
As somebody who loves individualized mechanics (like the V-system in SFV and KI's Instinct and special mechanics), I'm a huge fan of these features. 3D fighters in particular kinda suffer from a "every character plays the same" sorta feeling and these changes definitely help fix that.

Based on those pics I liked her face more in 4 than 6. Some of that might be lighting problems though. 6 seems to be having some kind of weird issue going on with lighting and face features. Like the brightness is turned too high or something causing faces to lighten up, loseshadow detail, and become weirdly flat looking as a result. I really hope this gets fixed somehow.

Pretty sure that makes everyone happy.

I already explained why that's a bad idea, but I will agree that it would be nice to have some moves and stances from previous games back. But I'm not expecting all of those to return, considering Ivy only got Serpent's Embrace back. It would be cool, but it's not really necessary for all his stances to return and in the case of Shadow Evade, it would be detrimental if it's like SCIV where Shadow Evade Beta only comes out after Shadow Evade Alpha. Taking SEA away entirely and changing SEB so that it actually has mixup potential was a huge improvement. Because SEA didn't have a low hitting option either, SEB (the current one) is superior anyway, and you're less likely to get interrupted now that you can perform those moves faster. As for Vurkolak Envelopment, that stance has become obsolete since almost all options have been given different commands.

If the point you're trying to make is that having less stance options automatically makes a character inferior, then I disagree.

I wish I could... There is nothing you can do when you lack the means to travel. At least you're one of the few who knows his potential.

Inferior indeed, it's subjective.

I always advocate for more options, whether some deem them useless or not.
To me it's all about flare, style and the uniqueness a character has.

- side movement
- vurkolak envelopment
- shadow evades
- all variations of preparation

It be great to get these all back, and it's not about what's viable to some, but about having options to tailor your own playstyle and not be forced to play in a way that is only viable to Devs.

Its ok to disagree, but options should be there.

Not me. I don't want Amy I want Amy's style. Doing what you suggest gets me nothing I want. Is why the Raph people are likewise upset at the idea of Raph with Amy's style.

Of course flare, style and uniqueness are important, but they shouldn't hurt a character's competitive viability. To me, gameplay is the most important thing. I have thought of a solution, but it would most likely never come to pass:

Bring back at least three Preparation stances. Give one Preparation stance the ability to move sideways, let the second one transition into Shadow Evade Alpha, and the third one into Shadow Evade Beta. Both of his Shadow Evade stances should have mixup potential instead of just one. And Vurkolak Envelopment should have new moves otherwise it isn't necessary. The moves that were originally part of VE should stay where they are.

Well that's it, give them specific uses, each stance could be a great option for a singular person to play in a specific way, utilizing what they need.

There should be competitive tools and moves used as decoration and flare, but that can still provide unpredictability
