I am curious about this "exploring the past but not altering history" thing. If Groh is Killik's rival and they will battle, how do you send someone to the past, having him fight a warrior who never fought your guy, and expect not to have effects on the timestream?
OK, if this was a Marvel comic, trying to change the past would create an alternate timeline. Hence why the images of Soulcalibur impaling SoulEdge and viceversa?
There's also the school of thought that time is immutable. If anyone here has played Soul Reaver will remember:
Whichever the case, when SCVII comes out, maybe we'll be still be discussing the time traveling events

You must understand, our presence here doesn’t alter history. You and I meet here because we are compelled to – we have always met here.
History is irredeemable.
Drop a stone into a rushing river – the current simply courses around it and flows on as if the obstruction were never there. You and I are pebbles, Raziel, and have even less hope of disrupting the time-stream.
The continuum of history is simply too strong, too resilient.
Whichever the case, when SCVII comes out, maybe we'll be still be discussing the time traveling events
