Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

People here making me hate SCIII for no reason with them pretending it was a perfect game lol gotta get away from the SCVI negativity.

Anyway, I think it's hard to make new characters and promote them as DLC in the current age where most of the games are striving to make things easier. SFV kind of works because the base roster/mechanics are so bland that the new DLC people are intriguing because of the flavor they add, but those DLC also have sold terribly (caveat that they allow you to get them for "free"). But mostly it's hard to make innovative and complex designs, but add lore and character to them without adding extra story parts or something.

Xrd the only new DLC was doing good because he was real strong. NRS purposely makes them strong so people buy them. So I guess they could do that, but then people will just hate them.

I'm not liking how copy and pasted the clothing options and hair are starting to look... AGAIN. For a sequel, they sure showed off the CaS with the least amount of new content. The mummy "race" is probably just that clothing option we got in the previous game that looks exactly the same.

By the looks of the scroll bar, the hair options are pretty much going to be the same, and unless my eyes deceive me, I only saw one new hairstyle.
And then there's this:

Not only does the quantity of faces look to be the same, it's quite simply the same faces. If the development team had to choose between adding more characters or adding more CAS content, then I'm okay with them focusing on the former, but it's a shame to see very obvious examples of a low budget.

Maybe I should buy enough stocks (surely I can muster robbing a bank or two) of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc so I can shout at them in a shareholder meeting.

I would like to point out that the bottom row shows a vast improvement from 5 to 6.

That row, in 5, screams "Most likely to be named Krug and be afraid of fire" while the 6 version of the row just looks like sleazy, fantasy nobles who will talk down to peasants from horseback.

So it struck me as I was watching the Libra of Souls trailer for the 10,000th time: What if the reference to India is not only the place where the game mode centers around, but also a hint at a new char? (not Wizardman because he doesn't strike me as Indian)

I'm of the opinion that in general Soul Calibur takes place in locations that connect well with the Silk Road trade routes as it was basically the bloodline of the known world.

Even though they are the old faces they at least they look better... I feel like if this game sells well we will get lot of dlc for cas and I dont mind paying if they are not free

They have been reusing the same uggly faces since SCIV. I'm kinda bored of those horse faces...
It would have been best to implement a character creator as the one we can find in MMORPGs (for instance, Black Desert).

But well.... we all knew that was not going to happen (only in our dreams).

At least they could give us the option to edit the default faces. But nope... clearly not gonna happen anytime soon.

This game deserved a bigger budget. A budget that justified the triple A selling price.

Instead of investing money in that Pachislot game which was released in Japan on 2017, Bamco should have given that money to Okubo to let Tira be in the launch roster for SCVI at least.

If they wanted to celebrate the 20th Anniversary then the main roster should have everyone of those characters that appeared 20th years ago so I expected to see at least Hwang and Rock too but doesn't seem to be the case.

We have seen moveset from Cervantes and story images from Lizzy which also will appear in some form or another.
From Raphael we have his hairstyle in character creator? That could be a nice indicator of him being in the launch roster.

I am not asking for 2P... that I can understand they decided not to include them if they did not have the budget neither the time. It would be acceptable to include 2P and 3P as DLCs. People would pay for that.

But when talking about characters that's just a different world. Cause a fighting game revolves around its roster. So it is a must to pay for characters if you want to enjoy the full experience in a fighting game and Bamco knows that. So they will take profit from everyone they can.

There are better forms to do marketing... I mean they could include some free DLC character or unlockable/bonus characters in-game to show fans that they appreciate us not only for our money. But so far I can see the route they had taken. Not only here but everywhere you can see it... videogame industry has become a denigrant business.
What angers me most is that the main fault does not come from the greedy companies but from the users themselves who do not question any of this.
This won't change.

A game that proves there is still hope is Dragon Quest XI which will be released full right from the start. No DLCs, no Season Passes. Like in the good old days. This proves that it is possible. That's a nice way to commemorate an old franchise. SCVI should have taken some notes. I mean 20 years ago DLCs / Season Passes did not exist.
How happy and fortunate we were back then.

