Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Is it Thursdays or Tuesdays that the announcements usually come on, I can't recall. It really does feel like it's about time. And bear in mind I am the perennial "Don't get your hopes up, considering factors A, B, and C, that have to be considered if you want to be realstic." guy. But that said, even accounting for the variability of the timetable in terms of time between releases, and even considering that COVID has set things back markedly...I feel it's gotta be just over the horizon at this point. I would not be surprised at all to see the reveal in the next week or two and a release very shortly thereafter. I just haven't been following the truncated events schedule now that everything is online. PS loves an event for their reveals regarding this game, so if they can find something even lackluster in the next couple of weeks, that's where I would expect to see it.

Sorry but to me, SamSho going for Warden instead of a Soulcalibur character for a guest, after SC6 did wonders for Haohmaru is just a low blow.

I love SNK but that was just foul for Soulcalibur.
Well, it's possible that's just something neither side was particularly interested in.

I agree if it’s left too much longer I think any sales momentum that still exists from previous DLC releases will be lost. The casual fan only cares so much about one additional character every 3/4 months, and at some point will move on from the game entirely.

Would be good at the very least to get an update on when we might expect the remaining content for season 2 - given we’ve paid for it already (those of us who bought the season pass)! Even estimates will do!

I don't necesarily disagree, but I was talking more in terms of when they can get the character out, not when they'd ideally like to: undercurrent circumstances, a delay of up to a couple of months over what was the previous norm would be perfectly understandable, but I suspect character 3 was already well into development before recent market disruptions. Even considering what they are dealing with, I suspect that character is essentially finished, as of relatively recently and that they are waiting a very brief period to try to land it with some minor aplomb. That's just my rough guestimate at where they are at right now, based on a number of factors. I do think they of course would have liked to have released it much sooner in their original plans in a much less dismal context.

That's where they really stumble: I think there is a genuine experimental strategy behind how they have decided to release indications as to future content, but I do not like it and do not think it has served this game well at all..

I feel like it's one of the worst strategies I ever witnessed. Absolutely no information, keeping people in darkness for months, when something is teased or a trailer gets released we are greeted with "soon" which personally I consider to downright insulting at this point. I can't say it was the same for others but for me - I never bothered with buying second season pass because of how the first one was handled.

I briefly considered not getting it, but then they had to go ahead and put the SoulCalibur IV-BD-V music in the pass only, so they basically twisted my arm. Especially considering that we finally get to use Dance of the Oracle and Through the Jaws of Death, odd exclusions that weren’t able to be used in SoulCalibur V. Then I had some pangs of regret when I saw the customization offerings, which were awful, and unless they turn around with Setsuka’s release, I’ll probably be waiting for Hwang before I get super into the game again. I’ve got a ton of other stuff to play right now, which has been the biggest failing of the DLC with regards to keeping folks interested in this game. Those online tournaments don’t do anything for me either. They’re obviously a lower quality of gameplay held back by the online standards. There’s been nothing to keep us engaged of value hardly this year. Not completely their fault, I get that, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

All I wanted was music from SCII and SCIII because those had some top tier themes. Didn't played the game for a while so I can't even remember if I have them or not.

Soul calibur games are just the kind of games I go back to a lot. The customisation and gameplay is pretty much my ideal game. I've spent an unearthly amount of time playing it. Even still, I find that I'm spending less and less time on it, because the releases are so badly paced I sometimes forget to play the game and just mill around in creation for an hour or three. Even I'm starting to find it a bit stale, and I played soul calibur V religiously, even when there wasn't new dlc coming out. Soul calibur far and away my favourite series of games. But damn, I'd really like something new given that there's fewer parts to work with this game.

I don’t see why today’s the day for an announcement when we still have like a month to evo online....

They have that special exhibition thing, so why would they reveal setsuka beforehand?

Same, I’ve got better things to play as well. I came back to this game not long ago and ran mostly into nothing but Create-a-Soul users on Wi-Fi. After that I was like “Yeah, this is why I took a break....”

At least I can look forward to the new Crash Bandicoot game in October. So that’ll probably take up a lot of my time compared to SC6.

I think Namco dropped the ball with their DLC management.

Other companies like Capcom and SNK have done good work with theirs but Namco with SC6 have just not done as it's supposed to and killed the interest.

Yes, Setsuka and Hwang are coming but is there any players to play to engage when they come? Is no excuse because they finished Tekken's Season 3 completely and they have yet to finish Season 2 of SC6 which is inexcusable.

SamSho just finished their Season 2 with Warden and they came later than SC6 so there is no excuse.

Project Soul just dropped the ball with their DLC practices.

I am a patient person but patience has it's limits.

The truth is that maybe Haohmaru was a mistake as it took too much development time (boooo guests) but this lagging behind for SC6 DLC is just blah.

Last year they finished their Season 1 in August and I just explained the DLC stuff with other companies.

Get a move on Project Soul.

I don't really mind if we have to wait. I can bear that, especially with the COVID situation setting work back. But I just... wish they would give us some info. It doesn't have to be a full-fledged trailer, it could just be a teaser, or even just a random tweet saying "we're working hard at the new DLC, expect some info coming soon" or something like that. I understand the situation they've been put in due to the coronavirus, but I wish they wouldn't leave us in complete darkness on DLC.

Okubo say this weeks ago.
