Spawn and Heihachi Going Multi-Platform for SC2HD!

So we already know that Soulcalibur 2 will be coming to PSN and XBL in a few months; but we never knew the state of the guest characters from that series. On the Playstation 2, we had Heihachi, on the Xbox we had Spawn; and both consoles had Necrid. Would the same be for PSN and XBL? Would these characters remain as console exclusives?

Well according to a report from Siliconera, both characters will be available on both versions! This begs the quesiton, how will this affect tournaments? In the past, they were banned because they were console-exclusives; but now that exclusivity is gone. Since both characters are now available to everybody, should be allow them? Necrid too? Sadly, Link from the Gamecube version of the game remains absent from this downloadable release.

Even if they decided to add SCII HD to Wii U, that doesn't mean Link would be included. Besides, it would be unfair to include him there, since it would mean that the Wii U vision would have 1 additional character over the PS3/360 versions. Project Soul probably wanted to keep the game fair gameplay-wise, hence is why Heihachi and Spawn are being included in the same version and not divided again.

Why create any division at all just for ONE character (a guest at that) when they should all play together? We all know Link can't do that since he's 1st party property. Plus, they would also have to consider adding a new guest to the PS3/360 versions to compensate, which would be a waste of time and money. Link's exclusion was just collateral damage. Besides, he probably wasn't even that good.

Even then, the fact you could just play as him made it sell like fire on oil for the GC version. To say he wasnt even that good isnt a argument. I personally think they could beat the same cash pinata twice if they made a wii u HD version with link in, but if they dont, oh well, sucks for Nintendo fans.

On a somewhat related note, I might do some poking around in the files when the game comes out, who knows, a Link model might still be left in, maybe even a sign of his existence like a unusable style or his weapons may be left in, but since there are no custom characters, I cant see a way to bring him out without modding if he did exist.

But the endless bombardment of questions, fangasms and a possible ban from XBL might be worth it.

Have they said how much its going to cost yet? I hope not the full price, and I hope its a Day 1 digital download.

I'm capitalizing on the fact that players just want him in there just because it's Link and not because the character plays well compared to the others. Apparently, he didn't. It's easy to say "they could just throw him in and get more sales," but how many people actually know about the development process behind this port?

Also, I'm pretty sure the PS2 version outsold the GC version overall. The GC version may have sold more than the PS2 in the first few weeks, but not by much.

Wow looking at the pictures, my brain never put together that both spawn and heihachi were never together!

Deep down I would have been 100% fine with none of the console exclusive characters, if only to make a statement to say that the Soul Calibur series is solid and awesome enough to warrant gamer's interests without borrowing on the image and branding of 3rd party property.

I'm scared that some of the big-wigs at Namco may come to the conclusion that SC2HD only sold well because of spawn and heihachi.

Cash pinata and WiiU never go together in the same sentence.

With all this excitement over Spawn, it seems that people haven't noticed that according to some of these screenshots, INFERNO will now be playable as well. I've actually suspected this since the reveal trailer because it showcased Inferno there as well, and I found it odd to show the boss character in a reveal trailer like that. The trailer also showed Inferno's stage among a quick slideshow of the stages, so that will probably be selectable now too.

Inferno being playable will be interesting for a few reasons:

Firstly, Inferno has a couple of unique moves regardless of which style he uses (in SC1 the input for them was A8 and B8). His unique moves were shown in the trailer so he will probably still have them.

The second thing is, unlike Charade, Inferno uses 3 styles per round because he switches styles everytime 1/3 of his health bar gets depleted. This means that combos done on him that take more than 1/3 health will automatically get dropped in order for Inferno to do his weapon switch animation. I can imagine this will cause some people to bitch and moan about their combos being dropped, and may even unfortunately cause a tournament ban debate. However, there is no confirmation that he will retain this property as a selectable character, it may just be something that he does when you fight him in arcade mode.

Lastly, while Spawn/Necrid/Heihachi will never be mimicked due to guest status, it will be interesting if they also have Inferno mimic Lizardman/Assassin/Berserker since Charade did not. Or even Charade for that matter.
