Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

All the games have something they're best at, if you ask me. SoulBlade of course created the franchise, but it had some cool unique mechanics like breaking weapons and fighting barehanded, and the clashing system that became Reversal Edge originated here. It also has Li Long, I feel like that deserves mention. SoulCalibur perfected the formula and is the basis for all the games that came after it, it really didn't have any flaws in and of itself, I don't think so anyway, it's just that if you didn't have a Dreamcast, you missed out. It expanded the roster significantly and added a good number of new ways to play as well.

SoulCalibur II is the one most people are familiar with, since that's the one that went super mainstream and was widely available no matter what console you were playing on, as well as being quite popular for use in tournament play, and has arguably the best offline content. SoulCalibur III is the other half of that argument, while it has some broken gameplay mechanics, it has tons of offline content, which appeals to a lot of people, and it also has the most characters in the entire series, including bringing back Li Long and Hwang, as well as Arthur, if you're into that. If SoulCalibur III Arcade Edition had happened before the home release, SoulCalibur III could likely have been better than SoulCalibur II.

SoulCalibur IV takes a few steps back in the wrong direction in many areas, with by far the slimmest offline offerings yet, and slowed down the gameplay a ton, but it still moved the character customization system forward, even with some missteps that were mostly corrected in SoulCalibur V. SoulCalibur V is the creator's dream, if you love that system, and is the most simplified gameplay which makes it easier to pick up and play, and it has much improved online modes compared to SoulCalibur IV which was lacking and also quite lagtrocious. But, as we all know, SoulCalibur V was very much an incomplete mess of a game and a lot of wasted potential.

SoulCalibur VI has the opportunity to recapture the magic of SoulCalibur I-III in the modern age, though, which is a good thing, and if it's successful, we can pretend SoulCalibur IV and SoulCalibur V never happened and then SoulCalibur VII can actually be all positives and perhaps be the game we all want to see, but maybe I'm being too optimistic. All we can really do is hope for the best, that SoulCalibur VI succeeds, and we keep this train running.

I'll be on holiday during E3, I really hope the hotel wifi is decent enough to at least check for the news and videos here.

SMH seriously what kind of communication is this ? lol

So we will just get those "reserve your copy today" inbetween the reveals? rofl

I love the trailers for SC6, but man Bamco has still so much to learn when it comes to communications, hype and marketing. I think SC6 need an Ed Boon like as a Marketing hype machine for SC6.

Or are they saving everything for the last? Still tho those Character reveal > "reserve your copy" > Character reveal > "reserve your copy" > Character reveal> "reserve your copy" > Character reveal ... ect, not sure if it's the best way to do it.
