Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

This game is begging for a next-gen revamp. But I doubt we'll get it or if we do, it'll only be marginal improvements. Better textures and some background stage NPCs or something could work wonders. Patroklos, Pyrrha, Hilde, Nightmare, and Leixia's stages in SCV were primo.

I used to think that the poor stage selection was down to bad artistic design: and it's certainly true that the original levels are laregely rather uninspired, undetailed, inactive, and just kind of mundane and boring; the only ones that kind of break from this trend are those which are based on classical franchise archetypes.
I'm pretty sure vanilla game levels being generic is intentional. They are supposed to pass as places you can find all over the world map, so it's not too jarring when you travel for thousands of kilometers in story modes, yet keep fighting on the same limited number of arenas. Levels can't look too specific for that purpose.
For sure, but Unreal or no, it's also clear that the optimization of the game itself is truly rather poor: there are plenty of UE4 titles developed for identical hardware that perform much better with far superior visual detail and fidelity.
I have an 7 years-old PC and SC6 runs smoothly on decent settings except for Astral Fissure stage variations (which are story modes only). Looks pretty well optimised from here.

I don't know if that's a more likely explanation than it just being a product of rushed, uninspired design, but it's certainly possible--and of course the two possibilities aren't exactly mutually exclusive. But to whatever extent this was an intentional design choice, it would be just one more in a massive series of poor choices when it comes to this game and prioritizing those awful single player modes, themselves devoid of originality, depth, focus, and immersiveness and heavy on tedium.

Yeah, but 1) PC is the smallest of the three principle platforms of this game in terms of market share, by a significant margin, and 2) when we are talking about optimization, we are not just talking about the framerate and frame drops for play--in that respect, SCVI is an imperfect game but not really that far below the industry standard for 3D fighters made at the end of this generation, though only by virtue of sacrificing asset fidelity (particularly stage elements) on the console versions--but also about resolution, match load times, menu load times, texture pop-ins, menu stutters, selection confirm delays, and all manner of other bugs and issues.

Utilizing even the character select menu on PS4 or XBOX One can be a chore, especially if you are selecting a custom design from the submenu, and you almost never see the characters load on the splash screen but for the last couple of seconds!Or consider CaS itself: even on fairly decent PCs, there's a noticeable-verging-on-pretty-obnoxious wait whenever you make certain types of changes to the model, and its truly terrible on console. The whole game is just loaded with these little moments where you can feel the wheels grinding, so to speak--pretty much throughout every aspect of the experience.

No one thing is exactly intolerable, but my point is that when you consider that the game also doesn't push the limits of what the consoles are capable of in terms of graphical performance, it becomes additional reason to recognize that the game is just not very well tuned when it comes to the hardware it primarily runs on, as a statistical matter. And honestly, there also just bad optimization choices: for example, I'd suffer through even much more lengthy load times if it meant getting some backdrops that didn't make me feel like I'm suffering from degenerative lens disease of some form or another, they are so out-of-focus and blurry. But presumably that's not possible because it also would create frame dips in play which is (reasonably) considered a bigger problem. But notice that Tekken 7 is able to strike a far superior overall quality of these two competing elements: that's the value of a bigger team of coders working at the front end of production to optimize things.

It will be interesting to see whether Namco decides to develop a new version of the game optimized to take advantage of the superior processing and GPUs of the PS5 and XBOX-S/X, rather than just the same build, more or less. I would be surprised to see a truly optimized version for the new hardware, but such a version could, theoretically, remedy most of the issues discussed above. Actually, some of them will be improved merely by the better hardware, but plenty will not.

I suspect it's more to do with UE4 as their engines are known for being resource hogs. Jack of all trades, master of none.

I remember someone said it best that the problem with brand new SC6 stages is that they're all landscapes instead of places. SC7 needs to go back to the old formula of memorable fantastical places. If anything I'm hoping we will get to see new versions of stages from the PS2 games, especially SC3 stages which to me are the best in the series.
I just realised that in SC6, we only have 2 indoor stages.

For comparison:
-SC3 has 8 indoor stages
-SC4 has 6 indoor stages
-SC5 has 8 indoor stages

And those games didn't even have a stage DLC.

@Rusted Blade Games already work on nextgen via BC. Tho yeah a next gen upgrade for sc6 and t7 would be nice, thus far MK11 is the only fighting game that got an official ps5, Xbox serie X upgrade patch. Wonder if other games will follow, if a FG still has a strong community I dunno why devs won't put in a next gen upgrade patch.

I don't know how anyone can be this wrong, but apparently people find ways Kappa.

They just need to move on from the engine/graphics they’ve had since IV.

What I'm about to say is going to piss some people off but it needs to be said that if this happens, expect being back to an anemic character roster, stages and customizations. Soul Calibur is never going to have the luxury of a fat Mortal Kombat development budget, and considering the climatic events that are lined up (SC2, SC3 and SC4 all taking place in the same year), the budget would be better spent on new stuff that can be added on top what we have. It really is a choice between new graphics or more content, and I choose the later because eventually, shiny new graphics lose their luster. SC6 is only the way it is right now because of all the additional stuff added after the retail release and it still feels incomplete, plus I'd rather skip a console generation with a new cast of characters after the events of SC4 in SC7. That way the content can be stripped back as character arcs are complete, can focus on a fresh new story (I have a different one in mind as well as characters than what we got with SC5) and bring back legacy characters bit by bit as non canonical DLC.

