Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I will continue to doubt that we will see any of the five SoulClalibur IV bonus girls return beyond subtle passing mentions in bios, but if it happened, and we got Kamikirimusi back, I'd be elated. I'm still not going to get any hopes up, though, and will continue to stand by it being Yun-seong, and the most practical release order to me remains Aeon -> Guest -> Rock -> Yun-seong, which would not be the order of names, but I don't think it means anything, personally. Cassandra and Amy had their names backwards from the release order, don't forget that.

Ashlotte being a representative of the Automaton race could be nice, but I feel like, if we were going to have her return, it would be better for her to wait for SoulCalibur VII, where 2B isn't on the roster anymore, so she can Aeon some of her moves. Not that I'm saying Ashlotte should just be a 2B ripoff or anything, but incorporating some of those ideas in a unique style rather than just cloning Astaroth would be a neater implementation, and it would feel catty to lift from 2B in the same game that 2B is in.

This is a subject on which I have expressed my opinion several times and unless something new comes up, STAR is whatever character you want/like. Anyways I just wanted to review something that until then I never mentioned, many believe that STAR refers to Haohmaru, but I'll just remind people of that detail:

'STAR' has not been used to refer to a guest in the past and I don't see it being used to refer now in the future. Another thing I wanted to mention is the sequence of DLCs based on the Season 2, so I think would be: Reptile - Guest - Star - Stone

Damn, I never thought about the actual star icon in SC4, and considering the mystery swordswoman in Setsuka's chronicle, this further solidifies my current opinion that the next guest is Shura.

In Setsuka's Soul Chronicle it's kind of suggested that the girl has a connection with Soul Edge or at least she uses the fragments freely, being a possible malfested, which is different from Shura, she is basically a bounty hunter or an exterminator of spirits & demons / yōkai, as you prefer. She is basically a character who ended up being controlled by the spirits she hunted and now they are looking for a stronger body to live in..
As much as I like Shura, if Project Soul doesn't have the capacity to make her use 4 katanas I suggest that I didn't even try to bring her again, to many other weapons that would be better than her.

Has anyone realized the release pattern in season 2 DLC from the data mine?
The hypothetical Season 3 might see a release pattern as Rock, Guest or Li Long, Yun Seong, Aeon.

Yellow = Season 2 Green = Season 3
Stone = Rock

Yell = Hilde
Star = Yun Seong
Snow = Setsuka
Reptile = Aeon
Yellow = Hwang

I also think it will be like this.

Main reason was the EVO character placement (aka most popular char)
=> Setsuka for EVO 2020
=> Yun-Seong for EVO 2021

The New Girl might be the second released char to have a girl in the middle of the season

Not sure for Rock/Aeon placement, it might be the opposite, but I will go for Rock first as he seems to be the more popular or maybe juste because that pattern look like they inverted Season 2/3

The Season 3 will be amazing with Rock, Yun-Seong, Aeon/Lizardman and a new female character! I'm curious to see when Hwang will be released to end the Season 2! November? Or this month during Tokyo Game Show!? 24th-27th September. (big surprise)

I really want to know Aeon story and his transformation. Also Rock being abduct to make Astaroth, this game will be really a gem for the story

As for the dates, even if I want to see Hwang, I would prefer they take the maximum time to make completly different than Yun or anything else and still have time to work on S3 new mechanics, if they add news, so I'am going for 4th December

If they go for a realistic art style, what face models do you think will work for the characters?

No facial capture, that always brings problems down the line, plus we already have character faces. That realistic image of Sophitia is from Faceapp, that's all Project Soul would have to do to base the looks off.

This isn't my opinion, I'm just proposing a question. Could realism work for Soul Calibur over it's anime aesthetics?

I like the idea, but if they made faces realistic and less anime, then they would have to make bodies realistic and less anime too, and I don’t think that would go over well. And then if the costume design remained so heavily anime inspired, then it would just look like a bunch of cosplayers practicing HEMA.

Here is one face model that can work if they use a realistic art style.:D

Sampei Okuno as Heishiro Mitsurugi

What do you guys think?

If there is a style change that has both realism and the anime-inspired style used in VI, I would like if the faces look like art they are shown in III.

I felt that the promotional art for III had a nice balance and I can see the influence in VI. I hope VII goes for an artsyle that is similar to this, especially if they get a bigger budget.:D

Previous versions of the game has always embraced some anime-aesthetics, so I doubt they'll completely abandon them. The developers take pride in their balancing between grounded realism and anime.

As far as japanese game developers go, are there any comparables for current-gen triple A titles ? My understanding is that they always prioritize console games, so they don't push super high fidelity graphics because of that, compared to PC titles.

Off the top of my head for anime-aesthetics, Nier Automata and Final Fantasy games come to mind.
