Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

It's interesting to look at.

http://soulcalibur.wikia.com/wiki/Soulcalibur_Series_Character_Popularity_Poll

The top 11 people are basically in.

I would not be surprised if the top 18 people are in. It's interesting Maxi made it in being 22nd.

Your thoughts?
If you take out the SC5 characters (only Viola in this case) if the roster were literally just the Top 23, it would be the perfect roster IMO. Taking out the SC5 characters and looking who's at the bottom of the original cast sounds about right too.

I can't believe we're talking about the possibility of Raphael not making it the cut, especially after he was present in both SCV and Lost Swords. Hell, he was a major character in SCII's storymode. There is literally no reason to exclude him at all. You would think Project Soul would learn from that after SCV. This is literally the reason why Leixia, Pyhrra, Xiba, aPat, and Natsu (Yun Seong to a lesser extent) were the most hated characters in the series: they were designed to be clones.

This is just my opinion, but Groh's father is starting to seem like a blight on the roster. From what I've been seeing, there is has been little interest as to who he is and what weapon he will use. Not to get all sjw-ish, but at this point, the roster could use a few more female characters. That was one of the criticisms of SCV's roster and we don't need it here. SCIV had the best gender balence imo. I actually like the idea of Salia as a new character over Groh's father, but not as a replacement, and especially not for Raph.

Speaking of Lost Swords, they even bothered to give him some new animations. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing AAA (3rd hit), 22AA (2nd hit) and Quick Parade A in previous SC games:

AAA at 1:12, 22AA at 5:05 and Quick Parade A at 11:48.

This moveset is amazing, by the way. I know it's broken, but they had good mixups and stance options in mind for him, and it could all be tweaked with proper balancing. I could imagine counter hit 1K and 236B being Lethal Hit in SCVI.

In the case of another character reveal being planned for tomorrow, here’s some food for thought that I just found out while digging for extraneous information.

Tomorrow is June 14th, but it would be the Friday the 15th in Japan...which happens to be Talim’s birthday.

EDIT: Funny note but that birthday would make her a Gemini, which happens to be a wind sign.

22AA 2nd hit is SC2 66A

Quick Parade A is SC2 214A

Can't place AAA but I'm like 90% sure he or Amy had it at some point

Prep BB was an infinite lol

This game supposedly goes up to SCIII, so it's hard to imagine him being gone...

Unless this gets retconned? That would suck.
That hasn't been confirmed and just based on the timeline screenshot we've seen from the game's story mode, SCVI's timeline seems to just stop short before the events of SCII.

I see. I never played the older games much although I have a general idea of characters' movesets. And yes, Prep B(B), Prep B(B) ... is hilarious.

Well, I did play SCII a lot when I was young, but I was a filthy casual back then so that doesn't count.

Then how would you explain there being SCII and SCIII characters if we don't reach that point?

Time zones are so weird.

If Raph is truely gone. They'll be like Talim fans

I'm working on it.

Voldo is in.

never change, GameFAQs
lmao

That's not always how things work. Games have completely cut characters before during the development cycle after a game is already announced, but the character never revealed. But it comes out later that someone was cut in interviews and things.

If you learn more about the final roster, please inform us! But I really want Setsuka in the game she must be in! I don't want to be disappointed again with the roster just like Soul Calibur V!

Because it seems to be a soft reboot of the series, changing around some of the events of the original games (wheather or not there will be an in-game explaination for why that is, is unknown at this point).

In that timeline image you can see Zasalamel has multiple story events taking place during Soul Edge, between SE and SCI, during SCI, and between SCI and SCII; despite that he obviously didn't originally appear in those games. Same thing with Groh.

I thought it was a hard reboot that just happened to carry the name of a sequel for brand recognition?

Spammable RE is terrible. It may not be a problem for core gamers, but if it stays like this, it will probably pollute the experience of newcomers. It will be the favorite tool of trolls on online mode.
RE should be some kind of climax. It is not. I think they should:
  • Limit its use to 1 per round per player
  • And/or unlock it only when <25%HP
  • And/or unlock it when timer <15 sec
Maybe they should delete some defensive options like guard or backstep. Cause double backstep/guard isn’t a climax and don't deserve a slow motion. But it could become a balance issue, I don’t know. But with previous restrictions, we would probably see less double nothing.

RE is easily punishable plus if you whiff it 5 times in a row your bar will glow red.
