Japanese offical artbook & guide .. Cassandra, Korean, Setsuka, side story

lol I would buy it... but I refuse to support this. not providing information, adding a really poor artbook to the Collector's Edition (not much artwork in it, character profiles are basically copy-pasted from the official page with all of the spelling errors etc.; it's really bad overall, especially when I'm comparing it to the DARK SOULS' artbook which was basically FREE and has much more content than the SC5 CE one; not to mention Dark Souls had a more or less complete soundtrack in the CE while SC5 had like 5 tracks from the actual game it came with and the rest is from previous installments). I can't read Japanese well enough to want to buy this especially when I'm trying to buy all of the ME3 stuff that's randomly popping up. now, if they published this in English I would be very much interested.

Anyway, Leixia's concepts look a lot like Talim for some reason. That Tira in glasses looks awesome :( Shame they didn't use this concept for her 1P. And I can't believe they didn't do the short hair Sieg and went with the fishface one... sigh.

Here's the concept art with the half naked guys which is for... something. Zasalamel is one of the characters so I guess it was made for SC4.

I got a friend of mine to translate the story stuff about Cassandra. Here's a very very rough translation: Cassandra is mad at some god after she discovered Sophitia's daughter was infected by the blood of Soul Edge, so she goes on a journey to try to destroy the sword. During her journey she encounters Sophitia who refuses to let her continue. They fight and Sophitia knocks her out. When waking up, she's in weird looking place, in what looks like a different dimension. Cassandra finds Sophitia unconscious in a room in the castle they're in. But before Cassandra has time to do anything, the weird dimension environment engulfs her. After that everything turns to normal, and Cassandra is nowhere to be seen.

So yeah. I dunno. D: I guess this is Namco's way of saying "So yeah, we have absolutely no idea what to do with this character, but now we have a way of making her return without aging by saying she was in a weird dimension for a little bit."

Oh, so Sophitia was only unconscious?
I guess both of them got engulfed in the Astral Chaos then. Didn't expect this though, I thought both of them died, Cassandra being killed by either malfested or Sophitia herself.

Oh and that Setsuka pic you're talking about is from SCIV artbook.

I've got no info to back this up, but I got the impression that Sophitia died after the events of SC4, and the story about Cassandra in the artbook is basically her true ending for SC4. I dunno why Sophitia became unconscious though.

By the way, my friend also translated the bottom part of the page with the info about Cassandra, that part explains some details about Sophitia's family. My friend wasn't able to translate this perfectly, so minor details might be off. Basically, there's some spots I'm not sure if the story is talking about Rothion or Sophitia's father.

-Sophitia's husband (Rothion) turned from blacksmith to tool maker because he felt his weapons didn't protect anyone.

-Rothion went to search for Sophitia, but he couldn't find a way into the roman empire.

-2 years later, he became sick and died.

-Sophitia's brother was mad at Rothion for a while for keeping quiet about Sophitia's disappearance.

-He's a baker and he taught that to Patroklos. Sophitia's father is a baker too and that's been their family business. Sophitia's dad died of illness of knowing that his daughter went missing.

And that's it. So yeah, you heard it here first, the sequel to Soul Calibur 5 will be Cooking Mama 6, starring Patroklos as the main character as he continues Sophitia's family business of baking bread!

Actually, that's an amazing idea. I can imagine scenes like...

:sc2rap1:: Hi, I'd like to buy some French loaf.
:sc5pat1:: You look pale... and filthy! NO BREAD FOR YOU! FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

I may help in translating some stuff. Recently bought the strategy guide, but unfortunately still don't have the New Legends book. :( If You are all willing to wait a while (probably around 3 weeks: getting the guide, work and general lack of time, translating etc) I can translate the important parts (translating the whole 200-page book is out of the question, at least in one go).
If you wanna start translating right away, I can take photos of some of the text.

Thanks, but I've already ordered the book.
Besides, It's very tiring translating text from pictures, let alone complicated kanji characters

Hi everyone, I've just found this thread.

If there are people interested in my contribution, please let me know exactly which parts (or which characters) You want me to cover first.
If it's not too much trouble, I would love to know what information (if any) there is about Yoshimitsu in the book. I'm going to order the book myself, but I can't read Japanese.