My fanfic story idea is to have Natsu on a journey to find Taki who's been missing for quite some time. She has a random encounter with Bangoo, a tall, handsome young man who wants to have fantastical adventures like his adoptive father but has yet to have found it, but after listening to Natsu about her quest, Bangoo and his close friend, an entertaining but cocky, horny young man who will take on anything if it advances his sex quest agenda (comic relief character who gets blown out by women who he thinks will fall for him by rescuing them, along with his hilariously clumsy but ultimately corny charms). On their journey they come across random people as well as some legacy characters, telling them about the story of Soul Edge and Soul Calibur and how the events happening now are very familiar to what happen years ago, which funnily enough Natsu and Bangoo have heard stories about from their predecessors. Eventually they arrive at the source of the calamity, a village in ruin and while Bangoo and the new character fight off a load of malfested, Natsu stumbles across a building with Soul Edge in the middle of the room. She feels this pull towards it, many voices in her head to pick it up, one of them turns out to be Tira, coercing her from behind. Natsu reacts by trying to mentally snap out of it, only to hear another voice, who then leaves the player with a choice, to reject or embrace Soul Edge.

If Natsu refuses, the mystery voice reveals himself as Toki, Taki's former master and picks up Soul Edge to spread the calamity himself. Natsu asks why is she so god damn important to this plot of his, which he explains it has everything to do with her being the perfect vessel as she has a very powerful demon soul sealed inside of her that would make her unstoppable. With Soul Edge, the sealed demon soul and Natsu as the vessel, this trinity would bring more destruction than what was possible with Nightmare, but all of it hindered on her embracing Soul Edge otherwise events would happen like it did with Siegfried. Tira then explains that it was her guiding Natsu's party to this location, either in disguise, or using some pawn to bring her here. As Tira finishes up telling her scheme, Bangoo and the new character join up with Natsu with Toki commenting what a perfect audience this is for his first sacrifice, which he reveals to be Taki who's in their captive with enchanted binds to stop her from escaping. However Taki does break free and the four face Toki and Tira in a climatic battle with a burning village around them. Even with the serious events happening, the new character can't help but chat up Taki saying she looked mighty hot in those binds and wouldn't mind tying her up some time, with her scolding him saying "Tie me up?! Ha, I have boys like you for breakfast". As Toki and Tira are weakened and defeated, Soul Edge then takes Natsu to the Astral Chaos to defeat her, but then Soul Calibur appears who then fights the new final boss being an even more monstrous form of Toki. After Natsu wins, she comes out of the Astral Chaos with everyone there while Toki and Tira nowhere to be seen who have been taken away either in the Astral Chaos or to a new location through a Astral Fissure. While they're all talking about their victory, Natsu asks Taki how in the hell did she manage to break free of her binds and more importantly, how did she get captured with her replying "I allowed myself to get captured. As for the binds, Toki is my old master so his techniques are not so dissimilar to mine". Natsu responds saying "You know you're plan could have failed, you might not have broke free of the binds, or worse I embraced Soul Edge" with Taki replying "I wouldn't have put myself in so much danger if I wasn't confident in you or my abilities", thus giving Natsu a passing of the torch from Taki. At the end while Natsu and Bangoo are flirting with one another like young people do, Taki then goes over to the new character and says "You, come with me boy!" with him replying "Wait, WHAT!" with Taki replying "Didn't anyone tell you it's rude to keep a lady waiting!". with him going like a completely pussycat "Yes Ma'am", thus making all the horny Calibur players imagine just how extensive Taki femdom kink is.

If Natsu embraces Soul Edge (the non canon chapter), she then takes on a monstrous form with the powers from Soul Edge and of the sealed demon inside of her. Toki then reveals Taki who's in enchanted binds and offers her as the first Sacrifice for the Demonic Natsu. Bangoo and the new character arrive, Taki breaks free of the binds and they fight the Demonic Natsu (who you play) in a burning building. All of them try to snap Natsu out of this blood crazed state, but it's no good because Natsu embraced Soul Edge meaning she's willing to sacrifice them. With the new character and Bangoo dead, she fatally wounds Taki with her last words being that she wish she was there for her more as she was like a daughter to her that she never had. With the heroes dead, Toki comments on them bringing a new age of calamity, only for the Demonic Natsu to kill Toki for his Soul. Tira, aware of the blood thirsty nature of a Soul Edge wielder, hides at a distance laughing like a maniac of achieving the goal of providing the perfect vessel for Soul Edge to unleash chaos around the world.

Never say never bruh

Hey I switched to steam today from the ps4. I was interested in having access to mods from the community and eventually creating my own. I wanted to have more creativity when customizing the characters to give them unique looks and more accurate depictions. When I been looking around at the equipment mods allot of them are replacing an existing piece with the modded piece. Is there still no way to add equipment into the code because of the spaghetti?

Try soul calibur vodka. It does what you’re describing.

Okay, I’ve seen some ridiculous jank in this game before but THIS was ridiculous as shown in this clip. Fix your game, Bamco.
I think Yoshi's 4B+K is the murderer here.
