Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I am curious about this "exploring the past but not altering history" thing. If Groh is Killik's rival and they will battle, how do you send someone to the past, having him fight a warrior who never fought your guy, and expect not to have effects on the timestream?

OK, if this was a Marvel comic, trying to change the past would create an alternate timeline. Hence why the images of Soulcalibur impaling SoulEdge and viceversa?

There's also the school of thought that time is immutable. If anyone here has played Soul Reaver will remember:
You must understand, our presence here doesn’t alter history. You and I meet here because we are compelled to – we have always met here.
History is irredeemable.
Drop a stone into a rushing river – the current simply courses around it and flows on as if the obstruction were never there. You and I are pebbles, Raziel, and have even less hope of disrupting the time-stream.
The continuum of history is simply too strong, too resilient.

Whichever the case, when SCVII comes out, maybe we'll be still be discussing the time traveling events

But do you have any confirmation that Groh is from the future or is it just speculation?

The issue with Rock's gameplay is that a grappler just isn't a good fit for Soul Calibur. Throws are mostly breakable here and the game revolves a lot around pokes and mix-ups and such, so a character who's whole moveset revolves around throws just plain isn't a very good idea and doesn't mesh well with the rest of the cast.

People like to say SC needs a grappler because every other fighter has one but does it really? SC is hardly your standard fighting game, we have a specific button for guard, low focus on combos, and of course the system this website is named after. If someone can adjust to the guard button they're not going to be thrown off by not having one specific playstyle they typically go for in the game.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think it was said he was from the future, member of an aval organization, followers of Algol. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Also, his quotes signal that he already knows how events will play out.
"my information is sound. No surprises here."

Aren’t throws supposed to be mainly for combating people who guard, it seems weird to have grappling in sword fighting game. It also defeats the whole idea of “swinging weapons fun” that Okubo is pitching and aiming for.

Astaroth isn't a grappler, he's the slowish but strong type who also has a couple extra throws on the side (which is how it should be, a couple extra throws for certain occasions is fine but the moveset shouldn't revolve around them).

Fighting games typically have to introduce new playstyles and concepts. Especially old ones that have been around for quite a few years.

I can definitely remember people carrying on about Algol and his projectiles. It was a fairly legit point to criticize the existence of projectiles in a 3D fighting game but... that didn't ruin the game.

Anyway its obvious that even if we introduce a grappler, the majority of his movelist would still consist of normal strikes. I suppose everyones definition of the term and amount of throws may vary.

It might surprise you, but a lot of the throws in this game do involve someone swinging their weapon at their opponent.

You guys do need to chill. This whole topic is getting old. Whoever gets revealed will get revealed. Whoever becomes DLC will be DLC.
