Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I expected RB make his evils comments about Groh, but SSfox and CrashX. I'm devastated, I think I can't continue with this friendship, both are canceled in my life...

Proof--if ever it were needed--that even people who have to agree to disagree on other aspects of the series can still nevertheless easily come together to form a consensus that Groh is an emo eyesore. ;)

Well idk. There are some people here such as @LisaK that like Groh and that’s perfectly fine. Just as there are people here that like Patroklos and ZWEI (along with the other SCV newcomers). I personally don’t find Groh to be that interesting but if anyone else likes him, good for them. To each their own.

I like Grøh as a backstory for Z.W.E.I., but he doesn’t have much merit all on his own. I like Azwel on a lot of different levels, and agree that he’s the best addition to the cast since Hilde. I liked the concept of the Nightmare/Z.W.E.I./Viola/Raphael/Amy storyline and felt disappointed we didn’t actually see it play out. It follows that I liked Z.W.E.I. and Viola, even though they were underutilized in an incomplete product. Same for Natsu, I liked her concept and found her gameplay more entertaining than Taki, and wished her character was established better. Leixia and Xiba... not so much. They were just not good on practically every level. Maybe, and that’s a really big maybe, the story could have sold them better, but they just seemed unnecessarily superfluous, as it was. But it’ll be a while before we have to deal with any of this again, so here’s hoping the groundwork is laid better and it’s done properly this time, when we revisit this arc.

why the fuck does SamSho have so many players? It doesn't make sense to me considering its a much more obscure series than Soul Calibur and wasn't even out til late June.

Are the majority of these players foreigners?
I don't think the majority of the players are foreign, but I do think the number is somewhat inflated by a few factors.

1. The new game / why not? attitude
Since the game is brand new and lots of people are still figuring it out, there's no shame in getting totally destroyed. And who knows? Maybe you'll be the first to discover some crazy tech that will allow you to completely dominate the other new players. The fact that there's so much unknown about the game probably made a few people say "why not?"

2. The FGC wants to love SNK
There are a lot of SNK fans who just want to support an SNK game on the main stage. But there are lots in the FGC who really like the company and its games, but have never been able to get into KOF. SamSho is much easier to learn than KOF, so they finally have a chance to try something different.

3. Fuck Melee
The narrative has formed that "Samurai Shodown and UNIST stole Melee's spot from Evo2019." This isn't really true, but the reaction in the Melee community has been to attack both these games (and Smash Ultimate) as bad games that no one will play. I think registration numbers for SamSho, UNIST and Smash Ultimate have all been boosted slightly by fighting game fans simply happy that Melee isn't there anymore.

So yeah, I doubt SamSho will be able to maintain these high numbers for long. But it's such a fun game that I suspect it'll earn a dedicated group of players.

LOL

Well but i think Yun Seung is one of the dopest SC character ever, 100 % REALFACT he's the first EVER character in Soul Calibur {After Ivy of COURSE} that i go with in Training mode and labbing the character. So what now?
1.0

As @Starringrole said Groh still has potential, but as he's now Meh. I don't like to lie so i'm just telling the truth haha

But i can rely to your reaction tho, if i see someone says bad things about fav characters i will probably not reply him/her but i would say something like "that guy/girl is a Moron he/she doesn't know sh1t"

if Namco is serious about growing their esports, then a Season 2 of Soul Calibur has to be shown off at EVO

Good point, Esports games own are Tekken and Soul Calibur, and of course DBZF, tho i don't know if we can say that this last one is a fully Bamco title, i mean it's been developped by Arcsys and Dragon Ball is a Toei IP.

On a off topic side note, it would be interesting if Bamco an make same deal with Arcsys but with One Piece. Main thing i don't like in DBZF is the fact that there are too many clones, but with One Piece it will be too easy to avoid this considering how many characters are in One Piece World and that can fight.

Sort of--scythes were actually peasant weapons for millennia: they aren't ideal weapons, but as polearms they could be pretty effective. At a minimum you have leverage and reach. Groh's weapon is stupendously ridiculous precisely because it has neither. You literally would have the exact same reach and a greatly expanded mobility, leverage, and angular range of movement if you had half of Groh's weapon as opposed to the whole thing with a narrow grip in the middle. Plus you wouldn't be in constant danger of having your weapon turned against you by having the entire thing used as a lever against you. Literally, it might be single dumbest possible design for a bladed weapon, combining the most possible glaring flaws and disadvantages imaginable to anyone whose ever picked up a real sword. Which is why it never existed anywhere in history and only exists in Star Wars and anime.
Well for the scythe to be feasible it has to have the blade pointed forwards to at least have a chance of being effective.
As for the rest - the simple fix is to make it work more like a quarterstaff or some other polearm so as you mentioned later on in the post - at least increasing the size of handle/shaft.
Personally I am seriously disapointed because they could make so much more apropriate things with a scandinavian character but that was also discussed a long time ago
Now I'm not saying that numerous of the other characters' weapons don't take some extreme creative license in their effectiveness. But at least most of them can make sense if you imagine someone strong enough or magical enough to wield them. But Groh's weapon is just idiotic to the very core of the physics that govern it, and no amount of super saiyan can cover for that fact, or the obvious lack of familiarity with genuine martial arts by whoever designed it.
Well actually if someone would possess super strength the argument of leverage would be out of the window because then he could just be strong enough to outpush anyone regardless of leverage. To overthink it further - Siegfried or Nightmare would simply fly away after the swing regardless of their strength. Unless they would weight a ton or something
He also has nonsense dialog, even for a Soulcalibur character. Something is just not translating with his whole "protector of humanity" schpiel. He's more comic book villain than the anti-hero that kind of title suggests.
Here I will agree. It would be pretty simple to make him a more complex and/or relatable character. Instead they went with over the top cartoon villain that is absolutely inconsistant. They perhaps wanted to showcase him as a chaotic madman but that simply does not click with him. He is supposed to be smart and eloquent enough to be able to manipulate "oh so much secret agent organisation" but it is nowhere to be seen.
To come back to Algol on the other hand - now that I look back to SCIV I think he was actually one of the best characters when it comes to their story. Especially that ending with Sophitia - he was the compassionate antagonist that was really simple in design but he did this part really well.
