Soul Calibur V Assets from San Diego Comic-Con!

In preparation for the upcoming Namco Fighting Games Panel at the San Diego Comic Con (the countdown on the front of 8WR is currently counting down till the panel); Namco has released some new assets and character artwork which confirm Ivy, as well as a stage without ringouts.

The most stunning of all this is that the male character silhouette that Daishi leaked to us last week is not Raphael, which I'm sure most of us assumed, but is instead a new character named "Zwei" (German for "two"). He also appears to be holding his sword in a "tonfa-like" fashion.

I like the open field stage. Hope that it will actully be open and without walls or fall pits.
I agree. It would've been very nice with Hilde's style..
I personally thing ringouts are a downside to games. There are too many people that rely mainly on ringouts to win.

I'm sure that it could never be the person getting rung-out's fault that they have terrible defense or don't know how to play. Just easier to complain about the problem.

You know the net in basketball is too high, shorten it for me so I can reach it easier.

i'm a Hilde mainer actully and i'm never doom comboing to win (except when i wanna fuck with someone online ;) )

I was thinking that having a very open stage without walls or pits would be something pretty sweet and optional actully. It's kinda like Super smash bros. You go with the Final Destination or Battlefield stages because sometimes you don't wanna bother with the stage traps, transformations, etc.

I like playing with Hilde, and I don't like how she always rings out.. I always finish the combo, though.. :x
 
Zwei looks cool in the art, he looks like the bad guy from an old anime (Saint Seiya or Hokuto no ken).

However the cg model is awful. In fact...I don't know why but all the 3d models look fucking ungly and deformed. Ivy and Natsu doesn't look cute at all and their bodies are weird
Wait................. Wasn't Raoh already the final boss of SC4? If not then I am totally confused. He was the best guest character in the series.

Anyway I actually like Natsu's cg model. Don't get me wrong I completely understand why someone would hate her design but I admit it is growing on me.

Ivy's and Natsu's 3D model look fine, but Zwei's 3D is NOTHING like his artwork. Ivy's face is very different in the artwork, but she looks like she does in all the other games on the 3D, so it's 'kay. I like Zatsu's model better than her artwork, though. I didn't like hers.
 
I like the "infinity" stage. I think it was about time SC got a completely different stage, because almost all the stages were the same in past SC games.

By that logic, Asta and Rock have the exact same Critical Finish, are you saying they are exact clones?

if you wanna get real, rock has been reduced to an astaroth copy since SC1. It's kind of the namco way.

And yes I'm sure that they play very differently, bla bla bla.

Stop perpetuating ignorance,I know your smarter than that. When people make baseless statements based on nothing, and then shrug off the mountains of evidence to the contrary, that is willful ignorance. What your saying here is how they play is essentially not relevant to the discussion of if they are "clones".

You play Hilde and are complaining about ring-outs. I've never seen a bigger case of "pot calling the kettle black" in my entire life. There is a reason she is banned from competitive play.

I'm quite surprised that Ivy is included in SC5, not that she shouldn't be, but I would have thought the time skip would have left her behind. My guess would have been that they'd replace her with a new character that had a similar style. Makes me wonder if Cervantes will be around...
 
Sometimes I wish Namco would just make Soul Calibur into a stylized anime 3D game based on the concept art. The models haven't translated very well for the last two games and with all the flashiness, anime designs, and lack of blood, it would actually look good thematically.

Yes you're right, that's exactly what I'm saying. The point in my saying it is to communicate across the barrier what both sides of this are getting at.

My theory is that if you say something along the lines of 'this is why it seems like that, and yes there's a point, but its irrelevant to their gameplay being different', people might work through the whole 'they're clones, how can you even deny it?!' thing.

Also, I'd totally cop to the 'well, actually...' habit, that annoying nerdy tendency to 'precision'. Because they are clones :p
