Rock General Discussion

3A is a lot safer in practice when used against certain character. Just don't use it against someone who is always ready to mash A, like X.

I've been wanting to use iWR A, but just can't seem to get it working. Oh well. 3A seems kind of useful, actually.

Damn ... where are all those Rock players gone?!

Just to revive the SA a little heres an unnecessary techtrap:
JF PT -> FC 3K
Normal tech leads to feet first ground grab
Right tech leads to head first ground grab
Left tech leads to a Stun with an inconsistent head first ground grab

There's really not much Rock players not to mention...

i feel like Rock is the type of character that requires you to have EXTREMELY strong basics and a decent mind game to be played well. Unfortunately most players do not fulfill this requirement.. and this is a US board... most players are fan boys/bandwagon followers.

I guess to keep this thread somewhat alive i've been finding 4K to be kinda necessary... mainly because 4K blocked nobody seems to punish me simply because of the possibility of followup afterwards.. and honestly... rock needs more 'quick' mids...

also with my style 1A is such a good move... simply because on block because of range Rock can really use the advantage afterwards... and on hit... it's possible to run up and still do a GT against sleepers (it sounds ridiculous... but i've done it before many time with vids recoded)

Hmmm... Although I like 1A too, I do not like 4K on it's own. It just feels too easy to do AA on reaction afterwards.

I guess I'll add something. 22_88K. Slow. Linear. Can't hit grounded. But on block, it has great recovery and leaves you in crouch.

I use 4K. Mostly because it seems to track a bit and I have this dream where one day I'll be able to set up 4K, 2B+G.

Been working on my oki, which was really bad, especially for Rock. Don't know why I wasn't using ground throws to catch rollers before. It's so helpful.

4K tracks slightly to Rock's left. 6K tracks slightly to his right. At the end of the day, neither tracks enough to be used as a step killer.

thing is... 6K they press AA without thinking twice... with 4K... they can press AA but if that one time you press 4KA they are screwed.. also 4K2A+G might TC AA lol... not that it's great way to avoid it.. but it does make you a LITTLE safer.

step killer = throw... 3A... 4A... 4A+B ...that's about it... rock kinda really sucks against step especially if they are outside throw range you kinda wanna cry...

i've been trying to abuse 2B+K more nowadays... also i've been trying to use B+K as much as possible....

here's some examples.

CH 6B -> B+K -> GT.
44[A] -> 66B -> B+K -> GT
A+G -> 66B-> B+K -> GT, this is SOMETIMES better than 66B -> CT if they are off axis.. they can still break the CT... because it's not a back throw... but if you are facing directly against wall.. CT for back throw imo is the easiest most reliable way to get 90 damage with good wake ups.

it's kinda sad that there's really less than 10 or actually i should say less than 5 'serious' rock players on this planet.

I am not a Rock player. I AM Rock. I hardly do 4K by itself, i choose the followups. Either way i don't care about eating AA.

Yeah, with Rock he has hardly any moves its all about applying the moves correctly. I have been liking 4k and if you need another mid, 1b has been working for me well when applied judiciously.

Rock's throw is THE step killer.

I still would rather do something else other than single 4K, but that's just me I guess.

Has anyone played with 11? I've been mixing it up with 2b+k. It tracks a little better since Rock will reposition and has a similar guard crush. It has a little longer startup, but if you train them not to rise attacking it works well.

11 is probably one of the dumber things they did when designing Rock. A move THAT slow with so little range and poor damage should be giving a free crouch throw on block. Seriously, what were they thinking...

And for the record, I never use this move. Even it's accidental, I yell at myself for being so careless.

step killer = throw... 3A... 4A... 4A+B ...that's about it... rock kinda really sucks against step especially if they are outside throw range you kinda wanna cry...

Give Jump A a try, 44A is working pretty good for me too.

jump A eh? maybe... i'll give that a try.... but like hotnikkelz said... slow high moves... -_-;

as for throw being step killer.. that's true... however that starts failing when they are outside throw range :(

I just wanna reiterate... 2B+K is good stuff... it even can beat out kilik's OTG A+K