Actually, the text doesn't really clarify anything, as she's found "collapsed" or "lying in one of the castle's rooms", which doesn't really mean she's uncoscious or dead.On the other hand, the relationship charts (as seen in the pics from this topic) has her square grayed-out, which means she's definitively dead (much like Rothion, Toki and Ivy's parents, all of whom are also grayed-out)

Cassandra's profile is one of the few I can actually make out from the scans, so here's a translation:
Note: The first paragraph isn't a straight translation, as it's very hard to discern most of the text, so I filled in a few gaps and some parts are unfinished. Doesn't really matter much, as it's just a summary of her story in SC2 (aka why she got into all this). Also, English is not my first language, so please forgive any mistakes on my part.

"Sophitia's sister. Possess an unyielding spirit and the courage to even step against the gods without fear. Loved her sister, and was always the playmate for her sister's children, Pyrrha and Patroklos. [?]
The day Cassandra started to fight was when it was discovered that her sister's children possessed the cursed sword's evil. Seeing her sister crying, Cassandra's anger towards the Gods began to grow. Following her emotions, she ran to the temple of Hephaestus, and picked up the weapons of the god which were left there. She embarked on a journey to destroy the cursed sword in her sister's place.

Eventually, she infiltrated the home of the cursed sword, Osthreinsburg Castle. But who stood in her path was none other than Sophitia, who surrendered to the evil sword after her daughter was taken hostage. Cassandra was so shocked, that she was knocked out unconscious from a single strike from her sister.
By the time Cassandra woke up, her surroundings were warped into a strange place. With the destruction of Soul Edge, the Astral Chaos that corrupted the castle began to contract quickly. Dragging her injured body along as she looked for Sophitia, she finally found her sister's collapsed body in one of the castle's rooms. Cassandra rushed over there instantly. Just at that moment, a rift to another dimension opened in front of her eyes. ----Several moments later, the castle's surroundings returned to normal, but there was no sign of Cassandra's figure. "

Other stuff I can discern:
+ Li Long is listed as part of the Fu-Ma now, for those who wanted to know what was of him. His son is given a name too.
+ Lee Shun-Shin (Hwang's mentor and historical korean figure) is confirmed dead, much like in real life (he died in 1598). Han-myeong, on the other hand, is still alive.
+ The square with the korean trio doesn't really reveals anything new. It's mostly a summary of Japan's actions during the series, including the korean invasions of Hideyoshi Hashiba. The text under the artwork says that those who sought Soul Edge are now known as the heroes who fought against the Japanese, and that it's said they are now training a new generation of people to protect the mainland.
+ Can't read Xianghua's profile, but it seems Xiba is in fact Kilik's son. The profile for Kong Xiuqiang explains she gave birth to his child safely, but he inherited the evil aura from him too. Not having a way to purify it, she went to Edge Master for advice, and he introduced her to Kong, reuniting both father and daughter finally. Kong swore to protect his grandson, and believing in him Xianghua decided to entrust her son to him. Also, as a suggestion of her husband Wuxin (I suppose she was depressed over parting with his son), she pays both a visit once a year. The child is not named in the profile, but it's quite easy to see it's Xiba.

If you wanna start translating right away, I can take photos of some of the text.

If you can get clearer and better pics of the text, then I'd be very greatful. I'd love to take on everything, actually, but I don't want to ask too much, so this is the ones I'd love in order of interest, and you can get what you can:
+ All relationship charts.
+ The pages for the missing characters (Cass, X, Taki, Setsuka, anyone else), including the secondary profiles below them (Rothion, Toki, Chie, etc.)
+ Kilik's profile (only one I'm missing)
+ The "Other Characters" page (the one with Frederick/Sieg's dad, Salia, Arcturus and Dampierre's three fellas)
+ Weapon/Style profiles for the ones not on the official site (Elysium, Alpha & Omega, Kilik, EM and Algol)
+ Any of the ones in the first post (the one with Arahabaki or the Ming Empire).

Anything you can provide will be perfect, anyway, so if you can Thanks A Lot!

oh, any info about Arthur and his daughter?

So the Koreans are training newcomers? Li-Long has a son in the Fu-Ma clan? Jeeze Soul Calibur VI I guess you can take my money now.
after reading all of this I guess SC5 could be just raising funds for the next game... too bad it probably won't happen.

I have to go to bed but here's a bunch of text for Kilik. I need to find some kind of good lighting setup for taking photos from the artbook. If it's too dark it's impossible to see anything, if it's too bright it's impossible to see anything because the paper is way too reflective!

This is all very interesting. If they pull through with a new story, and more characters and stuff I'll be happy, even if Mitsu get's the plug. I'll be happy to see more games released in this tale of souls and swords.
