Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I thought this was an interesting Tweet from Harada:

Someone commented on how amazing it was that there were no leaks about Negan coming to Tekken 7. It was a big announcement that actually took everyone by surprise. Harada responded that they have a policy of intentionally leaking fake information to company staff so that they can identify the source of a leak. Hearing this, I couldn't help but wonder...

1. Could any of the bad leaks have been intentional disinformation? To try and ferret out where the leaks were coming from?

2. Is Project Soul at all worried about how leaky SCVI's development has been? I know Japanese developers can be super strict about this sort of thing, and Harada definitely seems to pride himself on running a tight ship.
I'm trying to imagine who they could feed false information to, and I can only keep thinking of people who absolutely need all the correct information and data to do their job. Translators definitely need the real text. Everyone in a QA department testing the game would definitely see everything as it is. Everyone working on voice recording needs the actual real script to do their job.

Either way, I think the leaks we have had has already proven themselves to be completely legit. We've had people specify Azwel's name, explain Libra of Soul in rather exact detail, and describe Grøh before the game was even released. You wouldn't be able to guess those things, so those are definitely legit leaks. Maybe they got fed a little bit of fake information alongside some of the real information? I guess that's possible.

I hope the dev team isn't too upset about stuff getting leaked. I can remember Harada becoming pretty mad in the past when Tekken would have a lot of stuff leaked. It is crazy how much stuff in general is being leaked with games these days. Ubisoft in particular has a ton of stuff leaked before they announce stuff.

I thought it was quite obvious at this point where the leaks have come from which is the voice recording department. I think ILM (an outsourced studio) still does the English voice cast so by the look of things the leaks are a result of the announcer calling out the names of the characters and someone getting wind of them but regarding your point about disinformation I think that's more a case of some people lying for attention or to troll which is all too common in the gaming community.

So I was curious how this compared to the JP channel. Then I got curious how it compared to EU channel views. Then I got curious how Lost Swords character trailers compared to each other in views. And then I was also a bit curious about Soul Calibur 5 trailer views. So I ended up with this:

Some observations:
- Power of waifus: Female characters almost always get more views.
- Power of guest characters: Ezio got 1.6m views on his announcement trailer. It's the most viewed SC video on the EU Namco channel.
- Top 5 Lost Swords character trailers on EU channel: Ivy, Sophitia, Taki, Cassandra, Amy
- Top 5 Lost Swords character trailers on JP channel: Sophitia, Ivy, Taki, Pyrrha, Mitsurugi (I'm surprised to see Pyrrha so popular)
- Taki's SC6 trailer has a very low view count. EU channel must have been very slow to upload it.
- SC6's announcement trailer has a relatively low view count too, but the video on the US channel has 1m views. Actually, all of the views of SC6 videos on the US channel are much higher.
- Overall, SC6 trailers are getting many more views than SC5 trailers (on the US channel anyway, that's where the really big numbers are showing up). It's possible Youtube is more popular now than 7 years ago, but I'm hoping it actually means there's more interest in SC6 than SC5.

And yes, that was not a typo. SC5 was released nearly SEVEN years ago. I feel old. I'm gonna go buy a walking stick.

That's some nice observations I wonder if they actually check these kind of stuff, or they just throw out their trailers and that's it.
Oh, and again Amy beats Raphael here again in both EU and JP xD That's the Goth power some will say Viola did pretty well too ^^
There you have it, we NEED one of the Goth girls in this game, I keep saying this xD

I guess you could kind of say that 2B is goth loli style, maybe.
You could potentially but I don't know the long boots and the dress is simpler when it comes to design compared to Amy and Violas, plus when it breaks it becomes a one piece swimsuit, it's a mix with SM, though if they put 2B in the game they won't need to work on the breakable part of the costume it will come with the character xD

I'm not saying there haven't been legit leaks, but false information is often mixed in among the real information. You might not remember, and I don't really see the value in bringing up discredited info, but it was out there.

Loot boxes is shady AF business model no thanx!!! i rather pay for DLC than opening the loot box for the 100th time and hoop to get that one piece of armor im missing.
I like loot boxes, I don't see a big deal of it. Guess because I'm kinda gambler and it's entertaining. Going back to overwatch with characters, stages, patches that reworked characters completely, spray art, personality & look uniqueness, voices etc etc I can go on. It can be possible to work on fighting games just not in the same way right.

Sorry, I misread. I thought you meant if the real leaks could have had fake information so Namco can identify the source. I'm trying to remember the bad leaks, and the ones I can remember have been so wrong they must have been a random guy just trying to fool people.

I like the fake leaks which are so poorly made you can immediately tell they're fake. Like that E3 document listing Sephiroth and Cloud.

I wouldnt want characters on a lootbox, or at least not unless they are also available for standard purchase. CAS parts are fine for a lootbox. I suspect most of the future CAS parts we will get are just the outfits and weapons of DLC characters.

Lootboxes in Overwatch are only for Cosmetics.

And even then, lootboxes in Overwatch are not that badly handled -- you can get them completely for free for just playing normally.

However it is true that having them for sale can tempt users and that there's always going to be people who will buy them because of various reasons. All in all I'd rather have a different system in place instead of Lootboxes, myself.

They did use that in Tekken 4, they wanted to hire new western people to the company for localization and cie, then they intentionally give him information about the game to a new guy they just hired, but actually it was a 'test', and that was about the new mechanic that Paul and Heihachi had, it was doing those moves in a more powerful way and that brought the blue thing. As soon as they give him the info it got leaked, then the guy got fired right after lol

Yeah absolutely, i think it's well handled in Overwatch.

Loot boxes would be a bad move. They are illegal in Belgium and this illegality is probably being discussed in other countries.

Relying on loot boxes nowadays would be quite loss, especially in Europe.
