Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

As I was sitting here playing viking music and thinking about my female viking dwarf skald in D&D I just realized a lost opportunity. Isn't Groh supposed to be nordic or something? Which is weird as he so doesn't even look the part and his weapon is weird for that... but I digress, Norse culture and the Vikings were culturally one of the most progressive in terms of women, especially in battle compared to most other cultures. I'm feeling now, with this seriously male heavy game, we've missed an opportunity for a bad ass female warrior that would actually be culturally appropriate.

Something like this,.

This might be a crummy example, but Lagertha from Vikings popped into my head when I read your post.
I agree, a female Viking type of character would have been so badass.

Groh only has subtle Norse mythology vibes (eyepatch is associated with Odin and has a weapon that's vaguely spear-like.) Shame the token Norse guy had to be a weird Nomura-designed reject. Would have preferred a female if that was the case. Edgemaster's alt looks more Norse.

All we can do is hope Cassie gets that spear, Hilde or Mi-Na become DLC, or Kilik gets a spear as a weapon choice. I mean Sophitia has the Blue Crystal Rod as an option and club wielder Kamikirimusi is a Nightmare clone. Why give Kilik different rods?

Just showed Groh to my roomate and my girlfriend both who also love Norse and Viking culture and they were like WTF??? And wondering why his armor looks futuristic. LOL they so dropped the ball on Groh.

It's not something new, but it's only posted today ...

Well, this is interesting. This whole time, I was under the impression that SC6 was a reboot with a different timeline. Apparently, it takes place between SC1 and SC2, then the continuity resumes from there. So, this game is a prequel, not a 'pure reboot.' I don't know what that means for the characters introduced in SC3 & SC4, because I think this makes it unlikely that Amy or Hilde will return in the base roster. Seong Mina and Cassandra might make it in with Talim, but I'm starting to doubt Tira now, too. Zas makes the most sense to me, since time travel and immortality are his main themes. But we all know SC2-SC4 take place the same year, so we'll have to see what they plan to do.

It's weird seeing people keep posting roster predictions with no Tira (or maybe it's just the one guy?), especially when they're putting in Rock and Mina as guaranteed inclusions. If Zas is in Tira's in, she's popular with a unique style and considering they made her the main villain in SCV's story mode the devs clearly like her a lot too.

I'm pretty curious what they'll do with her story-wise this time, in the SCII time period she'd be searching for Nightmare I think but in SCI era she'd probably still be with the Bird of Passage group which could be a pretty interesting angle to go for.

Popularity, unfortunately, doesn't mean that much in this series when Lizardman ends up in more games than Seong-Mina. Yes, Lizardman, the least popular character in the history of the series, a character with almost zero representation in any tournament, has been in more games than an original mainstay. And that says something about how frequently he gets in over other characters with way more popularity and representation.

And Tira's importance to the plot line only matters in that she's one of the few villains in the series and the only one loyal to Nightmare, but besides that, she's specifically an antagonist for the Alexandrias and has near zero relevancy to the leads in SC1. Could they make her more relevant to SC1's plot? Sure. But it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Zasalamel and Talim being added to SC6 is largely because of fans being upset that these two didn't make into SC5 for whatever reason, and the polls proved it. Tira could still show up as a DLC character; and there's too little evidence one way or the other to accept or deny her inclusion via DLC. But as a character in the base roster, I doubt she'll show. Everything so far points to the roster being a copy of SC1's - meaning that outside of Talim and Zasalamel, SC2's, 3's and 4's newcomers aren't needed here.

I'm not certain if I agree or disagree with you, but I do know that it would be a ludicrous decision on Namco's part if they actually did this. SCV already got enough backlash for cutting characters and fighting styles, the last thing SCVI needs is to have 4+ guest characters but not Setsuka or Raphael.

Seeing long-time veterans of the series as DLC would still suck IMO, but it's better to have them that way than to not have them at all.

It's ridiculous indeed, but the precident has been set already. The DLC will most likely be reserved for out-of-franchise guests.

Tira must be in. She's one of the most important characters in the game.

Except she's only important after the whole thing with Siegmare. And there is no Nightmare in the game that isn't Siegfried, so they're probably not going there yet.

Also don't forget that Zas was meant to be DLC according to the early leak before he was bumped up to the main roster.

Man I tried to play SCV last night and that game is slow as shit, holy balls. Mainly because the movement sucks and is heavily punishable.

The net code is also atrocious. G’damn.

The confirmation that the up to date net code from Tekken 7 will be used gives me even more hope for SCVI.

Groh's outfit would be normal looking if it wasn't for the neon-colored crap and random gauntlet. A single color on his hair and eyepatch can make a great difference. His weapon's cool. Still not the best representative for Norse culture. And then he talks in a futuristic way. His outfit kind of reminds me of Game of Thrones' Night Watch in a way except for the Final Fantasy-looking stuff.

And to me it feels like the SC2 newcomers except Talim (who could be argued to be more like Sophitia personality-wise since the latter wasn't in originally) pretty much took tropes from the less favored characters since Yun basically replaces Hwang, Cassie seems a lot like Mi-Na personality-wise to me, and even Raph's plot is kind of similar to Rock's if you think about it.

The netcode is great in Tekken 7, I've enjoyed a lot on online matches (though I set it to lvl5 connection only) and is definitely better than the god awful netcode that was in Tekken 6. What a difference a decade makes.

The cyber eye "patch" is a problem to. eyepatch fine cyber eye absurd. So many iconic Norse looks I now hate Groh lol.

Well the Raph/Rock comparison is that their motivations come down to them forced out of their home and their adopted child. Except Rock was sadly replaced and Raph’s plot is kind of a darker take.

We can't prove this.

Is proof what we're presenting now? How about a lack of proof to the contrary then?

Watch the story trailer. Count the number of times Zas shows up. If he was in that trailer it would be proof that he was always planned for the base roster, but he does not. No art, no name, not even participating in a random normal gameplay fight.

The only things that bug me about Grøh's design are the weird hair colors and the cyber eye patch, as well as the "dark 'n edgy" color scheme of his 1P. Since I was bored, I went and (poorly) photoshopped a picture of his 2P colors to make him look slightly less like an animu-edgelord:
