Patroklos Q&A/Discussion Thread

Run up, block is usually a good method of getting close to the opponent. Might not feel like you've done anything but up close Patrick is deadly.

Learn to utilize running mixups. One of the first things people learn in Soul Calibur is to duck when an opponent runs at them, in anticipation of a slidekick. Later they learn that smarter opponents will run up and do a damaging mid (like 66B) and nail them for ducking, so they stand. That's when you do the slidekick.
Your run-up mixup consists of:
66B if they duck.
66A or a throw if they try stepping.
Slide kick, throw, or 1K/11K if they stand guard.
Block if they panic and mash out a poke like BB, giving you frame advantage to mess with them at close range.

Also, the running slide kick combos into 236K for 53 damage.

I've noticed it's not necessary to do that. 66[A]~B+K will net the same result for example. The game's not picky at all about when that first button's pressed as long as it's still down when the others follow.

the slide i think is one key to it. Though I tried it, I still can't get it to work. I also think it's on a special condition like a counter hit or stun or something ridiculous for us mortals to do. THe CPU is the cheapest player one can face. It does these things on a whim. I get rocked by it sooo often. I can't believe no one else has seen it. I really want to know how it's done.

i figured out the whole Brave Edge Knee attack mystery. The CPU has a created effect on the Quick Battle A1 Patroklos, so when he does the knee attack, the effect looks like a Brave Edge, but its not.

On another subject, this happened in the same match against an advanced Astaroth. I understand that at such a high speed the CPU will be cheap when granting a Critical Edge, but up until now it's been guaranteed when my opponent was launched. This time, while in the air Astaroth just fell threw it and it whiffed. Even worse than that, on another attempt, I actually get the Critical Edge, the animation is actually playing [try to picture this] and all of a sudden Astaroth's spaghetti ball attack cuts right into my animation and I get hit with his attack. Now if that's not cheap, i don't know what is.

BTW, how do you stop Astaroth's Spaghetti Ball attack?

He means 66K BE.

It's possible to step the second hit of it, or just guard it. Personally I prefer JG since it's easier and still nets a 66B punish.

so the JG will stop it? How do you do the JG? I already beat him, but it will be good to know in the future. It's a pain fighting him, like I'm handicap giving him this guaranteed hit, and its not like its a small one. I beat him regardless -so kudos to me.

Just tap and release G quickly when the second hit of the bullrush is about to connect.

236K, 1K. 3B catches right rolls sometimes (your left).

Make sure you're in deep if you go for 236K, you don't wanna whiff it.

1B to CE, you mean?

1B leaves you at a reset (+0) and CE is i13 with some invincibility frames on the flash. CE is -20 and only really "safe" to throw out when at max range against some characters.

i13 beats a lot of stuff but you still have to be careful where you place it. I get smacked out of random CE more times than I care for.

Xiba did 6A, which is i17, so you beat him clean. Really, Xiba does not have an interrupt to stop you from doing this unlike other characters that can probably CH you out of this (I would have to check). Maybe 4A?

regardless, this worked because Jaxel hadn't been trained to block after 1B. It's a relatively risky thing to do.

Xiba's 3A and 2A are i13, aren't they?
Invincibility frames.

Like I said, I would have to check to be sure. Sometimes CE blows right through disadvantage, sometimes it gets interrupted, sometimes it clashes.

I wince every time someone says the word "priority" because it doesn't seem to exist in this game.

Like Drake said if your 1k doesn't hit your too far away. Seriously Pats 1k is what opens up his whole arsenal. 1k should have about the same range as Mitsubishi 2k if not more.

When you sidestep with Pat, what do you do? 22_88AA and 22_88B both don't seem to good. The former is two highs and the latter whiffs randomly so what to do?

I feel this is a very valid question. He is a lot stronger than people give him credit for. I actually edited the post on why I feel he's so strong, but you have played him much longer than I have. I'm primarily a Cervantes player since 2004. What is this character lacking? Why aren't top players using this char more? Any and all opinions are welcome, me and my sparing partners are very curious about this