PS. Sorry if it sounds like a rant post. Truth is I am just sharing my opinion here.
I feel old even if I am not that old. What I mean is that today generations will never understand the meaning of full game since release.

Street Fighter V gives you the chance of farming fight-money, which you can use to purchase characters, sadly I don't think Bamco will ever introduce this system in one of their franchises, a system like SFV would be the perfect balance in my opinion

You want to purchase every DLC character without spending real money --> You have to play and farm a lot, slow way to obtain chars
You want to purchase DLC characters with real money --> fastest way to obtain them
You want to farm a certain character but save some money to instantly obtain another one --> you can

Yeah the CaS faces are pretty terrible, especially since facial hair is considered a face... if I ever wanted to add a beard to the CaS we see in the trailer, I wouldn't and that's something CaS fans should request once we know the game is successful. A patch is still possible ^^

yeah but for what price?
i rather stick to the pay for dlc chars system but pay overall less for the complete product then what you have in sfv.

Is it possible to create Costumes for the Base Main Chars with the Editor or do you have to make Complete new Charackters and can just attach the Movesets to them?

Oh please no, i'm a newbie and tried some of the other fighting games on Steam because Soul Edge/Calibur wasn't here, and SF5 payment model was a real nightmare, especially for beginners who struggle to complete the modes to earn credits. I far prefer Soul Calibur payment model, already pre-purchased and feel peace in my mind (and ready for a 2nd season pass).

It is a bit annoying. If you want an actual beard, there's only really that suuuuuper angry face. If we can change eyebrows is it that difficult to add it. I would be fine with more CaS faces as dlc. I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet.

Yeah, you can just create costumes for the base characters if you want. No need to create new characters if you don't want to.

It's actually not easy to bring excitement and hype with new character compared to an already established character. That why i think Capcom recently revealed G alongside Sagat.

I'm pretty sure that reception to the characters post-launch has been far more favorable to G than to Sagat. Of course, upfront it's a lot easier to hype up classics, especially like Sagat, but lasting reception depends on the character itself, regardless of nostalgia.

Companies do such baffling things sometimes. I won't comment on the pachislo game as I don't know how much that has earned them, but they've done other projects which just seemed doomed from the start. Namco's whole push around 2013 to do a lot of free-to-play titles seemed very ill-advised. They didn't go multi-platform, they went with a platform where free-to-play has not proven to be successful yet, and one of the games they release is a fighting game... with no versus mode whatsoever. I don't think anyone is surprised that didn't work out. The whole free-to-play push seemed like a desperate and poorly planned attempt to chase the free-to-play market which was exploding on PC and smartphones at the time.

And now recently they announced they'll be publishing Bless Online to consoles, a game which has flopped numerous times on PC already. It seems pretty obvious that decisions are ultimately made by people in business suits, and not by people who actually have a good idea what actually makes popular games popular.

If it weren't for missteps like that, I imagine we would have seen SC6 earlier and maybe with a bigger budget.

This seems cool (though we're clearly not getting such a thing at this point).

I think characters like Rock and Li Long have a chance of making it in... as DLC.

I wonder if it's hard to find people who are good at business and who are open-minded and discerning video gamers.

That is people who truly understand the breadth and depth of the various dynamic markets in the industry, people who also understand the sentiments of gamers, and people who can also make smart business decisions on behalf of the company.

I don't have a problem with them reusing faces at all. I just means players get to recreate their original creations from SCIV and SCV. In saying that, though, I was hoping we could mix and match noses and eyes, like we did with eyebrows in SCV. I'm sure this creation mode will exceed SCV's, most of what we see are just surface-level features. I'm not going to harp on it, since there seems to be a lot about it we won't know, until the game comes out. The biggest thing I want above all else, though, is BEING ABLE TO HAVE RED UNDERWEAR.
