Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I think all they need to do is give her an extremely distinct look. I wanna see her complete design used for that story mode portrait as that looks like a big departure from what Cassandra and Sophitia have had in the past.

And I'll just casually mention that there two characters in the game already with the same hair, same gender, same nationality, related by blood, using the same weapon, and they're even... the same person! But one of them is slightly more covered up in armour than the other one. And you're seeing no one complaining about those two being very similar, despite being the exact same person.

I don't think changing her weapons at all makes much sense. So many of her animations wouldn't work with anything but a short sword and a small shield. If they're gonna change almost her entire moveset, they might as well make a new character.

I think this is all about perception. Give her a unique, distinct outfit. Give her some moves which look extremely different from Sophitia (maybe more moves where she throws her sword or shield). I think those two things alone would shut up most people claiming she's "just a clone."

About the Seig Nightmare I already mentioned that more than once, but you probably didn't see it, I always got the same response from people "Seig Night is justified, it's story so we can have 2 of the same character and there is no issue with that" (no issue with that but any other "clone character" yup that's an issue a big one apparently)

The clone war will never end when it comes to SoulCalibur community sadly, as long as 2 characters use the same weapon or even just the same type of weapon that are welded similarly (Astha's Ax and Rock's Hammer) there will always be this argument (plus the limited roster won't help it because people will keep rooting for their main to come back instead of another "clone")
But even said that I can't deny that Sophi and Cassandra really look similar, maybe because of the gender, hair color and the weapons they have in both their hands, though they don't play the same they really look like 2 characters that are exactly the same especially for someone that will just judge the character by how he looks and doesn't even bother to give it a try. I still remember having a preference for Cassandra over Sophi in SC2 and 3 my first SC games, Sohpi always felt boring to play and slow/heavy as a character compare to Cassy.

I really think they need to do something about Cassy's appearance to at least make her feel more different from Sophi. I mean we all know about the two, but imagine someone new getting into SC with 6 and then getting a DLC Cassi that use the same weapon and have a closeish clothing style as a character already in the game, they will think "the hell is this, a reskin" or "hey it's another version of Goku again xD"

You absolutely did not just get the same response. I know I for example have said I agree that the siggy and nightmare situation is similar and nightmare should have been handlef different as a special malfested version of every style with only a single nightmare variation of every weapon. Would open up more story potential and allow for a soul edge possessed character of every style.

Again what makes a character different is multifaceted and is more than just moves.

Cass: Blond
Sophie: Blond
Cass: Girl
Sophie: Girl
Cass: Greek
Sophie: Greek
Cass + Sophie: Same family
Cass: Small Sword
Sophie: Small Sword
Cass: Small Shield
Sophie: Small Shield

Mitzu and Yoshi: Same weapons and arguably same gender, similarity ends there.

Cass and Sophie need a few less samey boxes checked off in my opinion to differentiate them.
There is a limited amount of hair color options for characters before it gets all anime and weird. Right now we only have Tira and Groh who have unnatural hair color + Ivy and Cervantes?. Making her hair brown or black would make her too similar to Taki, design wise, and would probably look a little weird? Right now she is blonde to be associated with her family alingment. That's why her outfit is orange now, not the iconic blue and white, cuz Sophitia and Xianghua already have that combo in their designs. Look how they changed the color scheme for Mi-na, it's much darker than in previous games.

I find it funny because SoulCalibur is one of the better games when it comes to characters with similar styles. They've went out of their way in each consecutive game to further differentiate characters, when Tekken had exact clones like Christie and Eddy up until their most recent game.

For Cassandra, if the story mode is anything to go by they are definitely trying to separate her from Sophitia with that new costume. I think that the design of the sword and shield is what's needed to do that more. Her S&S designs should be more vicious and brutal looking than Sophitia's, with weapons being more like her spine blade and Ivan the Terrible. Give her some of Patroklos' more brutal looking weapons like Skulls horn and the Dunamis shield which looks really cool.

In terms of moves give her some of Patty's ones and make more shield based in her attacks. They gave Sophy some of Pyrrah's moves, so I'm fairly confident that they'll do the same with Cassandra and Patty. There are plenty of ways to even further separate her from Sophitia without losing the character.

Okubo seemed to be saying at the end of that session with Oosaka and Kayane that they're revealing something before release. I hope it's a big cinematic trailer for button check on character select.
Isn't there a big jap tournament happening this weekend?

So I noticed that the creation slot has tabs. Does anyone know what would fall under customize? Hopefully not alt costumes for characters.

I can't believe Soulcalibur 6 is officially one week away. So far, most of what we've seen has been amazing. It's like it was just yesterday, when we saw Okubo and Harada on stage at the Game Awards 2017 and asked "Does the soul still burn?" with Mitsu and Sophitia fighting. Finally, a new game over 6 and a half years of being in the dark with empty Facebook posts, F2P games, and pachinko machines. I'll be walking from my nearest GameStop VERY happy next Friday

Wait wat!!

Is this a sign Hilde won't be making it in as Astaroth got her doom combo?

On a serious note, um, er, uhh... is that balanced?

I super agree with this. I've always thought SC did a good job making characters using similar weapons really stand out gameplay-wise, especially compared to other fighting games. Tekken has Kuma and Panda, Christie and Eddy, and a bunch of Mishimas. Street Fighter has Ryu and Ken, and a ton of shotos. Dead or Alive has Kasumi and Alpha-152. But if you look at similar characters in SC (Raphael/Amy, Sophitia/Cassandra, Siegfried/Nightmare, etc) they actually play extremely differently with almost the entire movesets being unique.

In the scope of things yes because you will be looking out for it and you can either come out with a draw or win the reversal edge round with the appropriate move (whatever wins against a vertical attack). It's not really that different when watching out for certain throws at the edge of a stage.

The difference/problem is that SoulCalibur IV had enough roster space where their all-inclusion didn't also cause someone to be left out, not like how it appears to be in SoulCalibur VI. It's not specifically a question of if they are or are not unique, but how unique, if we had three sword/axe and shield users, and zero Korean sword users, for example, then something was lost at the price of something far less unique. And if it was some sort of ultra long con, and we really do have far more slots than we think we have, then I don't understand what the point was in keeping us in a mindset of doubt and fear that we would be missing out on something, only for them to unveil a host of new slots and literally everyone is included, it would be like the worst prank ever.

Just got an email saying my order's been packed and is ready to be shipped when it releases, I'm excited.

I guess if shops have their copies in now we may start seeing info from people whose local shops break street date.
From my retail experience usually this how it works. Electronics always arrive the weekend before the week of sale.

Though to be fair, your game might be still in a tapped up box somewhere in a warehouse lol

I just cancelled my amazon preorder, and preordered at bestbuy. They give you an incentive if you pick up the preorder at the store, a whopping $1 off lol.
The free Talim figurine is mailed to you, and has a value of $15.99.
