Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

They just don't know how to make good trailers anymore.

Remember this?

Those were the days... 13 years have passed but that presentation still has not been surpassed. That's how you promote a game.

Now they just preffer making trailers like the one which announced Tira as day one DLC... a week before the game went Gold.

yeah man, they don't have a heart for the SC anymore, it;s rly sad, SC3 had so much feelings, they want you to live and breathe the story etc. SC6 doens;t even have an opening..... Nothing to be hyped about except graphics and gameplay, but Me who appreciate art, mood and designs, the presentation of SC6 is poor

So what's everyone's thoughts on Groh, now that we've all had a chance to button mash with him for a day?
I played til F rank on him. I managed to understand most of his attacks and got some pretty good rounds. Because of his medium range, his attacks are not as fast as I imagined and can be fairly punishable. But he's a great character for 50-50 mixups thanks to his dual blade stance and break attacks offering good damage. I'm starting to enjoy him over Siegfried personally and a potential replacement to Taki for me.

I feel like that might just be nostalgia, nothing will ever be good for me again as sc3, at least content and feel wise. I do like, however, the direction SCVI is going in.

In this day and age, it's much better for them to be focusing on the gameplay because that's what it is: a fighting game. Frankly, if that's not what you're here for, you probably shouldn't even be playing this game.

Yeah virtua fighter is a bare bones fighting game. See where that’s at? Also, tekken took a lot out and it’s the worst tekken so far. But it’s a fighting right, so why does all that extra stuff matter?

My argument does not apply to SCVI cuz it’s looking great so far, both content and gameplay wise.

They seemed to care more about "the art, story, mood, and design" as if SCVI wasn't already presenting a lot of that. The way they worded it, they sounded like they'd rather play a graphic novel than this game.

That might be a casual thing, because yeah we care that it’s a fighting game, but what else can it offer to someone who doesn’t plan or want to learn every move or be as good as a pro. Things like mood come from awesome music, story, and everything else besides the game play. It’s just a different way of thinking, not wrong, but people just want different things out of a game.

So I know why 8WR feels muted right now. Everyone now has a 66A that tracks step and 8WR. And a lot of characters lost a 33 and 11 input with it Now being connected to one move.

I can't be bothered to learn frame data about any of the characters I like to play, which is why I'm never going to go competitive or spend more than an hour in ranked (this network test is already wearing me out). I do agree with you that they probably see SCIII with rose-colored glasses, and that the extra content in VI fills the void in me that hasn't been satisfied since II.

Yeah a lot of people forget that some people that like fighters don't use them to compete online. Lots play them with their friends casually. They button mash, maybe acquire a little skill, but don't like playing with strangers online and have no desire to put in the effort to learn to play competitively. When they aren't competing with their friends (which they rarely do, due to things like jobs, or school or other things) then they play by themselves against the computer. Most people want that time alone to be entertaining and worth their money, which they won't feel they are getting if all they can do is fight with no context, story or other activities.

The only people a pure bare-bones fighter appeals to are hardcore fighter players. The problem is, most people that buy fighters aren't hardcore fighter players. I love how hardcores of any type of game scream and cry that all games of their favor should concentrate on them and what they want and honestly don't realize that the second the casual is ignored entirely the very game types they enjoy will eventually die off due to not having enough funding or support.

So one question to the Hardcore fighters, do you honestly think there is enough of you that Soul Calibur could succeed well to replace all the casual revenue if it only worked to appeal to you and completely disregarded it's huge casual fan base by cutting out the story mode, libra of souls, CaS, and the museum mode, and had only Arcade and a team battle mode (to throw you a bone) and online play?

That said, 6 looks awesome for casuals, speaking as a casual.

Mortal Kombat has characters and aescetics I’m drawn to.

Soul Calibur to me has the best gameplay among the fighters. Can’t say I’ve felt this much thrill in a fighter. I just can’t do well in other fighters. Plus it lets me live out seeing my OCs in glorious 3D.

Help me though. I’m still humming the menu theme... I think the most soothing theme I’ve heard in a fighter.

Enjoying Groh, Voldo, and Taki. Of course I’m usually fond of the rogue/assassin type.

been having fun with the Beta ( on Xbox ) these past few days. Tried several characters, but enjoyed using Sophitia the most. Even won several matches, which made it even more fun. :)

This game looks great and plays great. can't wait for the release so I can play the offline modes, story, and CAS.

What triggers the close ups on RE?

Anyways connection dropped so I get to listen to the forest music noise-free. Recording, but don’t have the intro to it. Need to get a screen cap of it but I keep getting Kaer Morhen or the Indian Port.

When both you and your opponent put in the same input it close ups on the person who imitated the RE because they win. It has to happen on the second RE though.
For example, Kilik uses RE against Mitsurugi. They both input B. RE happens again because it clashed, they both put in A, Kilik wins and gets a close up.
