Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Ah Ok. And hows that ? Amy is completely braindead cancer atm and cass has been pretty unga since release and really only lacks in range which she doesnt struggle with too much either since she can just AS in. Hilde on the other hand has some big damage punishes and launchers but they are avoidable. Her long range options are all steppable verticals and her frames arent exactly good on block/hit either.
What I'm saying is Hilde is far more grounded and normal. I'm not a fan of Amy's roses or Cassandra's Divine Force, from a mechanics/aesthetics point of view. Amy, once rosed up, is pretty ridiculous, I agree, but I find it tedious to have to charge up roses to unlock her real moveset every single match, and would have preferred it if the roses were just combo extenders. Divine Force, on the other hand, is just super clashy with Cassandra's style, which was supposed to be brutal/deliberate/direct, not using the power of the gods. I'm not arguing that it's not effective, because it is, but I'm saying that it goes against what I liked about playing Cassandra in the past. The gimmicks levels are just too high, and I'm not a fan. Hilde, on the other hand, still feels like Hilde, plays like Hilde, and does Hilde things, and doesn't have to jump through unnecessary hoops, so I feel she's better in that way.

Tira is fine honestly. She just needs a bit more work in comparison to others to succeed that’s all. Much like Taki, Voldo, and Raphael. Low tier doesn’t exist at all in this game.

Much like Raphael

In my experience Raphael is a god damn nightmare to fight against with his fast ranged attacks and that blasted i10BBB, even his backstep is good enough to evade all my attacks. I rarely face Raphael players but all the ones I have are A rank who lock me down from moving or punish parts of my gameplan because of how fast his attacks are, plus he deals great damage without the need of a wall. As far as I'm concerned Raphael is S tier but because he's heavy execution I think a lot of people who casually play him don't realize he's up there. I would even go as far as to say I have a easier time fighting Azwel in the higher ranks than I do Raphael.

I play Tira and know her.

Right now, she is the worst IMO. (Low Tier but usable)

At Evo Japan, Shen Chan used her and what I saw is that he clearly took advantage from lack of matchup knowledge from the opponents.

Shen Chan is a beast but he was playing Tira with shenanigans. There are many times certain things shouldn't hit like the Jolly FC3A or the B+K low, or obvious attempts of SC throw hitting.

Show me high tourney matches where a good Tira player is doing her thing and isn't just benefitting from lack of knowledge from the opponent.

Ah, those moves that are very difficult, if not impossible to react to. Tira is not like Z.W.E.I. or Dampierre, she can win even if you know the match-up because she doesn't rely on gimmicks or only a few moves. I do not know why Shen Chan played Tira, but I'm guessing it wasn't just for fun. There must have been a good reason. He probably doesn't consider her low tier either otherwise why use a low tier character when you're in a tournament. That doesn't even make sense.

Shen Chan:
Many have asked me why of all characters I picked Tira to go up against Azwel. It wasn't a counter pick or maybe it was mentally. 2 weeks prior to EVO Japan, I trained with @nao4mihara and lost badly. So here I am, needing to beat him to get into top 8.
I picked up Tira a month back to learn the MU against her and through the process, I found out I really liked her because she could cover my weakness as a player. My Tira is inspired by @ShiningDecopon with a slight blend of me.
I decided to try Tira against Mihara san because I know I wasn't there mentally with Cervy against Azwel, so Gloomy was calling me and asking to take over. I thought I had a good momentum going on with Tira, so I carried on playing her in top 8.
I don't regret it. In fact, it was the most fun I ever had in a top 8. Azwel is still a hurdle for me mentally, but I'll keep on working on it.
Until then, back to the lab!
P.S. I'm still a Cervantes main.

Probably because opponents have scouted his Cervantes and Tira ain't that well known. (Just a possibility)

That's why the shenanigans. In a best of three, best of five, you can get away with Low Tier characters shenanigans because of the unknown factor and the human adaptation part.

Kuma and Panda have won tournaments in Tekken games (almost always the bears are Low Tier) for starters and I would be here for a while if I put KOF and others. As long as the gap between Top and Low isn't that big, Low Tier are viable.

There honestly is no low tier in this game. Every character does some really good work in the right hands.

Well, there are many examples from the tournament scenes of various fighters over the years where players have pulled off upset victories against more favoured opponents simply by utilizing a character that was overwhelmingly agreed to be a low tier character; sometimes it's about the particular match-up, but other times its just about presenting the opposition with a scenario they have not trained for. There's also the question of one's comfort with the style itself: there's nothing from preventing a player from recognizing that a given character is objectively being lower tier, but still presenting them with tools they feel a connection with and which they can eek victories out of--again, particularly if you can blindside your opponent with something they don't know how to reliably and consistently counter. But regardless of the reasons in particular cases, this is a known phenomena that high-level players have open discussed using, and which has occasionally led to some big moments at tournaments.

Reminder that tomorrow will be Evo main games announcement

I didn't realize this was happening tomorrow. And I had a dream last night where they announced the EVO lineup and SC6 wasn't there...

I really hope I'm not psychic.

I don't remember how many games are be, 6 maybe?

I would say:

- Games are pretty much guarantee: T7, SFV, Smash

- Games that has good chances to be in for many reasons: SC6, MK11, DBZF, SamSho

And heu KOF15 also maybe if it will have same scenario as Samsho last year.

I'm not sure how many games are gonna be in, even if it's nine it will be though. all of MK11 SS and DBZ are very solid candidate, God i hope SC6 will be in.
