Soulcalibur VI General Roster Speculation Thread

SoulCalibur VI: which 3 characters do you most hope for?

  • A brand new character

  • Amy

  • Cassandra

  • Hilde

  • Hwang/Yunsung and/or Lizardman

  • Rock

  • Setsuka

  • Viola

  • Z.W.E.I.

  • Other: Abyss, Algol, Dampierre, Elysium, Leixia, Li Long, Patroklos, etc.

Results are only viewable after voting.
It seems like the top choices on the poll are Setsuka, Cassandra, and Hilde.

It's difficult to gauge the Hwang/Yun-seong/Lizardman choice. As it's split between 3 characters we don't know how many voted for each.

Cassandra, Setsuka, and Hilde would be the perfect DLC for me and I'd insta-buy the season pass.

If their priority is entirely on fan demand, that would make the most sense, however i have a feeling that isn't the case.

I think there is a 50/50 chance at the moment that there will be a Season 2, and because of that, they may push some characters out for Season 1 based on immediate financial profit. This may mean moving some originally-planned-to-be-unlockable characters to DLC Season 1 (ie Hwang, Lizardman), some originally-planned-new base roster characters to DLC Season 1, ensuring a guest character comes in Season 1, and/or moving some of the more unique characters but not as super popular based off character poll to Season 2 (Hilde, possibly Setsuka, Viola, etc.)

Based on how well the response has been for tekken, I get the feeling they might just do season 2. I say if hwang and lizard aren’t in the game then hwang and Cassandra and guest for season 1. Setsuka, Hilde, Viola, and Lizard for season 2. Also, if the don’t want to bring Viola back, her style could be CAS only.

So far all the people who voted for Hwang/Yun-Seong and or Lizardman how would you feel if Lizardman simply uses Hwang/Yun-Seong's moveset. Best of both worlds? Or would you prefer a Hwang/Yun-Seong with Lizardman's moveset instead?

Hwang and Rock have been wallowing in obsoletion for over half the series, one whose last main roster appearance and quantifiable, worthwhile appearance was in the oft-overlooked arcade version of SCIII, and the other having lived in literally in Astaroth's shadow ever since Astaroth was introduced to the series. Rock was in SCI but he's not even part of the base roster for VI, so he's unlikely to return to the series. I'm not even too sure about Hwang even being considered for DLC if his one appearance in story mode (Seong Mi-na) amounted to what is basically just a 1:1 redrawing of his SCI appearance, not too unlike Edge Master's appearance in the main campaign.

I'm really hoping that at least one more DLC character is female. Either Cassandra, Setsuka, Hilde, or Amy. Hell, I'd be over the moon if the remaining 3, 2nd guest included, were all women, but I doubt it very much. I mean, I have my doubts that any of the remaining DLC characters are women tbh.

Also, I've been wondering something. I know very very little about how season passes usually work, having never paid them any mind until now, so I was curious if it were common practice to release more DLC outside of the first (or second) season pass? Like, if a game is announced to have a season pass, does that mean that any content included in the season pass is the only DLC they'll be releasing, outside of another season pass?
I don't know if any of that made sense lol

But Edge Master's SoulCalibur V appearance was literally just his SoulCalibur I appearance brought up to speed with today's graphics. It wouldn't be impossible that Hwang gets the same treatment. His Quick Battle appearances in Broken Destiny and SoulCalibur V haven't been drastically different, and neither was his SoulCalibur III appearance.

It really depends on the publisher. Some do release extra non-season-pass DLC, but it's "supposed" to be that you get the following "season" (year) all-inclusive. Sometimes there's preorder-only content (not the case here), sometimes there's extra free content (maybe?), and sometimes there's extra paid content (which, if we get music DLC like the last two games, I could see being the case).

Those were CaS characters though. Why wouldn't he get a redesigned appearance for VI if he was returning as his own character instead of a CaS taking on someone's style?

Mitsurugi, Sophitia, Nightmare, and Ivy in SoulCalibur VI looks the same as they did in the old Dreamcast game except with extra added detail since it's a much newer game that can handle more detail. We only saw a portrait of Hwang and if they showed a portrait from Nightmare showing only his head then one could say that he looked just as he did in the original SoulCalibur.

How many characters will be available in total? With Tira and Inferno 22 characters have been revealed so far. I'm so confused because a few months ago Okubo said that we'll have 24 playable characters and in a more recent interview of him he said that we'll have more than 20 characters in total until the release of the game! This gives me a hope for Hwang and Lizardman, but I'm afraid that Hwang will be DLC and Lizardman will be only available as a CaS character!

Okubo never said we are going to get 24 characters and I don't even think he's allowed to say how many characters there are going to be. The only thing he said is that the character select screen (which contained 20 slots at the time) isn't reflective of how many characters there will be. This is still true since there are 22 characters if you count Inferno who is a bonus boss character that can't be played online and Tira who is a paid DLC character.

The game has been distributed many times already and we should already be expecting leaks if there are any more new characters. Chances are that Hwang and Aeon will be DLC characters. It's quite possible that the Lizardman moveset we saw is incomplete and not really ready to be played. They probably added it there as a sneak peak of the upcoming DLC character they failed to release by launch.

But all those characters already have palpable differences in appearance in SCVI just at first glance. Hwang looks exactly the same.

Actually Hwang portrait is not exactly the same with sc1. I can spot several tiny points:
- Side of the triangle on his headband is reversed
- No button and some shit on 2 sides of his scarf
- His scarf is like sc3 scarf, not his sc1 scarf
- His hair is longer than his sc1 counterpart

But ya, it mean nothing since it's just an artwork. Maybe Hwang is like SF5 Kolin, when they reveal him, they will change his appearance design.

And one more thing: in SC1 Hwang costume is designed as a torn costume. Maybe in SC6 they just make him wear similar to sc1 but his clothes are not torn this time until they are broken like the other ones.
